@Sapphire, great Oghma, you're fast! How did you get all that playing done, upload all those screenshots, and type all that story in less than twenty minutes or so? You must have a really great internet connection!

I think your resurrection rules are fine as they stand. It's more of an issue in BG1 from levels one to eight.

I won't argue with you about Kalyinara's morality. If you look at my D&D Psych Profile in the Trapped thread, you will see that I have a bit of a tendency to be a preachy Lawful Neutral type in real life. (harrumph, <deep James Lipton voice>, but I do think assassinating people is a business for evil assassins, not beautiful young priestesses of Good, harrumph, harrumph). End sermon.

It is fascinating to me to watch the story of Jaheira and the harpers unfold, since I almost never get involved in any of that stuff. I don't agree to help Xzar and Monty, so I miss all of that story, and I don't romance Jaheira, so I miss a lot of that story. I only get the curse storyline when I play with Jan, because otherwise, I never have any reason to go down into that dive of a tavern on the docks. (harrumph, I prefer the Mithrest Inn, harrumph).

I look forward to the next update, and I will miss you next week.

Actually, it took me at least half a hour to a hour to get all that playing done, and about half an hour to type all of that. So, I'm a fast typer. Haha.

Also, edited the OP with the new Optional Rule for Resurrection. I will take it down if it gets tons of negativity!

You do have a point, but, alas, she thought she was doing it for the greater good. Even though she doesn't go toe to toe with the guys. She has Sling +3 "Aria's Dragonbane", and Shield of Harmony +2 equipped. I'm soo in love with Shield of Harmony +2.

I know isn't it cool, and with certain mods, I ended up turning Xzar in and helping the Harpers instead. Haha. I prefer going to the Copper Coronet, instead of going to that dump in the docks, but alas, needed to go down there for Edwin's stupid documents.

Thank you! Hopefully I can pump another update out when I get home from class today. English Composition I..Mmm...Turning in my Narrative Essay since its due next week. Haha.

@Belgarath

Just a little clarification on Corey's info. To be able to use Remove Magic successfully on the lich, the level rule must apply: you must be higher in level than the lich to use it. Otherwise, RM would fail. Also, always check if there's a Spell Shield or a Spell Turning.

Spell Shield will absorb any kind of magic attack (spells that bring down spell protections are called magic attack spells). Thus, a Spell Thrust can actually be used as a "decoy" spell so that Spell Shield will absorb it. Spell Turning needs something else, as it reverses even Breach (as I installed the Consistent Breach mod of SCSII, this doesn't happen anymore) so you have to use something to bring it down like Warding Whip, RRR, or Pierce Magic.

Once Spell Shield and Spell Turning are down, you can use Breach to destroy combat protections (ProMW, Stoneskin, et al) or more of the former to bring down other buffs. Personally, if the latter is needed, I highly suggest Warding Whip as it's a continuous strip of protections. Give it three rounds and it's completely removed an enemy's protections.

@Saint of Sinners, thanks Saint. I think that trying to get all the spell defenses down for getting spells to start working against a prepared mage is very convoluted, and since I always play as myself, I do not think that I could remember all that while under combat pressure.

I prefer to devise panic buttons that I can use without having to think about it very much.

BTW, I learned from my battle yesterday that Breach will never work on a lich, no matter what else I do. I was wasting my actions casting that.

I think my plan of making sure everybody is carrying a normal weapon is the best idea.

Nine times out of ten, melee takes care of casters really fast as soon as you get rid of those pesky PfMW spells and illusion spells, plus you have to get the Stoneskins down.

I've seen what happens so many times, I just have to laugh at mages who stand there waving their arms around and chanting Latinate phrases while three armored men and women are coming straight at them with swords! (You scream and start running while begging for mercy when that happens, you fool! :P)

That last comment was aimed at the little cartoon mages, btw, not you, SoS.

I do appreciate all the advice I get from people, though, so again, thank you. It will probably save my life once I get to ToB and the mages start to get scarier.

You have this the wrong way around. In the vanilla game, Breach ignores Spell Protections like Spell Turning. The more consistent Breach component in SCS tweaks Breach so that it is bounced by Spell Turning.

