I've recently completed BG for the first time and imported my character into BG2, and for some reason he has lower hit points than if I created the same character from scratch in BG2. Also, NPC companions seem to have the same low HP problem.
My fighter was level 6 by the end of BG1, with 18 con and I made a point of maximising hit points at level up, so 6 x 14 = 84. I noticed that my character has been leveled to 7, aswell, so I should have 84 HP + some for level 7. For some reason my HP is 75.
Similar problem with Minsc. I think he has 15 con default. In BG1 i used the tome of constitution on him, so he had 16 in BG 2 (Which increased his HP retroactively). I did the same maximising of HP with him, so by the end of BG1 he had 72 HP. So he should have 72 + some for level 7. He has 69 HP in BG2.
I can't remember what Jaheira or Imoen had, but I'm fairly sure it was the same. Can someone explain this to me? It's not like it's going to utterly ruin my game or anything (I could see it as an extra challenge), but it's confusing me.
Thanks

The NPC's in SoA are not imported from Baldurs Gate I. They're new with new stats. Unless you're using Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT) there's little point in giving tomes to NPC's. BGT imports some NPC's from BGI to SoA (Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Viconia, Edwin) including any stats you improved through tomes.
So, if you raised Imoen's dexterity from 18 to 19 in BG 1, she will revert back to 18 in SoA. If you use BGT, she'll still have 19. Same for any changes to the NPC class you made. If you keep her as a Thief in BG1, she'll still be a thief in SoA.
As for the low HP of your PC: the game doesn't always handle the hitpoints correctly on importing a character. I'd advise you to use Shadowkeeper http://www.mud-maste...m/shadowkeeper/ to reset your PC's hitpoints.

I read that. It didn't help.
Thanks for the reply, Flamedance. I thought it might have imported npc stats as I remember Minsc having 15 con in BG1, I used the con. tome on him and he still had 16 con in BG2. So, really, he had it raised in SoA anyway
I came across this thread on google.
According to someone in there, the average HP is used, rather than the max. I guess that would make sense, as it is sort of cheating to have max hp in BG1. Still kind of unfair to imports
Curiously, raising the difficulty before you start increases your HP.
At novice and normal (18 con, fighter) i get 75.
At Core, hard & Insane i get 88.
I guess I'll turn up the difficulty, then turn it down again...

I had a similar problem too, when importing a fighter with 19con from BG1. He should normally have 120hp (15x8), yet started BG2 with only 80odd hp. But this doesn't seem consistent, because I have had other PCs imported in with max hp. Funny.

Hit points in the BG2 engine have always been bugged.
To get the correct amount;
1) make your character as normal until the end then cancel and redo it... the second one should be correct.
2) shadow keeper it.
