Hey guys I've been combing the threads and I havent seen anyone pose this theory. I was thinking that it might be a possibility that the leader reaper (possibly Harbinger, not sure) could be controlling the rest of the reapers through indoctrination?? And that the reapers aren't actually so bad it's just they are being controlled by the Leader Reaper and are forced to do his evil bidding. I mean after all, don't we know that each Reaper is at least partially made up of organic's or remnants of an organic civilization that was enslaved by the Reapers..what do you all think?

i think it could be a possibility! i mean maybe there are a few reapers that control the rest and they key to defeating them is to destroying the reapers that are controlling the others!

I dunno. Do we know if indoctrination works on cybernetic minds? We do know that indoctrination doesn't work on synthetics (Legion isn't indoctrinated and talks about a schism of beliefs within the Geth collective, but indoctrination isn't mentioned about the Heretic Geth).

The impression I got from seeing the Reaper Larva was that they use the material from organics to create some parts of themselves, but they are mostly synthetic too.

I dunno. It's an interesting idea, and would offer a significant weakness to the Reaper fleet. If the 'leader', or whatever, could be killed, the rest of the fleet might... 'wake up'.

Well... interesting thought but no. All Reapers indoctrinate organics, so it's not like the King Reaper is indoctrinating everybody else including the other Reapers.

Also "We are each a nation - independent, free of all weakness." we all know that indoctrination causes loss of independent thinking, so the Reapers can't be indoctrinated. This quote also dispels the idea that destroying the King Reaper will cause the other Reapers to shut down.

It depends on how you look at that though, the organic parts of each Reaper could have been indoctrinated by the Reaper that they're part of (assuming they have any kind of consciousness, which is implied by "we are each a nation").  It could be that each Reaper is basically run by a Reaper AI who has indoctrinated it's organic contents to think alike.

The fact that Sovereign and the Derelict Reaper were indoctrinating people speaks to the contrary.

Haha. I slack off for an hour and there's already two pictures that came up with the same idea I had for this thread.

Well, one because of the edit.

If someone was going to do it... may as well be me:

Anyways on topic, I think it may be a funny and contrived plot twist. But I've seen worse.

edit: Only now do I realise my typo. Oh well.

Ok...the thread title made me chortle..the same kind of laugh I made when my partner who was 8 and one half months pregnant, rolled over one night and told me she had something really important to tell me - then proceeded to tell me she was pregnant.

Regardless, was not expecting a semi-serious topic conversation.

Its a thought that has been thought quite a bit before. Take out a few leader Reapers and the rest lose their guidance or their will. Been done to death in Independance Day, Battle LA etc etc. So I hope not. But its a possibility.

In a way, with their monolithic drive to perpetuate the cycle of extinction, they are indoctrinated. Not in the sense of mind control, but we do know from Legion that a Reaper is made of many minds all focused on one task. I don't think they are all being controlled by one lead Reaper, but rather the process of creation insures that all Reapers are of the same opinion regarding the cycle.
