When i first played DA2 I hated fenris. I freed him from slavery and in return he tries to kill me.
However lately, maybe due to the fanfiction or trying out a fenris romance, but the guy has grown on me. He's now my second favorite love intrest after Isabela.
Which character has grown on you as time went by?

Isabella really grew on me. The first play through, I didn't use her enough and she permanently ditched me at the end of Act II.
My next time through, I made sure to group up with her, and she totally grew on me---she was fun, non-judgmental, and actually had some really great thoughtful things to say (i.e. her banter with Anders about the nature of Justice)

I started to like Carver only after my second playthrough, but now he's my favorite character along with Anders. Also Sebastian - at first I didn't like him but then he grew on me. I like his devotion and his impulsiveness.
And I'm disappointed in Aveline and Fenris.
As for Aveline, how it is possible that she was making her career in the City guard, while I and my sibling were working hard to pay for her entering the city?! When we paid that debt and had no stable income, she told her superiors not to hire Carver in the City guard for some strange reason?! And after all that she is lecturing him with clear conscience and is telling me that Hawkes are like family to her?! O_o I just really don't understand.
Sorry for ranting.

Cassandra. At first I thought she was just a Chantry follower that was focused on doing her job. As I kept playing though I got the sense that she repects Hawke but accepts that she has to use Hawke to achieve her goals. In fact on my first playthrough I thought her and Varric were by far the most interesting and now as I'm working on my second play she's growing on me even more.

Aveline grew on me. I wasn't sure what to make of her at first, because she's one of the few characters who seems like she doesn't need Hawke at all. But then I came to really like that. She takes no crap from anyone and I love it. She's a character I'd like to know in real life.

Isabella and Verric had the best sense of humour. Merril was so much of a bubble head that she was funny by accident.

I was really annoyed with Isabela at first. Initially she just seemed to be there for sex appeal, but as the game progressed she had some great lines and great moments. She also had some of the best inter-party banter. It wasn't weighty like everything Anders said, or straight up dumb like everything Merrill said. It was the perfect balance of humor and thoughtfulness.

Carver grew on me. I hated him for most of my mage playthroughs until my last 2 mages b/c I never hated him and actually cared about what he thought. In the end, he died tho but he and my mage Hawke managed to become friends before hand. Also for some reason Gamlen has grown on me. I know he's flawed and disgusting, but he grew on me for some reason.

I just started playing this game, I didn't think I would really get into it. and now that i'm on Chapter 2, I'm really getting into my character, I'm playing as a female which I am, it would be weird to play as a guy. but the two that I have grown to love so much besides myself is Isabella this awesome as a rogue and Aveline even thou she is the captain, and plus she hasn't turned me in it was cute to get with Donnik.. (i'm not sure if I spelled his name right) but I was tinkled by that.. sorry to write a book.

Anders and of course Varic. In my current run through I will add Merril to that list as well.

When I first heard of the characters of this game, I thought I'd find Aveline and Isabela annoying, and I also thought Anders would be awesome and was torn between him and Fenris as a LI. (I flipped a coin and chose Fenris.) By Act 3 of my first playthrough, Anders went down in my list of favourite companions in this game, and Aveline and Isabela are tied in second place. (Varric and Fenris are tied in first place) I love their banters too. By Act 3, I felt Anders was more of a jerk (I blame Vengeance more for this though). and it made me upset to see just how far the chirpy mage from Awakening had fallen. Not to mention the whole Chantry Boom thing really didn't help.

Isabela. I didn't use her in my first playthrough becuase I thought she'd be the standard ****y fanservice female character, but then after she ran off at the end of Act 2, I took her around with me in my second playthrough.
Now she's my favourite character.

I disliked the whole concept of Fenris.
"Oh, he's broody and tortured, he has white hair and tattoos that glow and a giant sword and super-strength and AMNESIA!"
In short, he could not be more "Final Fantasy" if he tried. Even Final Fantasy isn't as Final Fantasy as this. Gideon Emery has a great voice and gave an excellent performance, but he also raised the FF-o-meter that much higher, since..well...you know.
Let's just say he grew on me.

Varric. I wanted to hate him when I first bought the game -- can't remember why, I just did -- but from the moment he punched that pick-pocket in the face I was in love.

I hate to say it, but I definitely disliked (or at least distrusted) Varric when I first met him. I kept him out of my party until the Deep Roads expedition, but then during the expedition I realized that he was kind of awesome, and by the time Act 3 came around he was best friends with my Hawke. He's now my favorite video game character ever.

Probably Isabela, as I too went into the game thinking she and her assets were intended only as eye candy (and as such, also intended to offend my neo-feminist sensibilities). But, she quite surprised me by being so balanced and ... dare I say it.. deep? Her banter about self-esteem was eye opening.
I also had a bit of a rollercoaster with Anders. I went into the game thinking I'd continue loving him after Awakenings, then by my Anders-romance playthrough I ended that game hating him. Then, in subsequent PTs he has now grown on me yet again. Dammit Anders!

Carver - the poor guy just doesn't want to be a supporting character.
Aveline - for her Donnic quest (funniest quest I've played in a long time) and her unwavering loyalty.

Carver - at first I thought he was just a resentful little so and so, but if you listen and pay attention to when and how you get friendship/rivalry with him he's mainly motivated by keeping the family safe - along with a healthy dose of just being an 18yo little brother. His speech at the end on friendship is rather touching and shows some cracking character growth.

Fenris really grew on me during my first playthrough. I can't really say that I disliked him at first, more like I was indifferent towards him. But as the game went on I found myself liking him more and more.
The characters that I loved right off the start were Isabela, Varric, Merrill and Aveline. I also like Bethany, Sebastian and Carver (though his ****ing can still get on my nerves).
The only character I honestly dislike is Anders, which is funny since he was one of my favorite characters in Awakening..

Varric and Aveline are great. I like Isabela, but am extremely pissed off with her buggering off on me. Merrill is interesting with her weird combination of traits, but hard for my Hawke to trust, while Bethany is pleasant but dull. I dislike both Fenris and Anders because of their constant carping at the mage issue. I haven't downloaded Sebastian, but have a feeling he would annoy me as well.

Gamlen became my favorite non-party NPC. I am highly disappointed that Bioware did not let me adopt him into my mansion.

Aveline had to grow on me really. Though you really don't get insight into her until her Long Road quest. I just still have trouble finding a reason to use her but her character is well done when I have forced myself to use her. The only one who I still can't tolerate much ever is Anders. I know many like him. I just can't. But I didn't even use him much in DAA either. In DA2 I just kept wanting him to shut up. Would have rather had Justice walking around than Anders. To each their own I guess.