EDIT: Also Liches are immune to non-magic weapons. So with PfMW they are immune to all weapons. Having normal weapons can be useful for other enemies that cast PfMW, just not Liches.

Oh, yes, I do have it the other way around. Breach indeed is bounced by Spell Turning. Silly me. I'm getting confused over all the changes in here (but they do become more consistent what with them affecting non-Spell Turning buffed liches and rakshasas).

UPDATE #4 on Todd the Sorcerer (skip this if you don't like reading short stories):

<sigh>, More trudging around underground! I'm afraid that AO has decreed that we are to spend a significant portion of our Quest to Solve the Bhaal Debacle here in the Underground.

On the advice of one of my Dreams, we went back to the elemental portals we found and finished killing all the elementals. It was good to have the Gift tell me that there were only ten elementals to kill per portal!

I gave up figuring out where the Imprisoned mage might be. (That awful Satan's Spell, as I will call it henceforth in my journal, leaves absolutely no sign of where it has been cast, either to mundane senses or magical senses; even the Gift cannot find any trace of the pour souls who have been sentenced to this by some demonic Evil, truly placed in Hell (the way the religious people from my Earth believed in it), for all eternity with little hope for escape! Well, without the burning. But physical pain might actually be a welcome distraction if you were in Hell...)

The only defense against this spell cast from the people who want to be liches (who else would resort to such Evil...), is to have friends! At least five of them! And a liberal inventory of Freedom scrolls. (Praise Oghma for the priests who devote their lives to creating these precious scrolls!)

Ah, but I digress. (Bear with me, dear reader.) We did find a clue when we found an abandoned archaeologist's camp. (Well, that's the best we're going to get. If we waste an expensive Freedom scroll, so be it.)

Well, I cast the scroll, and my hunch was right! The mage appeared, and was most grateful. I can only guess that he had not been Imprisoned for long, and that maybe the madness of Imprisonment affects people differently, because he wanted to continue his original mission! He was clearly insane, the poor guy!

Out of mercy, and also curiosity, we helped him finish his mission through the portals. It mostly involved defeating a few elementals for him, then waiting patiently for him to return to us. At the end of a couple of days worth of waiting for him, he rewarded us with a magic rod that reflects spells. Nothing that will be very useful to us, but he seemed so happy, it made me feel good to accept the rod and celebrate with him, and wish him well on his way.

*******************

The next day, we came upon a svirfneblin village, and they asked us to help them defeat a monster and save their village, yadda, yadda, yadda.

The monster turned out to be a Balor! Just before going into the key cavern, I had Ano say prayers of protection over us, (Chaotic Commands x6), because we had no idea what was in there. (Would you believe he forgot to pray over us one-by-one for Fear protection? Ano, you are truly a muscles-for-brains guy.  <sigh>, I often wish Ano were gay, because I would be so into him (sorry, Faren, but come on, muscles as big as rocks, that chestnut hair and beard, those piercing eyes, those huge lips, that confident swagger - how about we make a pact that Ano is our "freebee" if he ever "turns", hmmm? I know you like bears, because you like me...))

Ahem, yes, well we defeated the Balor after I had to go running out into the corridors to protect and try to get a Fear-removal spell cast on Ano, while Kelley and Jaheira finished off the Balor.

The mayor of the village was very grateful, and rewarded us, and we also got a reward from the village blacksmith, whose son we had saved from Imprisonment (brrr, I still don't know how people sleep at night in this world, sometimes!)

And we were told how to descend to the next level down <sigh>, and find our way to Irry and Bodhi through the drow, by talking to some "Magic Lady of Light" we're supposed to meet down there....

So we went looking, but I couldn't resist exploring a small area where we had fought some lizard people first, and, gosh-dang-it-to-heck, we fell down a hole and got ......

TRAPPED. By Illithids. Great. Just, freakin'. Frackin'. Great.

They were trapping slaves to fight in one of their arena games. (What in the world motivates these super-intelligent aliens, who spend all their time hiding on worlds where the technology has no chance against theirs, and they conduct ...... arenas? <Sigh>,  I guess they're like the Gamesters of Triskellion or something.)

