So, how are our "friendly neighbourhood" the Batarians doing?

According to Arrival, the reapers will arrive in batarian space first, and one of the first enemies in the game that's introduced is the batarian husk, Cannibals.

How do you think the batarians are doing? How many of their species have they lost? Will batarians become more friendly, now when their species is the closest species of getting wiped out first? Or are they still pissed about the Alpha Relay getting destroyed and refuses to help Shepard?

I really hope there's a way to get the batarians loyalty. And a batarian squadmate, wouldn't that be awesome? ^_^

My Colonist Shep will sit back and laugh at their plight. Then nuke em.

The Batarians are not a particularly... cooperative people.

That said, I'd like to have a Batarian squaddie. We've met a few who were willing to get over their initial prejudices, and certainly some who were highly articulate (I'm thinking of the one you could help during Mordin's recruitment mission). Maybe a Batarian scientist--someone who'd seen the Reapers at work already?

Idle speculation is fun!

After the events on Arrival, Im definitely interested in seeing how the Batarians will react to the coming event. I do hope we have the ability to gain Batarian loyalty just like the other races :D

After the relay went supernova, I'd say our batarian friends are just about well-done. Stick a fork in 'em.

They're probably struggling and most likely had to evacuate their homeworld(s), just like the humans have to. We saw lots of other batarians on Omega, and I'm sure there are others living elsewhere, so I don't think the entire batarian race is dead/huskified...but they definitely are at the bottom of the power balance now, I'd say.

Unless they were able to do something with the Leviathan of Dis (which was probably a reaper)....

Except Bahak is not the only system inhabited by batarians. There are plenty of other batarian worlds in the galaxy. Whether or not they've been overrun by the Reapers, I don't know yet.

Their remnants beg for their lives and join the citadel military as mercenary to help defeat the reapers.

I'm hoping that the two weeks of CDN stories covers some of this. The Hegemony has isolated itself - I could see it getting attacked and not even asking for help as the Reapers quickly attack and indoctrinate planet after planet. The leaders might get indoctrinated, which could then turn the entire populace into allies of the Reapers.

It doesn't help that they're presented in the setting as the generic evil race.
We see individual Batarians as terrorists, slavers and as barkeeprs that poison you. And let's not forget the Batarian government throwing a giant hissy fit over a minor border dispute, which was followed with them cutting of all diplomatic relations and starting a proxy-war against human settlers.
Combine that with the fact that the total ammount of non-hostile Batarians you interact with are... err... two, or something, and I can imagine most player not having a favorable view of Batarians.

Mind you, I accept that the possibillity exists that your average Batarian-Joe is nice, agreeable fellow and all we've seen is the extremist minority, but even then I can't imagine them being that nice with the slavery thing they've got going on.

Why do you people hate the Batarians so much?...
They hate the Council/Citadel for almost the same reason as you hate the council. You feel that they don't give a crap about you or humanity...

Could it be the widespread use of slaves, slave raids on f.example Mindoir, the terrorists in ME1 DLC "Bring down the sky"and not even treating the slaves a bit humane?

I'd say they deserve what they get from the council.

The Batarians arent gone yet,i think the Reapers have steamrolled all major points of resistance and moved on to Earth before word could get out.
Remember the Batarians are acknowleged as the masters of extreme tactics, they are more inclined to drop asteroids on thier own populace and use nukes than most of the other council races.

We're gonna need some more asteroids.
