What if.. the hackers are still in control and -wanted- all of us to change our password? *stirs up conspiracy theories* They have the older password which may or may not be used with other things, example: EA/Bioware pass is the same as - 'World of Warcraft', Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Banking, etc. Meaning no offense, some people are either doubtful/ignorant and/or lazy when it comes to passwords/safety and if 'Bioware' here who says everything is alright a week later via email, then ask us to reset our passwords.. what if they' (the hackers) are still in control and phishing for another well-used password from gullible users?

Edit: By the way, I love Bioware and EA. I just know how easy it is to get or "phish" for information; it's surprising how many people associate their birthday and/or names (pet names, family, their name) with their passwords.

Sucks that I'm just now finding out about it. Not as bad as Sony's month long silence, but still I would've expected a mandatory PW reset the moment they learned of the hack.

Ok, so... I made an old legacy account, there I've learned I needed to make a BSN account and link it to EA account. My question is: what's the connection between new and old accounts? I don't remember linking them in any way.
That being said, I had different passwords for both accounts. Does this mean that both were compromised?

IF it is only the legacy account that's been hacked,  why reset EA account passwords? Just for security(better safe than sorry?)?

I think, because they initially allowed you to create a BSN account from your old BioWare account (which then would go on to create a basic EA account), they're just disabling it because the possibility exists that your login email and password are the same as your old BioWare community account. I guess the breach must be more substantial than they initially thought, however, because I didn't get a notice from the prior updates but got one this morning.

Hopefully Chris or Aaryn can state, unequivocally, that there's no evidence the EA account information was compromised (it's simply reset because the possibility exists that your EA account information is the same as your old BioWare information, because of the likelihood that people here only have an EA account because they're BioWare customers).

I hope this is the case here. I didn't recieve any email before today(and we all knew about the attack eight days ago), which suggests that either my account wasn't breached and reset for security reasons OR that the EA mail-sender was really busy. Anyway, an answer from somebody with knowledge would be really great.

I never got an email AND i couln't log in so yeah I think my account got hacked :crying:

Then began to panic and in this paniced state I was wondering around the forums trying to salvage my account.. but eventually I noticed the 'Forgot Password?' button and was like Fyeeewww!

But it didnt work...

so i waited and waited... And now its all gooooood ! :D

So the moral of that story is to not panic if you can't log in to your account, just stay calm and go change your password then wait around 2minutes until trying to log in otherwise you'll be like Errr WTF?! when it still says your password is wrong :P

[Removed text for security: See below.]

There is an issue with changing account email addresses. I've already emailed ea.com to give them a heads up about the issue.

Amusingly enough, even though my EA account password was invalidated, I wasn't logged out of the BSN (so I could come here and post on the forums, stilled auto-logged in with the old info).

For reals, the "new" BioWare can't run web services to save their lives. DLC authentication, no longer being able to auto-login to any of their PC games (even though manual logins always work)... they're just plain suck. They need to ditch the EA Cali web crew and bring back Dups.

I couldn't login to the ea site @ electronicarts.se today and wondered why, NOW I KNOW, however...

I went here to Bioware forums, and clicked change password in my profile and was sent to ea.com and COULD login on that site and change the old password to a new one without getting a mail to change password, HOWEVER can still NOT login to ea site @ electronicarts.se.

STRANGE!!

I wonder why I received an email today when I've never even owned NWN or was apart of any forum for them. Why today and not when it happened. Luckily I was able to log into both EA and my Bioware account and change the passwords.

I just spoke with an EA support-person on the live chat and asked if this email meant my account was breached. Apparently, according to what the rep said, it wasn't.

-Let me inform you that the email which you have got is only for reset password.
*So my account's safe?
-Yes It is safe

Well, I hope it's true.

Was there a secondary breach? How is this different from a week ago? Some news media are reporting this as if it is new. If there was no secondary breach why wasn't the password reset policy set in place 1-2 days after the initial breach?

As a security precaution the latest email went out to all BioWare account holders regardless of game ownership. If there was an EA account attached to your BioWare account EA has reset the passwords for those accounts. If you are having any problems with your account or password please call EA Support as they are there to help: 1-877-357-6007.

We really appreciate your support and are focused on having everything remediated as soon as possible.

Just got the email, and thereby had to change not only passwords for bioware but a host of other items, due to bothering to create different entertainment passwords for different areas. I appreciate the warning.
As a word of advice you will be able to partially prevent this in the future if you simple operate on a username = email system, and when someone logs in they get sent an email to confirm actual login.
Time consuming and not customer friendly, but much more secure from a company prespective as the email provider is the security.

Thank you for making this clear:) I'm really happy to hear that.

@up Or make a system like Steam Guard, which allows you to login on authorized computers only.

welp, I have no clue if I got the email because the email I use for my PS3 and the BSN is the same one I have all my junk email sent to (facebook and such).

Is there a title of the email I can type in to the mail search bar?

Couldn't login myself, and was using an outdated email address for an email account I can't access anymore(needed to update that, didn't get around to it).

Called customer support, comfirmed it was my account with a cd key, and got everything fixed quite quickly. Anyone that can't access their account yet, call in and don't give up hope!

Edit:

Thanks for letting us know this and doing something about it, too.

My email came to my spam so I deleted it without reading it. Then for some reason I looked at
Google News and it said EA Bio ware neverwinter nights server was hacked
I play 3 games and none of my passwords worked so had to redo all that.
When I phoned EA games first to see what they knew, I didnt get much help as they didnt know.
really what if anything was taken re personal info. and just kept saying dont open any odd emails.
I then phoned Bioware in Edmonton and got a answer but vague.
It appears if Im unlucky I could get lots of spam and telemarketers as they MAY know my address
and birthday and phone number. I again say MAY

Im sure mine was compramised as I said above I had to get all new passwords. bah.

I cancelled my online CC and am getting a new one as I dont know if it was compriAised or not
but I only use a CC with a very small limit for the web and I can wait the 4 days for the new one. Im the overcautious type.