Oh well, Illies are basically no match for us, as long as we have Ano to pray to Helm for protection.(Chaotic Commands). Oghma, is there any chance I could be a priest for you? It would seem awfully nifty if you could give me the power to make my friends and me immune to horrible, evil monsters, the way Helm does for Ano. Not that I'm complaining or anything about the powers you do choose to give me, but the ability to deal with evil mages and monsters in those very, very rare instances where I'm needed, just doesn't seem to stack up half the time..... But, oh, well, thank you Oghma, for giving me powers that protect me from mooks and occasionally help big time with battles against strong stuff.

Geez, sorry, Oggy, that wasn't much of a prayer of gratitude, was it?

<Ahem>, so we beat the illithids, freed their slaves, (I could write a chapter or two on the adventure, but who would read it?), and made it back to the svirfneblin village).

Tomorrow we will find the Lady of Light...

Oh, BTW, I made fifteenth level, finally. New spells are Shadow Door, Improved Haste, and Spell Sequencer (the three-spell kind).

@CKT - I actually skipped the TotSC Areas on Kalyinara, and Akiel. Err, I take that back. I did the 2nd floor of Durlag's Tower on Kalyinara because I wanted the Tome of Understanding to increase Kalyinara's Wisdom. Its so riduculusly long, and I'd rather not do it after doing it on Ayaka. Haha. Also, I apologize for making you feel stupid! T'was not my intent!

@Belgarath - Congo Ratz(Congratulations) on reaching the 15th level! Also, poor Impirsoned mage. I could have only imagine what would have happened of Galvarey got his way with Kalyinara. Lol@being trapped by Illithids. When Ayaka got captured she was like "What in the nine hells is this?! ._." Hope you keep going, and telling more of Todd's(your) story.

Update on Kalyinara!

Kalyinara led her group to the Shadow Thieves Guildhall. Where she talked to Harold as Sir Aster said. Harold got a key to the cellar from some Thug in the Slums. Harold said that Kalyinara should clear the upper levels before heading to the cellar. Which she did. (Do keep in mind that this is the Paladin path that Alternatives gives you. Haha.)
Posted Image

On the lower level, Kalyinara killed Booter, and freed Tizzak. Tizzak said to kill Aran Linvail's mage in order to even get to Linvail.
Posted Image
Posted Image

A rogue named Dedral blocked the path. Until he was killed.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Deeper into the Thieves Guild, they found Haz, and killed him. Then, they went to Aran Linvail's room, and killed him.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Upon going back to Aster, a runner came from Faren. Apparently, Seth, one of Faren's friends, wanted to speak to him. So Kalyinara led her group to Imnesvale to speak with Seth. However, they encountered a spirit of the Forest, and accepted her quest to free the forest from some foolish humans. Kalyinara, and Faren looked in the Inn, however, they did not find Seth. The innkeeper did tell them where to find Seth though. They did find Seth, and he revived some old friends. However, Kalyinara and Faren had to kill them.(Poor Seth!)

Kalyinara led her group to the Temple Ruins, and to the humans that were plaguing it. She made a deal with them, and got a piece of Mithril, and a message for one of the humans. Then, the humans left, and Kalyinara returned to the spirit.

Posted Image

Kalyinara, and her group rested outside of the Ranger's Cabin in Imnesvale. When Dermin appeared again, and attacked Jaheira. However, Dermin was killed for believing what Galvarey did.

Kalyinara went to the temple and did her next assignment. Then, Kalyinara returned to Sir Aster, and that was to destroy the Vampire den in Athkatla.

@SapphireIce101

That is a bunch of skeletons. They got fireballed before they could attack anything.

Another update! Last one for the night.

Warning: This part of the story contains parts of Fishing for Trouble. Therefore spoilers. Read on if you dare! However, it also contains the Battle against Bodhi.

