Bioware *used* to be a company that moved onto new IP after virtually every title. Until ME, Baldur's Gate was the only game they ever released a direct sequel to.
Whilst I have no doubt that EA will keep producing games in the ME franchise well after ME3 - whether Bioware will be at the helm, and whether they will be RPGs or not, is another question entirely.
thats because they didnt really have their own IP. they would use other peoples, such as D&D for Baldur's gate.
the entire reason they dropped Kotor and gave it to obsidian was because they wanted their own sci-fi IP. so they made mass effect.
the reason they dropped the D&D license was because they wanted their own fantasy IP, so they made dragon age.
EA does not own mass effect, they dont own dragon age. they own bioware. while they COULD in theory rip it from them, i highly doubt they'd do so. as bioware is basically one of their top developers, they wouldnt ****** off everyone at bioware for a quick buck that'd kill a franchise.
