I know that it probably won't matter in the end, since earth will most likely get bombed to hell and back before the trial is finished.
But what do you think? Is Shepard going to get a fair trial, or is the alliance just going to put on a show and sacrifice Shepard to avoid war with the batarians or even the entire terminus systems?
Remember, Shepard has become more and more of an annoyance for the alliance and the council. S/He is working with a terrorist group, s/he is still going on about the reapers, and now an entire frigging solar system was destroyed and about three hindered thousand batarians were killed, most of them civilians, and this might cause a war. The council and the alliance might decide that the commander just isn't worth the trouble.
A related question: Does the alliance have the death penalty?
Fair trial or a kangaroo court?

I think it's a bit of both, since the Alliance wanted to take Shepard in for questioning ever since ME2, according to the Shadow Broker's files on admiral Steven Hackett.

I figure it will be meant to be mostly a show trial where no matter what you say the tribunal will take issue with you. It really depends on who the people involved in the trial are though, if they have one of Shepard's friends like Hackett involved it might be less of a sham.
I expect there to be much "Reapers? Is that your excuse for everything? You are delusional Shepard.". At this point of course the Reaper invasion starts.

I can't see how it could be a fair trial if there's any chance of it going against you (assuming it's Arrival related at least). There's basically no evidence that Shepard was even involved in the destruction of the system, the only people that could really provide evidence are Shepard (who has no reason to, unless Paragon but then being honest would probably work in Shepards favour anyway), Hackett (who sent Shepard on an unofficial mission and would have to admit to working with Cerberus if Shepard is to be considered a member of Cerberus) and Cerberus (who are Cerberus, they could maybe sneak some information through to people who could use it but the source would likely still be suspect so it'd be difficult to make it seem reliable).
If the trial is about you working with Cerberus then there could be more to it, I still can't see a fair trial being likely to go against Shepard in any way though (especially if you get re-instated as a Spectre).
A trial seems like a bad idea anyway. It'll suggest that there is something to answer for to the Batarians (who probably don't have anywhere near enough information to act on by themselves) and it's unlikely they'd be satisfied with the outcome (even on the off-chance that Shepard is convicted). It also doesn't make sense to sacrifice one of their best operatives (regardless of the whole "Reaper" obsession) and the "icon" that is Commander Shepard ("first Human Spectre, Saviour of the Citadel").
Perhaps the trial might work if it's unfair in your favour though, the idea being to justify your actions in a way the galaxy can live with (I'm not sure how that'd work for Arrival though, maybe best to just ignore that). They could claim that you joined Cerberus to undermine them and were merely working undercover against a threat to both the Alliance and the rest of the galactic community. It still wouldn't please the Batarians but they'd only be interested in the Arrival business anyway and mentioning that at all just doesn't seem worthwhile.

I would like a good drama court case. I mean I watch too many crime shows both fiction and non fiction so me being allowed to do a trial in game is quite a thrilling prospect sure they'll ruin all my fun when the reapers show up but until then let shep get railroaded! And not in the railroading way we where forced to work for Cerberus I mean the Batraians bring suit that uses a inkling of fact and twists in alot of fiction and they even bring in faked or planted evidence doing their best to make sure shep doesn't stand a chance at getting a fair trial.
The Alliance however using facts will do all they can to prove the Batrians claims either are wrong, falsified, or not exactly how they say it is to get shep either a not guilty or at the very least a smaller sentence dealt.
I hope during said trail they don't allow us to rewrite history like you saying you elected Udina when infact you elected Anderson back in ME for the counselor job. I want my shep to be called out as a liar if he/she tries to lie about what he did or didn't do.
