Adult Content, C'mon The Witcher 2 Did It

I would prefer that if BioWare wants to do love scenes that they remember the basics: People get naked to make love, and women have breasts with nipples. I think BioWare are doing themselves a massive disservice by marketing the fact that they have love scenes as it attracts unwanted attention from radicals. Have them in the game, have them be contextual, tasteful and clearly labeled so nobody can click the triggering option without knowing what they're getting into.
If they did this, it would go a long way towards re-establishing their reputation as a studio that actually deals in content for adults, not just games that are M-Rated because of gore and/or skimpy outfits.

While I don't like the idea of Mass Effect 3 going in the same route, the Witcher bashing is exaggerated. To add to that, it has a more mature setting than any Bioware game, pixelated sex notwithstanding.
I think though, that Mass Effect 1 handled the romantic scenes pretty well and I would like Bioware to use that as base for Mass Effect 3.

I know there should be a romance scene that is true. But something as meaningful as Mass Effect 2 and as good as Mass Effect would do me just fine. As long as they show Tali's face I'm good.

Plenty of R rated movies get by and are respected just fine with just violence and/or cursing. "Mature" doesn't mean you have to push the boundaries of the rating.

The most mature moment in the Witcher 2 had nothing to do with sex or even, funnily enough, Geralt. It was the confrontation between Philippa Eilhart and the prince.
I agree - that was one of the few moments where I went: "Ok, that would NEVER make it into an American-made game". It was an incredibly powerful moment, but it was in the proper context. And the way the devs played with Eilhart's state after it was quite good. Pardon the sidetrack.

Nevertheless the game industry has grown a lot in regards to mature content in games. Remember all the fuss that the media made out of the modest "adult" scenes in ME1? Compare those to Dragon Age, and The Witcher and we've come a very long way in a short time.

Oh good lord, I'll be perfectly happy if BioWare never does anything like that in their games. That turned my stomach.
Actually, there was a lot in Chapter 3 of The Witcher 2 that was difficult to watch. There were too many of the magic-wielding women who end up brutalized or killed in gruesome ways. The phrase "witch hunt" takes on a whole new meaning. As amazing as the game was, I had to put it down after I finished it, and don't think I'll go back to it for a while, as much as I want to see all the other story branches.
The thing about The Witcher is that its world is extremely dark and dirty and medieval. BioWare's universes, even Thedas, don't really approach that level; they're more idealized. And frankly, I'm perfectly happy with that. You can only take so much of the Witcher's world at a time.
However, going back to the main topic, the love scene in Mass Effect is light years beyond what we got in Mass Effect 2, or frankly, even Dragon Age Origins (and DA2's hardly even deserve a mention). If we get the tasteful and mature level of treatment in Mass Effect 3 that we saw in the first Mass Effect, I'll be extremely happy.

Not necessarily like the Witcher but just more realistic, the ME1 scenes were fine, I really don't know why bioware changed them, plus DA:O for all it's glory had the worst, so please just make them all like the ME1 scenes from now on.
Bioware changed them because nipples are bad, unless they're on men. If you like, or even just don't mind, seeing a woman's nipples, than you are a degenerate-amoral-godless-liberal-terrorist-communist who hates America, Jesus, Freedom, and families.

The mature content is hidden somewhere else in Witcher...it's in the moraly grey choices and dialogue...

For me it's more important that the scene conveys emotions than being explicit naked. Stay classy bioware. After youtubing Witcher 2 I am realise how much more I like the bioware ones. DA2 had really good ones, I like the ones in ME2. ME was a little sad because it was only a nude female seen from the side, paint that one blue for Liara and it was Liara. As long as it isn't only the females who lose a few clothes then it's ok.
That's why I liked the scene with Caterina Sforza and Ezio in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. That scene in general was well done, and having the man be totally nude while the woman gets to keep some clothes on was interesting and different.

Because video-games are still relatively new and unknown form of entertainment by a big part of mainstream public. Perfect scapegoat and subject to use for sensational headlines since people won't verify it as they would do with a movie.Sarcastic Tasha wrote...
ME1 was fine, the fuss about it was completely idiotic. TV has loads of nudity and no-one complains, so why is a bit of blue arse on a video game so bad?

Some of the sex in A Song of Ice and Fire, The Steel Remains, Best Served Cold, Kurshiel's Dart, and the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms is vulgar but I thought it was all well done. Even romance novels don't demand that sex be soft, gentle lovemaking under candlelight.

The only point where I was furious about lack of partial nudity was Garrus'es scene. I was so interested to find out what turian chest looks like. But I think it's more a question of my obsession with biology than lust.
I always just thought that was because Bioware's developers got to that scene and thought "Crap. What the hell does a turian torso look like?"

It's called "suggested" or "implied" nudity. Through clever use of camera angles, blankets, and various other objects that can block the player's view, the characters are naked and having sex, but you can't see their naughty bits. TV and movies have been doing this for a long time, so there's no reason a video game can't give it a try. We get the pixelated sex we all so crave without having to endure over-censored fade-to-black or fully-clothed sex scenes, while Bioware avoids having to endure the outrage from people and "news" organizations that have nothing better to do with their time than complain about things that in no way affect them.
