If the Orgre killed Hawke instead, Kirkwall would look something like this:

Carver, Bethany, and Mother would get there and would live somewhere in Darktown because neither child would have the b*lls to step up and tell Gamlen to hold them up at his house

Niether child would not be able to earn the 50 Gold Pcs - in turn, no Deep Roads expedition

Varric would end up as a merchant who partners with Javaris and both end up dying in the Wounded Coast due to a Tal Vashoth attack

Anders' clinic would go out of business and he would end up being a "mobile clinic" wandering the free marches

Isabela would induce intense alcohol poisoning and in conjuntion with her numerous STD's (no Anders to cure her), she ended up dying

Merril stays with the Dalish, marries Master Ilen, moves into a hilltop home on top of Sundermound and makes the Keeper their babysitter

Fenris goes into Denerius' mansion all by himself, gets killed, and the henchmen ends up harvesting the lyrium from his body, and uses it for another slave

Sebastian ends up being a Priest because no-one hunts and kills the Flint Company Mercenaries and he admits defeat

Aveline ends up joining the Templars instead, becomes Knight-Lieutenant, and marries Knight-Captain Cullen, with Sebastian presiding over their wedding

If Hawke would have died:
-Carver would have been a templar since day 1, Probably get used as a vessel for (spoilers) as (spoilers) recruits, Beth would have been sent to the circle and probably made tranquil or killed for been apostate, Mother would have lived with her brother and died of old age, or died from the (spoilers) the elf (spoilers)in town.

-Isabela would have probably found the (spoilers) and flee before Qun attack the city. ( she is anything you want to call her but, she is smart and quick to act)

-Anders would have been found by templars and killed for been an (spoilers).

-Varric would have been a merchant and never would have put a foot in the deeproad.

-Merril would have become a (spoilers) and killed by her clan or died alone and forgotten.

-Fenris is found and is back to been slave or kill.

-Sebastian is a brother or kill by ( spoilers)

-Aveline get to be a guard captain and killed after the (spoilers) get the mini-revolution going with the help of some templars.

The only one I see having a future without Hawke is Isabela.

I give thumbs up to the threat title and that pic.
I was half expecting the OP to say "DA2 would have been a better game." Awesome for doing a very nice post :)

Didn't you hear? This is the new DLC: Dragon Age 2: Carver chronicles! Only $10 and it comes with some of DA2's pre-order incentives! Are you excited or what!

The hawke family are sturdy folks. When I play, I note that both Carver and Bethany rocks. Maybe we would have a Hawke champion anyway, It is possible that Aveline would up as the champion thou, she are the right material.

Interestingly, I think things really would have turned out for the better. Hawke was the only one who could kill all the monsters in the deep road, so the expedition would have failed, and there'd be no lyrium idol to screw everything up. Isabella would likely have been killed, so the Qunari could have gotten their book, and left. A lot of individuals would be worse off, a serial killer would be on the loose, but overall, things would be better.

I think Deep Roads would still have happened the same, but Varrick would have died after finding the Idol.

Orsino and Meredith would have stopped shouting each other for five minutes and dealt easily with the end of Act 2. After all, Orsino is so powerful he ignores NM difficulty enemy immunities.

Meredith would probably be around after game end, but I doubt that would ahve prevented the global uprising. Didn´t notice any moment in game when Hawke prevented Anders´ arrest.

That was to much for me to handle. The sheer pain I felt when that sentence was read was unbearable... I just...can't... :-(

Carver I can't see having the gumption to do anything other than whine. The Dog might have a better shot at becoming Champion than Carver.

Bethany because of her fear of Templars and need for "security" might have done something. Aveline is happy being in the guard.

If Hawke had died, who would return all those torn pantaloons to Kirkwall citizens? Won't someone think of the pantaloons!

Probably if Hawke had been killed by the ogre, Flemeth would've brought her back to life, something that would've made the game much better if it had happened for whoever did end up getting killed. All the Hawkes living would've made the game a lot more fun, so yeah, Hawke getting killed instead would've been great, because it would've assured that the death was only temporary, and everybody could still be alive at the end.

One big orgy on the top floor of the mage's tower during a full moon, and Zevran is in attendance.

Unfortunately the fun doesn't last, as the orge comes to an end as everyone is murdered by rouges.

Don't forget Isabela.  She would come, too.
