I never said or advocated that the PC would have any trouble helping Imoen. All I am saying the abduction of Imoen was lawful. I can fully appreciate the PC's desire to free her, especially when he talks to others in the city and find those who practice magic without a license never heard from again, even if it was benign (do you remember Ribald's story about his friend who's pony died and made a disc to carry his things and was arrested?).
Helping Imoen IS the right thing to do, doubly so since the Cowleds lose control of Spellhold to Irenicus. All I am doing is making a distinction between the initial abduction of Imoen (which was valid), to what happens later (which is not just and reasonable).

Anyway, regardless of what the most fitting interpretation is, another reason Alternatives rubs me the wrong way is that it smacks of those people who refuse to accept philosophical hypotheticals simply because they dislike having to face the tradeoff the hypothetical poses. I mean, if the vanilla situation is what you faced as reality, what would be your best pick? If it's the best available pick, I think it's defensible.
It's interesting you mention your objections to the thieves - once I decided to have my character, upon returning from Spellhold, betray the shadow thieves by waltzing into Arin Linvail's room, and rather than talking to him, attacking him and killing the entire guild. It's a huge pain in the neck since there are actually NPCs the game flags as "innocent" who look just like thieves, making it take a huge amount of reloading in order to avoid the -10 rep hits you get from killing each one. Plus many of the thieves are unkillable due to those scripted training dialogues that still trigger. Now I usually just imagine my characters destroying their guild after using them without actually playing it in the game since it's such a nuisance.
As for the Harpers, I'm not sure I'd ever be comfortable thinking of rigid thinking and fanaticism as great good, but I think it's a very fair point that the Athkatlan Harpers are an outlier in many respects.
Thanks also for the encouragement on Aeleuthrien.

Since you don't plan to play it, I will tell you that the Lathandrite paladins are headed by Inspector Brage himself, and that the Thieves' Guild in Athkatla has been a thorn in their side for years. For exactly the kinds of reasons you bring up, (carnage in the streets, or destabilizing the city government, for example), the central government of Amn cannot openly declare war on the Guild.
They therefore employ a secret operative, the female paladin Aster, to approach Charname's party and suggest that an "unoffical" and small group of powerful adventurers may be able to solve their problem for them. In return for their help in obtaining passage to Spellhold, they require that Charname first execute Aran Linvail for crimes beyond number, shut down the Guild, and also kill all the vampires in Athkatla.
The whole story rings true to me, but of course, as you say, it's a matter of opinion.

Kalyinara had another dream about Xan...This time it was in a place they had never been, and they both could talk. Xan asked Kalyinara to marry him. Obviously, Kalyinara said yes. However, the only problem was...How was Kalyinara going to get to Avarandor? Of course, like all dreams this one had to come to an end.

Kalyinara went to Watcher's Keep, and cleared out the first floor, and the second floor. She killed a Chromatic demon. Now shes on the third floor, and trying to find her way out of the maze.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 22 (Picked Summon Deva, and Mass Raise Dead for HLAs.)
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 14/15

Kivan - Archer – 19 (Picked Resist Magic for HLA)

I did some poking around online and found out that mephits are extraplanar, here usually as summons; I'd just assumed they were evil natives like goblins. So, given Aeleuthrien's hostility to summoning, I decided he'd interpret the mephits on the first floor as slaves of a sort. To retcon his killing them, I shadowkeepered his XP down by 5000 (which I think should cover them), rather than reload. So, Ael finally had enough reason to kill Rayic Gethras; he used the P:S jelly form, which took forever. Gethras was only threatening when he cast sphere of chaos and when he used MMMs, which cost Ael some health potions. Otherwise, it was just a matter of wearing down his stoneskins and running downstairs to recast PS as necessary.
With that RP-stretching stuff out of the way, Edwin's eventual offer to join him surprised Ael. Since Edwin knew of Ael's heritage, he might have insisted/blackmailed Ael, and by leaving the choice to Ael, he was either signaling his sincerity or gambling on some ulterior motive. Ael decided to hedge his own bets - he would take Edwin to keep him from vindictively babbling about Ael's lineage, but only later in the day after finishing his work for Bloodscalp (since the most likely ulterior motivations would concern the immediate quest).
Finishing the Maevar quest was fairly straightforward. When Ael had to kill Maevar, he went invisible inside the guildhouse, scouted around enough to decide the Maevar loyalists were too numerous to take on in full, and then went downstairs. He opened with a skull trap, and got a second one off before Maevar was able to move forward to initiate his dialogue. After that, there were only scraps left to mop up. It was a little cheesy, I'll admit. At least it was in-character; Ael wouldn't see virtue in giving a fair fight.

