Shepard realizes that he is a damn gamecharacter and tells the player: Screw you, we will do it MY way => Game over ^^

FTW!! for Breaking the fourth wall!! If I heard FemShep say that, I'd quit playing for good!! :P

It might not need a plot twist: KotOR 2 got along fine with "there's no twist, it's just you." Mass Effect doesn't need Shyamalan Syndrome.

I'm leaning more to the idea of TIM using Reaper tech to have been able to conduct the Lazarus project.

What they did with Shepard wasn't exactly "run of the mill", after all.

Right, and you would think that if this technology was possible (without special tech) people with enough resources would use it.

It wasn't? Could have fooled me, what with the way everyone reacted to it.

Oh, Cerberus "rebuilt" you? Cool.

I know! This was a huge deal and no one Shepard talks to seems to give it a second thought.

In ME2, I remember Harbinger said something like "We are your salvation through destruction." and "Prepare these humans for ascension."

Maybe the reapers' intentions are not as bad as we think. The reapers may be some kind of guardians, who protect the higher dimensions of the universe. Maybe they are constantly fighting some evil beings/forces on a plane of existence far beyond our understanding and they need to replenish their ranks every 50,000 years (this time may not seem so long to beings on a higher level of existence).

In the end of ME3, maybe Shepard will make the ULTIMATE sacrifice, and help the reapers do their reaping in the entire galaxy, for the greater good.

This is very unlikely to happen, but if such plot twist really happens, it may be quite shocking to me, and it definitely make the scale of the game even grander.

Yeah, I had that thought too. Pretty much exactly the same as what is quoted above. But I dismissed it. Given all the tropes in the game (humans are special, Earth is special, blah blah) I can't see BW going for this.

Cerberus is part of the Alliance. The Alliance join the reapers.

Sovereign and Harbinger are the rebellious young kids of their species, doing the equivalent of holding a magnifying glass in the sunlight to fry an anthill (our universe). Once Shep takes care of them, the grownup versions show up... Could go really bad.

Twist #3: Shepard has Reaper tech in him.  Again, this would suck, but has been discussed before.

Thought that was pretty much a given at this point...

It's never stated anywhere in the entire game.

Wouldn't the "Luke, I am your father" twist have to have come in the second game of the trilogy, seeing as ESB was the second as well?  A major twist in the third act is 1) too little too late and 2) akin to comedy writers making fart jokes when they run out of ideas.

Definitely not the twist I'd prefer.

Or just when the universe is about to die, the parent shows up, lectures them and drags them back home by their tentacles for a good whuppin.

Wait, I think they did that plot in Star Trek....

A reporter touring Bioware's facility said that ME3 contained a "Luke, I am your father" level plot twist.  Thus, the wording I chose for the thread title.  I think he meant to say it's a twist of that magnitude, not that it parralels the Star Wars scene being referenced.

Maybe the Reapers are trying to build up an army to save the universe from an even bigger threat.

No, but that is pretty much the whole direction the game is heading and underlying theme of the series.  The union of organic and machine.  I thought it was pretty clear Shep is being led down the path toward becoming the next Saren and he'll have to make a choice somewhere along the way in the same vein Saren did.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out Shep's reaper parts are the key to the Reaper's final defeat and we see Shep go all Saren-husk like as he sacrifices his humanity to save humanity.

Sorry but my Shepard is nothing like Saren.  That said, he would certainly take on Sovereign's implants to eventually take down the Reapers.  But that's not realistic, considering the indoctrination effects.

I'm betting on the idea of the Reapers believing what they're doing is good for the galaxy. Think about it. If organic life were allowed to continue indefinitely, who's to say that all the resources in the galaxy wouldn't be used up, and all organic life would suffer the fate of the Drell on Rakhana? Maybe the Reapers think it's better to destroy organic life before it gets to that point and allow the galaxy to continue to function rather than becoming a useless wasteland.

Well, that was presentation for journalists, so Bioware employee tried to explain them what's going on. I bet he mentioned Cerberus' reasons or Reapers' in worst case.
