Can someone explain to me how people's games (could) have been compromised?

Oieee vay. I'm in the same situation as most. Had to make a new account so I could throw in my 2 coins. My account isn't working, Never got the warning email and my change password attempts have gone with no reply to change the passwords. *sigh* Seriously I am getting tired of hackers and what they've been doing recently.
Wish it was illegal to do such things.

I am glad I found this thread - my password for my account is not working since today and with the password forgotten button I still have no new mail received.
I was really worried that my account may be hacked but now I hope that Bioware changed the password.
The thing is that I did not receive this mail from Bioware and I never had a different forum account - this is the first and my only one.

Ya same here, the only reason I can still post with this account is the fact its using an old cookie set to last indefinitely. I mean when I had seen that this occurred I changed my password right away even though at the time I didn't get an email. Only now did I get an email about this which has locked my account basically even with the proactive measure I had taken.
P.S. I wonder if this is just NWN related or if any CD keys on that forum are at risk such as ME?

I'm still waiting for the password reset e-mail, too.
Presumably, cookies are keeping me signed in.
That probably won't be for long, given this site's frequent tendency to kick users off at random.

It seems as I would have to wait until it is 7am in Edmonton to call the customer service - as non native english speaker I hope they will understand me and I will understand them...

Same problem as most everyone else: the first link in the e-mail had already expired, the link to send my password information hasn't done anything, I'm still logged in over here but I can't get in on ea.com, etc. Fabulous.

What is going to happen with our CD keys then? Will we get new ones?
I had all my old bioware games stored on the old site and Bio's newest games are listed here ME/DA series +dlc. This is bad.

I just got the email - it seems like a phishing email to me. Click on the link and change your password! Dodgy!

Just an FYI to the devs. It's been 8 days since the hack was detected and I just received the email to reset my password today. That's 8 days too late that someone could've tampered with my account.
Fortunately, even though I didn't get an email until today, I changed my password just in case beforehand. The issue is that you reset my already changed/new password and I had to change it again.

Same problem here. I don't receive the mail from EA with the password information. and so I can't login on BW social network and EA anymore.

Finally got the Aaryn Flynn email, still missing the two reset password emails.
Anyway, clicked the link in the email, entered my new password and got a shock:
The new password is too long. Your new password contains invalid characters. The confirm new password is too long. Your confirm new password contains invalid characters.
Seriously. Seriously?! EFFIN SERIOUSLY?!?!
Your systems have just been hacked, potentially sensitive user data has been stolen, you urge your users to take security seriously and even force them to change their passwords... then tell them that their 20-character long password containing just a mix of upper and lower-case letters and a few punctuations is too long and contains invalid characters? Are you kidding me? Should I just use 123456789 as my password?
Unbelievable...
Words can not express how pissed of I am right now.

Whoa folks!
Few things getting missed.
One, I think they are doing this since a lot of folks might or did have the same user name and pw at the old NWN site as well as the new fangled EA-Bioware social site here. They pretty much said "in an abundance of caution" so I think this was just a safe thing they wanted to do. I do not think the compromise, as far as they are telling us now, at the NWN site breached this site's info. or EA's site's info. directly.
Two, yeah, the email might look fishy, but if you look at the header and the address the link goes to, it can be clearly seen as legit. Also, the email does NOT ask for any info. to identify you nor does the page that the link goes to. The link uses a user name / email specific token they assigned to your account so only the person receiving the email should be using that account. All they ask for at the link is a new password, nothing else, so they are not potentially phishing anything (if it was a fake email).
Three, this new EA email I believe is separate from the 18K NWN email form some days back. Ahain, this EA email pw reset is precautionary for folks using the same UN and PW here and at nwn.bioware.com.
Just my perspective to hopefully head off any more freaking out.

Except I didn't use the same username or password on the old Bioware forums. Not even remotely. Nor did my boyfriend, who has also gotten this email, at the email addy of his EA account, not his Legacy one. (Which like mine, was different.)

Well I'm glad I was able to get back into my account apparently I was having logging problems. Im glad EA told me about this, they really do care about me as a loyal customer. I guess it goes to show ya no matter how strong something is theirs always a weakness. And hope these low life's have it coming, seriously evil.

I can no longer log into my bioware account despite the password being correct - also if I click to get my password reset I receive no mail. Guess I got hacked

Just received the two password reset emails... which are by now expired/invalid. Probably because I already tried resetting the password from the Aaryn Flynn email.
So, now I get to wait for another two hours to find out what other passwords the EA servers are going to declare too long or too complex.
Thumbs up EA, you actually make Sony look good <_<

So I get an email today! Eight days after the breach is announced, which is puzzling to me as I never used the old Bioware forums.
Edit; I did sign up so I could download BDtS for ME1.