You will no longer disgrace this world!
Reporting to Bloodscalp leveled Ael up to lvl12, which just drove home the point he's leveling up too fast and needs some companions. Ael took Mislead, which was a hard pick. The main alternative was Pierce Magic, which I usually take later, but might have been good now with Cone of Cold. I decided his level was too low now for its MR lowering. I always take Death Spell here, but this time I decided I'd RP as if the spell were evil.
Ael went to the Copper Coronet to get Edwin. He accepted Nalia's quest and took her along, since he suspected he might need someone to keep an eye on Edwin, it made sense to take her as a guide, his successes of the past several days improved his mood somewhat, and he really admired her dedication to helping people. Besides, any shame he might feel about his parentage cut in favor of taking her given the need to keep an eye on Edwin.
To avoid cheese, I shadowkeepered Edwin's amulet away and nerfed Nalia's XP to 70000. I also reclassed her to an Illusionist, since I don't want an Imoen clone and I think that specialization would fit her sneaking out of her keep. I can't figure out how to get her to have the appropriate number of spell slots, however. If anyone has any tips on how to fix it, I'd really appreciate it.
Ironically enough, we haven't even left the Copper Coronet and I'm already getting sick of Edwin! I forgot he's not just evil, he's a jerk too. Ael might get sufficiently fed up he's willing to expose his deep secret to the world and let Edwin loose on the world just to alleviate himself of Ed's bothersomeness. I have been planning on picking up Aerie anyway after Ael gets over his heritage a bit more since Ael has never had that much interaction with true elves - Khalid having left with Jaheira and Kivan having been kind but very distant - and has a fascination with his kind.

When leaving for the City Gates, I encountered another SCS2 bandit group, one that had two mages. One of them cast a divination spell, and when Ael was visible, the other cast a Chaos aimed at him, which succeeded and led to his death; earlier one of them had cast a Chaos, but had centered it on himself so it didn't seem like there were any issues. I reloaded several times, with basically the same results. Running after getting invisible doesn't seem to help since the spell tracks Ael, and I'm unwilling to do that trick where you pause after someone's cast a spell, see what it is in the feedback box, and then instantaneously pull out & drink the countering potion (potion of clarity in this case, which I do have).
I could just have Ael run away, but it'd violate my no-metagaming-battles rule, since he doesn't know to expect this one to go badly. I can't think of non-metagaming tactics yet that could counter this possibility, since any countering spells or potions are too short-lived to make sense casting in the initial phase of keeping my invisibility up against divination. I'd welcome suggestions!
After soloing the game on this install with these tactics, I thought I was good enough to make it this time, but I see I was just lucky before. If I delurk again, I'll have to improve more beforehand.
Anyway, thanks for having such a fun thread!

Update on Kalyinara.
Kalyinara spoke to a crazy elven man, and healed him. What she got was that she needed three gems, and to fix a rod. She killed the demons that had the gems, and gambled with a Cambion. Imoen talked about having more dreams during this time.

Kalyinara went up to the fourth floor, and spoke to the "Lord of the level". Then she fought and destroyed some Mind Flayers when the man got bored.

In any event, congrats on making it to level 4. I think that level 4 is easier than either 3 or 5. I look forward to seeing how you deal with the Guardians of the next-to-last seal before Demogorgon. Also, I hope you remember the answers to those imp riddles and how to handle the spirit warrior maze!
@Satyr, sorry to see you go, friend. The kind of not-so-fun experience you seem to be having is exactly why I hate SCS. You'd have to hold a gun to my head to make me play an SCS game!

