I don't understand why people assume she's super old. Her age is never stated in game, she could be as "young" as Anderson for all we know, maybe even younger. Remember in the books people look alot younger at what we consider old age now but for some reason this doesn't translate to in game.
If she has been with the Alliance since the retaking of Shanxi, then she is at least in her mid to late 50's. Now that is not that old considering humans can live up to about 150. But old enough to be a grandmother. Heck, I know people in their 30's that are grandparents.

I find it very hypocritical that no one here cares about dating aliens -- some so vastly different they can either kill you if you do it the wrong way (Garrus) or you could kill them (Tali) -- but a lot of you are somehow disgusted or put-off by the idea of dating an older woman.
Come on.
Why are you surprised? People hate no one more then their own kind. "An older woman, a disabled guy, another human of the same sex? Ewwwww gross! Reptile aliens, a walking suit with a tube instead of face? So HAWT!" That's unfortunately how some people act...procyon8 wrote...

Aliens are fantasy. We have preconceptions about what it means to have a relationship with other humans depending on age, gender, etc, obviously not the case with regard to aliens. Even though we still apply our gender preconceptions onto aliens which I find a little questionable.
Maybe it has nothing to do with her age and they just don't want to romance her? I like her as one of the few purely platonic relationships Shepard has, someone to go to for advice and to discuss old times without any sexual tension involved. I just didn't get any chemistry between them at all.procyon8 wrote...
And people's hangups about dating older women have gone down ever since the whole "Cougar" thing became popular, so why would people have hangups about a possible Chakwas romance?

While my Shep has totally fallen for Ashley it would be interesting to see how a romance between Shepard and Chakwas could happen.

We're talking about things that are aliens. They could have given us a sentient cube with an awesome personality and it could have been a romance. All these things cross a demarcation line where appearance or age (Liara is probably older than Chakwas) are hardly relevant since we've already compartmentalized it as outside the spectrum of real life relationships.procyon8 wrote...

What? We're talking about things that either look like an unholy science experiment designed to cross-breed a cat, a baboon and a velociraptor, or a green Harlequin baby all grown up, I'm pretty sure most (at least normal) people have preconceptions against that sort of thing.
Apparently the people who have hangups about it aren't into the whole cougar thing. (for that matter, we don't know if they're into the alien thing either, which would make the debate about hypocrisy a bit moot if they aren't)And people's hangups about dating older women have gone down ever since the whole "Cougar" thing became popular, so why would people have hangups about a possible Chakwas romance?

I'm a little offended that people are trying to say she's actually not old. She's definitely an older woman. She can be in her 60s. And you know what? That's okay.

I guess.
That is something odd I noticed in ME2 -- how it's difficult to talk to almost anybody onboard the Normandy without trying to jump their bones, how the platonic people (especially Kasumi and Zaeed) hardly say anything worthwhile to begin with and those that do you can't have deep or involved conversations with. The only exception to this rule is Thane, and one, he annoys the hell out of me, and two I can't fathom why he's the only person on the damn ship you can friendzone.
EDIT:
This game seriously needs more deep, platonic characters (and friend options!) instead of just having Chakwas and Joker serve that role.

Bioware needs to learn to say "no" to all the relationship people. We don't want ME3 to be Dragon Age 2: In Space haha.

Oh my, yes. We might end up with one or two characters flirting with Shepard one time. The horror.
