I don't hate the Batarians - I find them to be an interesting if cruel/bastardish race, but there are definitely some redeeming characters we've encountered thus far and am NOT against a Batarian squaddie if it would suit the game. Unfortunately I don't think we're going to get one given the focus on a smaller, more tight knit squad and all the available options already + Vega.
So, how are our "friendly neighbourhood" the Batarians doing?

Ummm... my War Hero Shepard is Paragon and if I was Shepard, I would be Paragon, (with a little bit of Renegade, oh yeah) so I´m against laughing at the Batarians´ bad luck. After all, not all Batarians would hate humans to the point of dismissing anything we say.
While true, conversation broadens ones perspective and further understanding I would never have a defensive pact with such a nation, except for the most extreme circumstances like the Reaper invasion. And assuming the Alliance comes out of that conflict stronger than the Batarians do I would, as Alliance leadership, stab them in the back while they bled. To stop the slave raids targetting other races, especially human, colonies.

Except Bahak is not the only system inhabited by batarians. There are plenty of other batarian worlds in the galaxy. Whether or not they've been overrun by the Reapers, I don't know yet.
I think leaving them for Reaper chow is the best course...maybe it will slow the invasion down for a few months.

I would not be surprised to learn that the shuttle that got off of Kenson's rock played a large part in the invasion of Earth. Therefore, we really need to learn a lot more about the process of indoctrination and that means finding Rana Thanoptis. I don't expect any different for Earth because the longer the Reapers are on the ground the easier is their task of destroying humanity's home.

The batarians aren't extreme xenophobes. It's just the Batarian Hegemony, the government, is pretty much insane (isolated itself from the rest of the galaxy, keeps batarian civilians in batarian space and allows only military, terrorist groups and criminal groups out of batarian space, promotes and gives money to pirates, slave rings, criminals to attack human colonies, and a whole lot of propaganda directed at their people) that doesn't mean the batarian military or civilians wouldn't refuse to aid you and the rest of the galaxy. The batarians would likely be willing to negotiate with Shep because they have probably lost many worlds and millions of batarians have died or turned into husk. Now, I'm guessing, they are either evacuating or fighting desperately to hold on their remaining worlds against the Reapers and likely needs a lot of help. Finally the batarians, having a lot of political sway in the Terminus Systems, could influence other races in the Terminus to aid you if you successfully convinced them I'm guessing.DarkDragon777 wrote...
Well I doubt all of Batarian space will be overrun. I'm sure Khar'shan will still be intact throughout some if not all of the game depending on your choices. The majority of the Reapers seem to be interested in Earth at the beginning. You also have to remember that the Batarians are extreme xenophobes and don't let anyone enter or leave the Khar'shan or the surrounding area.So I doubt they will let Shep in to negotiate. (although I really hope they will) It would be really interesting to see if the Batarians would cooperate.

Look them up on the site and read how their culture is. Honestly, I feel satisfaction of killing Batarians, but I also feel some remorse for some. From the site, it says that their government is likely some type of totalitarian state (Kind of reminds me of the US's thoughts of Cuba but more hostile). I admit, the batarians we've seen mostly hate humanity, but you can't really blame them.
In the game, we're still new to the community and already starting to take things that were originally their's. Think of how older siblings might feel when younger ones end up taking their stuff, resentment and amnisty develops and grows. But I doubt all Batarians feel the same way. In society, the civilians and their opinions are not always considered to be an absolute acceptance of how people feel. Ina totalitarian state, the government leaders might be the only ones in charge and decide things for the rest.
They may not like humanity very much in general, but they don't seem to hold that much anger towards the other races. They might end up willing to help, especially given the circumstances of complete annihilation and extinction because they couldn't let go of old grudges. People are willing to do some surprising things given certain situations.

Well, except for the slaving runs, piracy, and terrorism. If that's the preferred relations they have with the rest of the species in the galaxy, my Shepard will continue to put them down like the rabid beasts they are, especially if they're threatening other humans.

Humanity taking things that were theirs? No. Proximity to a habitable world does not simply make it yours, particularly when someone else is just as close and you haven't actually inhabited the world. The batarians have a stick in their rears over the fact that humanity has a superior military and superior expansion strategy for colonizing the traverse. They picked a fight and lost, and when the Council told them to stop whining over losing a fight they started in the first place, they did the most idiotic thing possible and cut themselves off from the rest of the galactic community.

I have to agree, about the only thing they do now is, update the language translators so they can continue to talk...And boy do they love to talk.
Sadly enough this is a good proxy with what has happened in the middle east. And China.

Anyway I see Batarians as the alien species that will be really isolated and be open for an easy attack.

I can tenuously see the analogy to middle eastern regimes, but China? That's substantially flawed to the point of absurdity.Nightdragon8 wrote...

Anyways, the Arishok knows what you do with dysfunctional societies. I'm disappointed my Hawke couldn't side with him to burn down Kirkwall, kill its petty, squabbling, ineffectual leaders, and impose order.

I'm indeferant about them. I don't care either way but i'm more point toward nuking the batarian homeworld. XD
I personally want my united Galaxy after this Reaper war to start a campaign of conquering the Terminus. With the Krogan cured of the Genophage they will have all the war they could want and conquer in the name of the Council! Citadel space will expand ten fold!!

Just to clarify,
The reason I mention China was mainly due to the fact that China has its own "rules" in that they claim 1 mile more than the rest of the world off there shores. They are pretty isolated also.. but have a huge army. So really it was the only real