Update on Watcher's Keep.
After searching around, Kalyinara found an apprentice, and gave him a merciful death after he told Kalyinara about his master.

Kalyinara went to the Githyanki side and killed some Githyanki, a Demi-Lich (Totally forgot he was there.), and a Dragon. (Horrid Wiltings, a Dragon Breath, and Fireballs all around. Oh, and freedom spells being cast in the middle of battle. Haha.)

Kalyinara figured out the flame riddle, and killed Rock and his brother for some awesome treasure, and a way to get that silly mage out of his glass box! Kalyinara let the mage live, and go free. Then she entered the correct combination to go down to the fifth level.

Kalyinara met a Helmet ghost, and did its tasks, which involved killing a group of orcs, a dragon, and solving an imp's riddles. Kalyinara got a key, and is now trying to get the other keys.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 25 (Picked Aura of Flaming Death for HLA)
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 15/16
Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 20 (Picked Dragon's Breath for HLA)

Good thing I didn't fail then. XD!
Last Update for the Night. The Last bit of Watcher's Keep!
Kalyinara put the Purple, Blue, Green, and Red balls in their correct tubes. Kalyinara, also, ran around as a spirit warrior, and killed a Mummy with all necessary items, and heals.

Kalyinara, and her group fought the guardians. The Guardians were killed, albeit it was not easy. (Common strategy was Imoen casting Horrid Wilting, and Dragon's Breath with a couple of fireballs. Kalyinara had to unpetrify Deheriana when she got petrified by the Hive Mother.)

Kalyinara descended into the last level of Watcher's Keep, and spoke to the Imprisoned one. She was going to let Ordren deal with the Imprisoned One, or rather..Let the Imprisoned One kill Ordren for using Kalyinara. However, once Ordren and his group went down into Watcher's Keep, a Helmite Ghost showed up, and told Kalyinara that she had three options. One, Walk away. Two, Go kill the Demogorgon and save Ordren. Or, three, use an improved ritual scroll and Imprison Ordren, and the Demogorgon within Watcher's Keep in Helm's name. Kalyinara decided to do the Third Option. (Her Chaotic part of her alignment decided to kick in. Then again, how would someone feel if they were used, and were almost tricked into sealing themselves up?)

Now, Kalyinara is back on the road to finding out how to defeat Yaga Shura.
Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 26 (Picked Implosion for HLA)
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 16/17 (Picked Deathblow, and Greater Elemental Summoning for HLAs.)

There were a few times when I was going through there that I thought to cast Protection from Petrification; one time I cast it on the whole party; the other time I didn't have enough 1st level spells, but I at least cast it on myself.
I think I may have gotten lucky with that machine.
Good luck to you moving on in the main storyline.
EDIT: @Satyr: sometimes the forum gets wonky on me too, so it's not just you. I've developed the habit of noticing "hmm, I've started typing an awful lot of thoughts on this form that I don't want to have to try to recreate - I'd better highlight, right-click, copy." That way, if the forum erases your essay, you'll have most of it in your clipboard on your computer.
Another trick that works when I click "Submit" and then my post doesn't appear in the thread even though the top says "reply has been submitted", is to shut down my browser window and then renavigate to the forum and the thread in a new browser window.
Sometimes it's sufficient to just go back out to the forum listings and come back in, but often that still doesn't work, and I have to do the browser shut down.
My hypothesis is that the busier the forum server is, the longer the delay before it goes through and actually posts all the posts it has in its memory.
Also, if you like to keep polishing your longer essays the way I do, I've found that using the edit button several times increases the likelihood of creating server lag in your account.

