I've got nothing to worry about. My old NWN account and the account I'm now using are completely different. The old account was made before EA account merging was needed and I've since forgotten that old password and the email it was attached to is no longer valid.

Got the email but the link had expired. Requested a password reset, but 6 hours on and it still hasn't shown up.

Hey everyone, just wanted to clear up a few things that I've seen.

The system that was hacked was our legacy servers. Social is hosted at a different location and was not comprised in this attack. Your passwords were reset as a precaution.

If you are not getting your password reset email right away there might be a delay in getting the email due to the volume of requests, I had to wait about an hour last night when mine was reset.

When Social was first launched all new accounts were created on both it and our legacy forums. This was done to prevent people from registering with display names already in use on our legacy site. We turned that off eventually but for those of you who remember creating only a Social account that is why your password was reset last night.

We really appreciate the feedback you have been giving us.

I couldnt help but notice that Aaryn's email went out without a mechanism to reply. Nice customer service there guys... Here is the text of the email that I tried to send in response:

Aaryn;

As someone with a passing familiarity with IT systems and security, I am surprised at your approach.

In my opinion, the only reason you are retaining my confidential data is for the sake of your marketing department. There is simply no other valid reason for you to retain such data. And even if there was, there is simply no excuse for not retaining *all* such data in an encrypted format.

There is no need for you to know and or retain such information to register products (even with a modicum of immagination I can think of half a dozen other strategies other than tying registration to forum names, email addresses and other personal information).

Further, nothing in your email indicates that you are providing any real protection for personal information now. That data is (apparently) still in place. Presumably you have closed the hole that allowed outsiders to access this information, but is this the only hole? Personally, I would like some reassurance that you have deleted my data not only from your servers, but from any other online or nearline storage until such time as you can build a system that doesnt store this data in an unencrypted format, and doesnt retain this data for long than is necessary to register a game (a few hours?).

That you retain it longer speaks to the willingness of EA and BioWare to put your economic interests ahead of my legal privacy protections.

Honestly, I think you should delete all compromised accounts, and I would certainly appreciate it if you would delete my account and inform me that my personal information no longer resides anywhere at EA or BioWare.

Regards

Quick question. I never played NWN, but had registered my Mass Effect 2 game on the social site. I also play other EA titles(Battlefield, Madden, etc.). I got the change password email, and everything was fine.

I looked at my Social Site account just now, and I have Dragon Age II DLC for free? I never played, or touched the Dragon Age series? Is this normal, or what happened?

Yeah. All my Mass Effect 2 stuff is there and fine, so I guess nothing to worry about. The email from EA raised a few eyebrows as I got it in the wee hours of the Morning. Still, better safe than sorry.

This is not good news folks. I called in when I got the email and Dana (who I spoke with) kept telling me my account "MAY" have been compromised. Then told me I should follow the link and change my password so my account isn't compromised???? Well, which is it???? Was this a massive media EA bull**** to move everyone over from one EA service to another. Are we goling to get spammed with gammer emails now?

Well I ran through the password changer, an email was sent to me, I and waited and waited, checked spam and nothing, did it again. Finally I changed my password and was sent to this this goofy EA profile page that looked like it was made for us to list our games to make their marketing easier for them. Absolutely no link to Bioware or to Bioware Social.

I do not like this "MAY" have been compromised bull****. Whoever these EA people are, they're absolutely sick, and if Atari brought them on board to outsource BioWare they made a big mistake.

Oh, and I did lose one account I had for forums use, I had two, this one and Lasatta. My Lasatta account is gone, kapoot.  Does this mean for sure my CD Keys have been compromised because I can't change my password???? Will they tell me? Will they do anything for me?

I'm ready for a class action, anyone else? I WANT ANSWERS.

[Oh and while I'm at it, I'm sick of this new "join date" they gave me when they transferred my account from NWN Vault Bioware to EA Bioware Social.  My join date is August 2003!  Whaps Atari again!]

OK so when I played NWN EA never had their mitts on it, so my account details for NWN are different than for EA master login /Bioware Dragon Age, the only thing they shared was my email address. I have changed my EA master account password but do I need to log into my old NWN account to change the password there also?

Well when I bought Dragon Age and went to register it I had the option of logging in with my EA account (which has a ton of other games associated with it) and I did so because it meant I didn't have to go hunting around for my NWN log in (which I haven't used in so long).  From what I can gather EA reset passwords to all Bioware accounts connected to them as a precaution, however the information as to what is going on with our NWN accounts (not linked to EA) is a bit sketchy.  Going back to my old NWN links I either arrive at the Atari website (which has yet another log in for me) or to the Bioware website with no mention of NWN (which I imagine is because they have taken it offline for the moment) so I'm unsure of what security precautions I may need to take.  It is a little unsettling only finding out about this more than a week after the fact.

When the news broke out, I immediately changed my password. That was a week ago. And now I got the email and password reset. Why did it take a week to reset the passwords? Not good.

This is my interpretation from the official posts:

There were two waves of password resets. The first wave occured 9 days ago when the hackers breached the legacy server. All breached accounts were closed, and EA accounts linked to those breached accounts had their passwords reset. People with affected accounts would have received an e-mail at this time.

Yesterday, a second wave of password resets were sent out to all EA account users with a request to change their password AS A PRECAUTION. People who received an e-mail yesterday or today did NOT have their accounts breached; Bioware/EA is simply playing it safe.

I think the hackers may have gotten ahold of my account... I couldn't log into the Cerberus network and none of my logins for my bioware account was working.

It said pw doesn't match the email... I did manage to change my PW though I'm not sure how muchof my information was compromised though...

EDIT - I did recieve an email but didn't check my email until today.

I don't think it necesary the case, ALOT of people have been getting that email/password not matching our database message, like I've said many times, I can NOT login to www.electronicarts.se with my EA-account (I get the email/password message not matching anything in database), BUT I CAN login to www.ea.com AND social.bioware.com with the EXACT same EA-account, AND I can change password at www.EA.com (and changing the password there, it change the password here at bioware also).