Kalyinara led her group to Porthpentyrch to investigate the mysterious...emptiness. However, Kalyinara, and her group entered a very tiny building, and met the man in charge of the lighthouse. He said that a demon was in the Lighthouse. However, once at the lighthouse...Kalyinara tried to open the door, but it was locked! So she talked to the man again and got the key and ascended to the top floor of the Lighthouse. There was Tan'ri up there. The only way to free it was to get a key. However, the key was past...tons of traps that Kalyinara could not pass. So, she asked the tan'ri on what to do and it said to talk to a Lady Ravenhair.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara led her group to the West Government District again, and spoke to Lady Ravenhair, and she said to come back in a day. However, when they returned she was no where to be found. However, a little girl showed up, and said that some cowled wizards showed up because Lady Ravenhair was practicing magic without a license. Delon also showed up to tell Kalyinara that Imnesvale was under attack. So, Kalyinara went to the council of six building, and paid 4k GP for a license for Lady Ravenhair. Lady Ravenhair said to meet her in an hour.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara headed towards Imnesvale, and killed some orcs. She had saved Madulf and a boy named Attla.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara returned to Lady Ravenhair, and she said the only way to get past the traps was to die. However, there was a rare component in the potion to make Kalyinara into a ghoul. She needed to kill a vampire child.
Posted Image

Kalyinara headed towards the Vampire's Lair. Aster had sent a mage to help open the door, which he did. Then he died. Kalyinara killed many vampires including the Vampire Child.
Posted Image

Lassal led Kalyinara around the vampire lair, however, in the end he died, and his mistress, Bodhi showed up. Kalyinara almost killed her with the help of her party. However, Bodhi escaped. Also, Terminsel showed up again, and gave Jaheira a Harper pin. So, Kalyinara went to go tell Lady Ravenhair that the Vampire Child was dead. Lady Ravenhair said to return in two days.

First Update on Kalyinara.

Warning: This post contains things from Fishing for Trouble. If you don't want to be spoiled then please skip this post! However, it also contains some quests from the Ranger Stronghold and Cleric Stronghold.

Kalyinara decided that she should do something while she waited two days on the potion that Lady Ravenhair was making. So, Kalyinara went to the Forest of Tethyr to look for a little girl's dad. However, she found a woodcutter instead. The woodcutter told Kalyinara where the little girl's dad was at. Then, Kalyinara led her group to the North Forest, and saved the little girl's dad from being turned into wolf lunch.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara returned to the little girl, and told her that her dad was safe. Then Kalyinara talked to Lady Ravenhair, and she gave Kalyinara the potion. However, Kalyinara had some business at the Temple District, but before she could go to the Temple of Lathander, Delon said that the Minister of Imnesvale wanted to talk to her. So, Kalyinara went to Imnesvale, and talked to the Minister. The Minister told Kalyinara that someone was posing as the witch Umar, and she threated to kill everyone. So Kalyinara headed to the temple ruins and killed this fake Umar. (Also, on the demon buddy that Umar had...Xan cast chromatic orb on it and it became petrified. I started to laugh.) Kalyinara got a treasure from Meliekki, however, she gave it Kivan since hes the real ranger.

Kalyinara returned to the temple district, and the temple of Lathander. Lara told Kalyinara that the girl thanks her, and she started her next assignment. Her next assignment was a man who was jealous because Kalyinara took his spot. He wanted Kalyinara to duel him; however, Kalyinara would not do that. Once that was over with, Lara sent Kalyinara to kill Weathermistress Ada, which Kalyinara did.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Kalyinara headed back to Porthpentyrch since she had the potion. She took it and got past the traps, and got the key. Then, she took the antidote, and then returned the Key to the Tan'ri. However, the Tan'ri said that there were some Red Wizards causing some trouble in the Cloudpeak Mountains. So, Kalyinara had another task to do before she could go to Spellhold.

An update on Kalyinara.

Kalyinara had to talk to some guards before being let in to Cerendor Hold.

Kalyinara spoke to the Caravan Master about the Red Wizards and their caravans. The Caravan master told Kalyinara to talk to Earl Wulfheof to get his permission to attack the Red Wizards. Which she did. Then Kalyinara went to the dungeons and freed a Guard Seregant.

Then she talked to the Caravan master, and killed all the Red Wizards. After killing the red wizards, she talked to the last one and got some important information. Very quick update: I listed my new sorc spells incorrectly in the last entry: that should have said Shadow Door, Improved Haste, and Contingency.

****************************

Tired and exhausted, we emerged finally from the illithid pits. My magic time-telling device reads midnight. I suggest we return to the svirfneblin village and rest at the inn before proceeding.