Also, I decided to stop posting what HLAs I picked for every level, it was becoming too much of a hassle.
Update on Kalyinara!
Kalyinara led her group to the Forest of Mir. She fought a Wraith that was like Gorion. Kalyinara was digusted that some undead creature would take Gorion's form to -torment- her. Then inside the temple there were some undead, that were immediately killed. (Both fights used Horrid Wilting, Dragon's Breath, and Summon Deva.) Then Kalyinara spoke to Yaga Shura's 'mother' Nyalee, and made a deal with her on making Yaga Shura a mortal again. It involved getting two hearts. So Kalyinara led her group to the Fire Giant Stronghold in the Marching Mountains.

Imoen talked about how a viciousness came over her. Kalyinara started to worry about Imoen..Eventually, Imoen may turn into the slayer, and that bothered Kalyinara.

Kalyinara fought her way through the Fire Giant Stronghold, and killed Berenn, and his pet dragon, Brimnstone. Then Kalyinara spoke to an elf while collecting the two hearts that she needed. Then, Kalyinara returned to Nyalee, and she made herself, and Yaga Shura a mortal. However, Nyalee grew into a loving mother at the last moment and attacked Kalyinara. However, it was for naught. Nyalee was killed by Kalyinara. (Used Storm of Vengeance, Horrid Wilting, Dragon's Breath, and thats about it.)

Kalyinara, then led her group to Yaga Shura's camp, and killed Yaga Shura. (Used FB, HW, Two Summon deva spells.) Then Kalyinara had learned about her origins. How her mother was a Priestess of Bhaal, and had her to well, kill her. Kalyinara also learned that Gorion killed her mother. Also, she learned that Sarevok could have been taken instead of...well herself. Kalyinara felt sad for all parties involved. Kalyinara spoke to Melissan again. Kalyinara told Melissan that she didn't trust her, and what the Stone heads in the grove had said. However, in the end it didn't matter, she still had to destroy her brother and her sister.

Kalyinara did her challenge, and fought with her evil selt, and killed her.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 28
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 17/18
Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 22
Faren- Fighter -> Thief - 7 -> 31
Kivan - Archer – 23
Deheriana – Fighter/Mage/Cleric – 15/15/16
Reloads: Five

Not SK'd, but Level1NPC'd. I rarely use the spirit animals, but I figured that being a Totemic Druid is kind of in Jaheira's character. I forgot how I figured that though.

Kalyinara headed towards Amkethran, she had some road blocks on the way. However, she convinced most of them that she was of good intent. Then she spoke with Balthazar, and he gave her maps for Sendai's, and Abazagal's Enclaves. However, that wasn't enough for Kalyinara, so she attempted to sneak into the Monastery with Saemon's Smugglers help. Speaking of Saemon, he tried to get Kalyinara killed. Kalyinara got inside of the Monastery and asked Balthazar a few more questions. Then, she headed for Sendai's Enclave.

Kalyinara cleared her way through Sendai's Enclave. She killed a Lich, and his friends. A drow priestess and her friends. Then, she killed a drow captain, and met with the Spectator Beholder from the City of Caverns!

Kalyinara killed many mind flayers, umber hulks, and some thralls. Then she met up with Sendai. Sendai said that Balthazar was a Bhaalspawn. That somewhat surpised Kalyinara, but then again it really didn't. It seemed that Balthazar, and Kalyinara may have the same goal. However, Kalyinara tried to convince Sendai that they may also have the same goal, but Sendai said that they were enemies and attacked Kalyinara. To no avail however, since Kalyinara killed her, and another lesson began.

After all of that Kalyinara did her challenge, and defeated her innocence. Now, it was time to go after Abazagal.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 30
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 18/19
Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 23

Update: Abazagal's Lair!
Kalyinara headed towards Abazagal's Lair, and met Draconis. Kalyinara learned the horrible truth that she was...AN AUNT! (Buh-buh-buh.) However, Kalyinara killed her horrible nephew. (I want to call this some sort of dysfunctional family, but...I don't know if anyone would agree with me on that.)

Kalyinara entered Abazagal's Lair, and spoke with a yellow dragon. Kalyinara defeated the yellow dragon, and promised him that Abazagal would be killed, and his den would be restored to him.

