Because most PC owners are too smart tto buy a couple of hundred dollar gimmick just for voice control, when they already have a headset and access to free software called Shoot.

most excellent, but how will this work with skills thate are not mapped to a key?

And for the people that don't have the req vocie rec engine version?

I'll have to get back to you on that. Only just recently found out about it myself and still playign around with profile settings to get it working fully under ME2.
At the moment I only really use it for Unity, as every other skill I need is hotkeyed and Im used to hitting the button already.

Im not going out my way to get Kinect. Although it looks like an awesome gimmick for a play through or two!

Although if Bioware and Microsoft could arrange a Kinect/ME3 bundle pack for release I would be very tempted to buy the two together

I'm going to tinker with it when ME3 comes out - IF Australians are supported on the voice side of things.

We use kinect for browsing and watching movies and its great. As a control device OUTSIDE of thegames, it works. I think there is some merit to it as a voice controller for games (ordering commands and the like - Especially in ME when beyond the first level of ME2 and some underground bases in ME1 I never really used the move command.)

But it still begs the bigger question, will it work with voice OUTSIDE of Kinect - such as a headset and speech software. At least, without needing a poorly responsive macro or something.

Yahtzee...

As for the voice control thing they're trying for Mass Effect 3, no. Just no. Voice control has been tried before and the problem with it is nothing to do with how well the game recognizes your words - it's that pressing a button (call me a buttonphile, I suppose, it's something I must have picked up as a child from going to science museums) is still less effort than voicing a command. And is less likely to make your housemates think that you're a wally.

The Kinect voice implementation doesn't work everywhere outside of the USA either(it certainly won't let Region 4 use their voices with it), so even if you have the XBOX version the Kinect thingie might not even work for everyone.

I love how you guys keep saying no when this gimmick doesn't even in the slightest affect the game or the gameplay....

Not that I'm comparing Kinect to the revolution that was polygons - but when 3d graphics accelerators first came out and games began ditching sprites - the uproar was enormous. Many, many, tens of the dozens of people on the internet proclaimed sprites would never take off - and they were ruining games (Oddly enough, the argument could be made that maybe they have *taps nose*) and screamed and twisted till their keyboards were mashed into their desks.

People don't like change - deep down - everyone is a grumpy 60 year old man who thinks things were better when he was younger - of course, he also turns around and then in the same sentence proclaims things were harder and there was more disease and no-one looked after each other. But I digress, the point is, people don't like things that are different to what they know.

the SDK was officialy released.
http://research.micr...ects/kinectsdk/
is there now ANY reason not to support voice commands for PC? Even Microsoft will approve of that.

The Kinect implementation as it stands for ME3 right now is kind of...unimpressive. I mean, I guess it's alright, but look at the potential with Mass Effect! They use haptic interfaces combined with holograms to control all their computers and electronics...motion controls would be completely awesome for navigating the galaxy map, or rotating and scanning planets...Bioware cannot have missed this potential, and I hope they're working on more. And I say this as a PC player who doesn't even own ME2 on Xbox and has no intention of buying a Kinect.

Err, whoops. That last line isn't meant to incite a platform war, I meant it to underscore my enthusiasm for how cool Kinect implementation could be.

Actually, one of the EA guys did mention Kinect use of the Galaxy Map as something that "maybe" hasn't been revealed yet.

With 9 months till release, I'll take that as a nigh confirmation that its one of the things they're pushing to make functional.