I am an overconfident FOOL! "We have the caverns cleared and pacified now,' I thought, "no need to spend time casting protective spells and prayers.". Dang-it, dang-it,dang-it to heck and back, I know better!

The cursed githyanki were waiting for us by the abandoned archaeologist's camp. They wanted their silver sword shard back. I told them they could have it if it was theirs; I couldn't care less about a githyanki silver sword shard. We have Carsomyr, after all.

They didn't believe me and thought it was a trick, and they attacked. I'm not sure what happened - I Mirror Imaged, and then promptly got hit by a spell and went to sleep. We have too many hitpoints for PW:Sleep, so I can't imagine what that spell was. My Contingency:Helpless:Dispel didn't work on the Sleep.

Keldorn, of course, saved the day, as usual. I think that man could do this whole adventure by himself sometimes. Although the rest of us have had to save him a time or two. Only a time or two.

Let's get to that inn, my friends!

End of Update

@BelgarathMTH:

A couple of points: First of all, even if normally you wouldn't be affected by PW: sleep you can be affected if that is your current HP at the moment (e.g. you've been damaged). Also perhaps it was emotion instead of sleep.

@Belgarath - Awesome! The Illithid Pits are a nightmare.

A wee update on Kalyinara.

Warning: This post contains content from Fishing for Trouble. If you do not wish to be spoiled then please skip this post.

Kalyinara and her group caught up with the Caravan and fakingly joined it to look for the Black Lotus. Which they did find the Black Lotus, however, the Caravan attacked them and everyone was killed. (Used a FB(Fireball), WotH(Wand of the Heavens), and WoMM(Wand of Magic Missile.))
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara returned to the West Government District and talked to an ex-harper and his friend. His friend wanted an Orb from the cave in Porthpentyrch. However, Kalyinara had already explored that cave, but the Lady was talking about a different cave.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Kalyinara returned to Porthpentyrch, and entered the other cave, and evaded many traps. Until she came upon a dwarf, and he gave Kalyinara the key to his tomb after she listened to his story. Once Kalyinara got the orb from the tomb, she returned to the West Government District and talked to the lady again. Then the ex-harper sent Kalyinara after another person that would be in the Silverale Hall.

@Corey, ah, I bet it was Emotion. So they're finally using my own tricks against me, are they?

Short Update:

The "Magic Lady of Light" turned out to be a silver dragon named Adalon. Beautiful! And very kind, as her race goes.

She wanted us to recover her eggs, stolen by Irry. Of course, we were going to do this! There was nothing more beautiful or worshipful in this world than a dragon! (I still have terrible wracking guilt that I went along with killing Firkraag, despite his game-playing. He was going to let us live, after all. And the boy. And the boy's father. The Sacred Heart would have objected, and Keldorn might have even left our team, but.... dang, this particular conundrum still eats at me. He was beautiful, and playful, and really not that much of a man-eater, as long as you played his games with him and gave him the appropriate respect. <sigh> Oh, well.)

So, she told us that the way back to the surface was through the drow city, and she gave us some magical disguises, and fake identities, and told us to use subterfuge to get through there.

However, she also forgot to give us directions! We got lost in a stinking beholder lair! Controlled by Illithids! And an Elder Orb! Who Hell-Imprisoned Ano!

(Thank the gods we purchased that Shield of Balduran from that artifact merchant back in Athkatla! And some Freedom scrolls! Geesh, talk about wrong turns! <Bugs Bunny voice>, I knew I should've taken that left toin back at Albequoikee!)

So we got out of there as fast as our little humanoid legs would carry us (after finding the staircase we thought we were looking for - completely blocked and useless!)

We finally found the entrance to the drow city Avalon told us to go to. It was well-hidden in shadows, naturally. And I politely quoted my false identity to the guard and requested passage.

(Upon which he promptly called us fakes and attacked us! But not before sounding an alarm! Good grief, their entire society is based on rudeness and threats? Such that none of them would ever, under any circumstances, be kind or polite?)

(Well, hookay, they deserve what they're going to get! The six of us together have as much power as, say, the Justice League, a fictional band of superheroes from my home planet.)