Kalyinara found one of Balthazar's monks, which wasn't very surprising to Kalyinara. She took his rope, and went further into the lair. She spoke to a mage, and sent some young adventurers on a quest to get an eyestalk, and gave them 100 GP for it. (Best. Quest. In. ToB. Or at least I think so anyway.) Kalyinara got the scroll to reverse the geas on a dragon. Deheriana even asked who was Draconis's mother.

Kalyinara met her brother, Abazagal, he told Kalyinara that Balthazar was a Bhaalspawn. It wasn't new news to her. However, she still killed Abazagal in the end. Then, another lesson began.

Kalyinara exited the lair, and spoke with Elminster. (Yes, those are two dead black dragons. I forgot that they show up after you kill Draconis, but I sped in there before they could spawn. Ha ha.)

Kalyinara did her challenge, and spoke with Cyric. However, when Cyric tried to test Kalyinara with his 'favored', Kalyinara told him that this had already happened, and that she convinced some of his favored to, well, leave. So, Kalyinara managed to not fight Cyric's favored.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 31
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 18/19
Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 24
Faren- Fighter -> Thief - 7 -> 34

Kalyinara headed back to Amnkethran, and spoke with Saemon. Saemon got Kalyinara up to Balthazar's inner sanctum. Kalyinara somehow got Balthazar to ally with her to destroy Melissan. Melissan, however, ran away once she was beaten. So, Balthazar told Kalyinara to go back to the Grove with the stone heads.

Before Kalyinara could talk to the heads. She had to kill a Fallen Solar. Then she spoke to the heads, and they told Kalyinara of the prophecy again, and what Melissan's part was in it. Then, Balthazar teleported into the grove, and asked Kalyinara what was going on, and why there was a battle. Kalyinara said that they had been tricked by Melissan! Then, they both decided that they had to go to the throne. The Solar also came back and taught Kalyinara another lesson.

Kalyinara took on the ravager, and killed it. Now, all that is left is to take on Melissan.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 32
Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 19/20
Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 24
Faren- Fighter -> Thief - 7 -> 35
Kivan - Archer – 26
Deheriana – Fighter/Mage/Cleric – 15/15/16
Note: I figured out what CTD me the last time. It was Balthazar's Lunar Kick. So, instead of uninstalling Ascension again I cheated in some Charisma, so Balthazar would join the fight with Kalyinara. However, I am going to lower it back down to its original amount before I fight the Final Battle. Its not the best fix for this problem, but its better than nothing.

Kalyinara entered through the gateway, and was in the Throne of Bhaal. The first thing Kalyinara saw was Melissan. After talking for a while, Melissan summoned Irenicus and his sister Bodhi. Kalyinara ultimately killed them.

Kalyinara fought her way around three pools of monsters.

After that, Melissan summoned all the Siblings, including Sarevok. Kalyinara killed them all. Then it was Melissan's turn. However, Melissan was defeated instead.

Kalyinara - Feywarden of Corellon - 32 - In Avarandor with Xan.

Jaheira - Fighter/Totemic Druid - 19/20 - Disappeared

Imoen - Adventurer -> Mage - 15 -> 24 - Best mage ever with a Thieves guild in Neverwinter.

Faren- Fighter -> Thief - 7 -> 35 - Owns a bar in Waterdeep.

Kivan - Archer – 26 - Traveled around with Deheriana, and had children with her.

Deheriana – Fighter/Mage/Cleric – 15/15/16 - Look at Kivan's.

Reloads: Five, a lot more if you want to count the CTDs with Balthazar's Lunar Kick, and the random freeze up.
Note: I hate to ctrl+y Balthazar for the battle because his Lunar kick kept causing CTD. Oh, and a freeze up caused another CTD. Not sure if I should categorize this as a failed run, or just majorly glitchy, but still a success.
Character Note: Never using Deheriana again, I think. Her soundset is too loud whenever she gets hit or your click on her, and she seems to take center stage once you get her. Poor Kivan.
