Hello everyone, i have a problem changing the display adapter in my configuration utility from the game Dragon Age 2. Before detailing the problem, I have looked for a similar problem shortly, but due to its rarity nature i didint look much. Allow me to continue with the template from the sticky.

1. What version of the game are you playing: physical disc v1.03
2. System Details
      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
           * Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU         920  @ 2.67GHz
           * RAM: 4GB
           * Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT / 1,00 GB / 258.96
                                         ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series / 1,00 GB/ 11.5
           * Sound Adapter: Altavoces (Realtek High Definition Audio) / 6.0.1.5859
      Configuration Utility | Platform Tab
           * Operating System: Windows 7
           * DirectX: DirectX 11 (Jun2010) or later

Now onto the issue, as you will notice if you read the specs, i use two video cards, one from ATI and the other from nvidia, each one connected to its own screen. This is very rare as most people remove the old graphic card as they buy a new one, and its even more rare because, well, they are from different companies, use different drivers, etc. Rare as it might be, it works perfectly fine with other games, even games also from EA (but not bioware) such as Crisys 2 or Dead Space 2.
I have tryed to solve this issue with official support, but the guy who had to take my issue couldnt have possibly helped me as the problem is beyond his reach through normal configuration. That said i have not moddified the game in any way (i might have to, sadly, if i inted it to work).
The problem is connected to the graphic card i want to use for gaming (ATI), and the one i dont, the ati one has directx 11 support, the nvidia one doesnt. I want to see the game as good as possible, so playing with the ati seems like the logical thing to do. The configuration utility allows you to change the display adapter, and as i load it it looks like this:

This is not the graphic card or screen i want to use for gaming, so i change it to the other one:
http://imageshack.us...200/step2l.jpg/
Whether or not i save, if i go to the summary, it looks like this after the change:
http://imageshack.us...835/step3p.jpg/
And as it can be seen, the configuration utility did not get the graphic card i told it to, it remained the same. If i set the game to attempt to use directx 11 if avaliable and then i try to boot the game, i get the following error which gives some hints of what information is it comparing to and where does the error come from.

Is there any way to tell the game to use the graphic card and its driver from the screen its told to use? the way i see it the problem comes from the configuration utility, not from the game itself, which makes it more worrying error, since bioware is using this configuration utility for all its games. I guess i could play dragon age 2 with my old card if there were no way to play with the ati as the computer is built now, but if that problem will persist, not only for me but for anyone else with this rare configuration, for future games from bioware, its really worth to be fixed in my humble opinion.

Thanks for taking the time reading this and trying to help me.

My best guess is that the drivers are where your problem most likely lies, but there also is usually a "Master" PCIe bus slot, not two that are equal to one another. The adapter you want to get the preferential notice has to be in that slot, I am pretty sure.

Hello everyone, I changed the order of the graphic cards as Gorath Alpha suggested (thanks! i also found out that the motherboard i use doesnt work as good with other slots as with the first one, so in any case, i might experience an improvement with other games), before the change the nvidia was the one closest to the CPU, which i assume is the first slot because on every list, the nvidia screen always appeard as the first one, and the ATI on the second. Now the ATI is on the first and the nvidia on the thrid slot (its on the third because the ATI card takes two spaces). The list of screens on the display menu from the configuration utility switched the order of the screens, and now on summary the display adapter is the ATI card, but it doesnt show the driver version. When i start the game, i get the very same error, so the game knows what version of the driver im using.
Other games are still working.

Hello everyone, i updated my nvidia drivers and now its running fine with directx 11 on the ATI. I dont get why its working now, since its not the graphic card the games uses, but i guess its not important right now, for me at least.
So thanks for the help to everyone who read and or replyed to the thread.
Should anyone care, the configuration utility didint change after the graphic card update, its still looking like the i described on the last post.

Great! Glad it's all sorted, but I agree, that fix hardly seem like it should've been what was needed.

Contact nVIDIA. It's their bad drivers and firmware, not the game's fault.

No.  Actually, it's a hardware issue with the PC/laptop manufacturer.  Contact their support line/forums.
