I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. While I really like Mass Effect, the Collector's Edition is 800 DKR here in denmark, which translates to roughly 150 US Dollars, which is pretty damn pricey. All the extra stuff is cool and all, but the thing that interests me the most is the additional character and mission. I've noticed that it says 'addtional' instead of 'exclusive', which makes me wonder: Is this extra squaddie and mission going to work like Zaeed did in ME2? Is every new copy of the game going to ship with a code to download this character, or what?

While I do understand that Bioware want's to keep this extra squadmate as a bit of a suprise, the Collectors Edition only ships in limited quantities, and I would honestly be a bit dissapointed if miss out on a character just because I ordered the 'wrong' version of the game.

tl;dr version: Is the extra character and mission exclusive to the Collector's Edition?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. :)

Wait it out and buy it when the price is low, it can often be cheaper to buy it from the UK or Sweden. I even once bought a game for Belgium. Search around and find the cheapest find, Denmark is the worst place to buy games.. :)

Personally I think the very idea of holding back extra characters and/or missions that are ready to go and already developed when the game ships is the very definition of extortion DLC.

Extra goodies like in-game items or collectables in the package for the truly dedicated fans ala what CD Projekt did with Witcher 2? Fair enough.

Forcing people to pay a premium to get the full game? Mildly contemptible in my humble opinion.

Companies want to make sure you buy a new copy of the game. But **** them, aside from ME, all my games are used or bought a year after their release. I don't sh-t money:ph34r:

I don't think you will miss out the character, it will probably work out like DA2. You get the exile prince for free when buying the signature edition but can buy separate if you have not. I agree that 150 usd is a bit too much, it's the same here in Sweden 899sek = 141usd. Hence, I recomend you to buy from an online shop which is in EU. Like play.com who is also ship free included.

Extra character? What extra character? You get one of those robotic dogs you fought in Mass Effect 2 and it only appears on the Normanday.

Also, where are people getting the Extra Mission thing from? The product details page on both EA's online store and GameStop don't mention anything about either.

Australia is right up there with Denmark in that regard.

I don't see where you're drawing the line.  Seems arbitrary to me; why are "additional in-game items or collectables [sic]" any less of an "extortion" than extra missions or characters?

Because one effects the story and characters and the other does not. Giving someone access to a couple of extra weapons if they're willing to pay a little more, as an example, doesn't mean that they don't get to see the full story/lore. Nor does offering them up some sort of collectable trinkets like chips in Fallout New Vegas or a bust of Geralt in The Witcher 2.

On the other hand, the story of Act 3 in DA2 would play out materially different without the Exiled Prince character around and making a certain threat as leverage to influence Hawke's actions.

An official word from a Bioware employee would be nice. It's not like your spoiling anything by tellings us ^_^

Scandenavia is a wonderful place to live, it's almost the least corrupt place in the world and we have dang good food.
You don't want to move here if you like low taxes and your groceries shouldn't cost too much, anything is expensive here, but everyone makes a decent living too.

Off topic, but i felt like i needed to answer. Posted Image

I hope we can buy this separately... I wouldn't mind if it came with the digital deluxe edition they'll have on origin either but that version doesn't list the squadmate, just the guns and appearances etc. Would be nice to know if we have to get the CE to not miss out, I really don't care about out of game stuff but don't want to miss actual game play and story.

So it seems that the Collector's edition is a Game exclusive here in Denmark. Guess I'll have to settle with the standard edition then and hope that this character and mission isn't exclusive to the CE.. god, I miss the good old gaming days where stuff like this wasn't an issue.

Unless the first-day DLC is made by a separate team with separate resources, which is what we've been told multiple times.

Though I guess you're probably just going to say LIES and leave your opinion unchanged.

It costs 999 SEK in Sweden for the 360/PS3-version, and 899 for the PC version, which is 155 and 139 dollar, respectively.

As far as I am aware that was actually a mistake.  If you check the Collector Edition topic and the blurb on the Mass Effect 3 site you will find there is no mention of those items now.  I even remember a post from Chris Priestly saying that the mission and character information was wrong.

I don't doubt that the N7 gear, robot dog, Alternate squad appearance pack and N7 hoodie will only be available to Collector Edition customers.  But I cannot see them making a mission and character exclusive to the CE version, at best it would be free and exclusvie to CE owners with it being released later and at a price for regular users.

Picture taken from the Game.uk website.

But you're right. making a character exclusive to the people who buys the CE is a silly idea. I just wanted to make sure that I'm not missing out :(

Don't do it if you want to keep up your gaming life, games are really expensive here, a new game costs 500 DKK
500 DKK = 95.80 USD

The text about it in the picture is what was referred to as being a mistake.

I think I'd just turn my back on BioWare if they did make a Character - a Prothean character at that - CE only. GAME is really screwing people over on the price anywhere they have it exclusive and I'm simply not prepared to pay almost DOUBLE the price of the game.

EDIT: If it weren't a mistake I mean.

Correction: He said the text wasn't supposed to be there, and that it should have been removed before the image was posted - not that it was wrong, per se.

You could either interpret that as:

1) The intended DLC is now baseline.
2) They want to keep it a secret.
3) It WAS actually wrong, and there is no (Prothean) squadmate and mission.
4) THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! PROTHY IS REAL! WE MUST SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYHURGUH-*gets pounced and muffled by men in black suits wearing identical shades who puts a bag over my head and throws me into the back of a black, nondescript van driving off into the horizon, never to be seen again*