(But even as powerful as we are, this is going to take a looong series of guerilla attacks - attack, retreat, rest. Attack, retreat, rest. <Sigh>, we might as well learn to appreciate the quartz formations in the svirfneblin caverns, because we're going to be living down here for a week or two. )

(Oh, well, we've been through times like this before. And I know that this "short update" has gotten anything but. As I have become very fond of saying, "I love the sound of my own voice, okay. (I'm magically dictating this into my magic journal book). So sue me." And if you weren't at least a little interested in my story, you wouldn't still be reading it, now would you?) Posted Image

Signing off, for now.

Last Update for 7/8/2011:

The drow city was not as hard to overcome as I had anticipated. It took all of one day to decimate their population and kill their leaders. I would have stopped my attack at any time, and I would have been overjoyed to show mercy, if they had only offered up Avalon's eggs.

But they would not stop and talk to us! They threw themselves against us like pigs to the slaughter, never once heeding a single one of our emotional and heartfelt pleas to please STOP!

I do not understand how in the name of Oghma these people ever evolved sentience through natural selection! They appear to me to be nothing more than automatons, basically the same as killer robots from the sci-fi of my homeworld.

See this:

and this:

and, if you like people like that Viconia woman I saved back in Athkatla, this:

http://tvtropes.org/...hProtestTooMuch

So, anyway, Avalon was very grateful that we saved her eggs, and so she telported us to safety. Except, actually, she teleported us into a DROW AMBUSH!

The first thing I was aware of upon the fading of the tingling sensation of Avalon's transporter and the fading of all the little sparkly lights with the sparkly sound, was that I was GETTING BACKSTABBED BY A FRACKIN' DROW ROGUE!

Since I was too busy dealing with the bleeding, and the sound of my heart pounding in my ears, and the panicky casting of Stoneskin and Mirror Image, and Improved Invisible and anything else I could think of to protect myself, and seeing as how I was SURROUNDED BY A FRACKIN' PARTY OF DROW WHO ALL WANTED TO KILL ME, I don't much know what happened next.

Apparently, after things calmed down, my panic-button casting had kept me alive, for, lo and behold, I was standing there alive.

So Avalon thanked us profusely for returning her eggs, and transported back to her cave, or wherever, (she said she was getting ready to "leave the planet", so to speak), and we found ourselves in yet another cave, with more drow and lizard people and gods knows what else wanting to kill us, left on our own to find our way to the surface, where supposedly we will be able to catch up to Irry and Bodhi.

<SIGH>. Gods of Faerun, I most dearly hope you appreciate what I am going through to solve your Bhaal Debacle for you!

End of Update.

@Belgarath - I don't think I've been called an imposter whenever I enter Ust Natha. That usually happens when like after the Demon kills Phaere and her mother. What did you say that the gate guard called you an imposter so early?

Another update!

Warning: Content from FFT. If you don't want to get spoiled then skip this post!

Kalyinara led her group to the Silverale Hall. Only to find out that the person that they were looking for got sick! So Kalyinara, and her group went to the infirmary, and talked to the priest that was there. The person that they were looking for were beyond Kalyinara's, Jaheira's (...She doesn't have many heal spells at the moment anyway.), and the priests. So they went back to the ex-harper's house. The ex-harper said to meet hiim back at the infirmary, and once there he said to get a glass dagger from a man.

Once Kalyinara got the dagger, she and her group were sent to the Calim Desert to look for a flower called the Tiger's Eye. However, Kalyinara had to talk to an old woman, get a cup, and fill it with putrid water. Which she did.

Kalyinara led her group to the Guardian's cave, and asked for his hand. Then she got the Tiger's Eye, and talked to the ex-harper again. He said to come back in a day. Kalyinara did that, and the lady was up and walking. However, the harper, ex-harper, and the lady went to Porthpentyrch, and told Kalyinara to meet them there within a week and not earlier.

@Sapphire, "Please, sir, we are fakename from the city of fakename, and we are very tired and wounded, and we humbly beg entrance to your city." Or whichever response was closest to that.

I know, you can call me stupid, but subterfuge is not one of my skills. I am a TERRIBLE liar!

I picked that response as soon as I saw it, without even reading the others, because I knew that that was EXACTLY what I would say!

I'm not going to call you stupid, but I will laugh because thats actually kind of funny! I think I might say the same thing if I were trapped in Faerun. Haha!
