Sadly if the Ogre had gotten Hawke instead of Bethany or Carver nothing would have changed except for there being no Champion of Kirkwall to blame for the Mage vs Chantry/Templars war.

It would have happened anyway.

Anders was in Kirkwall plotting, the tensions between Magi and Templar were already high, Meredith's paranoia was pre-existing, and Orsino's frustration was also pre-existing.

The events of DA2 happen in spite of Hawke not because of him/her, nothing that the player as Haweke does makes a blind bit of difference to the storyline. So if he/she was dead it just means that the Chantry wouldnt have a scapegoat to hunt for the situation; at least not one so obvious as the Champion.

EDIT:
Actually now that i think about it, the Quanri would have butchered everyone in Kirkwall and touched off another round of wars between themselves and Thedas because of Isabela's actions and the ongoing hosylity the Kirkwaller's have for them.
So maybe no Mage v Templar war after all. Maybe just all consuming New Exalted Marches against the Qunari. lol.

Well, Orsino and Meredith walked into the room 2 seconds after Hawke pwns the Arishok and they would have been able to kill him if Hawke hadn't. In fact maybe working together to beat him would have made them start to be less aggressive towards each other and mages vs templars might have been solved peacefully.

Good point Nefla.

So it brings us back to my original point. Mage V Templar war would have erupted at Anders' instigation anyway. Thus there would be no difference to how things turn out in the grand scheme of things.

Kinda makes me sad that Act 3 is so retarded.

I feel your pain. It seems like a vast majority of people spell "rogue" incorrectly on here, too. It's always "rouge" or something similar. You know, because people really must like talking about their blush. Personally, I'm not that high maintenance. :P

So if there were no Hawke, do you think Anders would have stayed in Kirkwall? The...umm...at the end may not have happened if he had simply left. Or would it? Something to ponder, anyway.

I think Anders would have either been nabbed/killed by the templars or been forced to flee Kirkwall without Hawke's status to protect him.
