I was looking at this and felt like something was out of place. You know, you've got weapons and appearance packs, art book, OST, comic book, etc., and all of this sounds actually pretty cool... until you get to the dog part. First things first. Is it me or this sounds awfully similar to DA2's dog summon that came with The Black Emporium DLC?

With that out of the way comes question number two: do we actually need a dog? Does it make sense that in the middle of a war with the Reapers Shepard will have time to: a) build or procure the FENRIS mech somehow; and B) actually use it (unless it works the same way as DA2 and you can use it as a third companion). Something more along the lines of 343 Guilty Spark could be less obtrusive and more useful (it can fly!). Equip it with the oculus' laser tech (probably a downgraded version to keep it small) and you're good to go. What's more, you could even use it as a terminal to check messages, configure squad, etc., etc.

It's just that the word "dog" in a sci-fi game seems... odd, whether it's robotic or not. Just my two cents.

Probably just chills on the ship. A bit of a homage to the various pets that have been in sci-fi through the years (not to mention your own fish and miniature giant space hamster).

Okay, but if that's the case, if it just stands around aboard the Normandy SR-3 doing nothing, I'd hardly include it in the Collector's Edition ad.

I KNOW, I don't want a dog.

They should have given him a kitty cat.

Hey, you people kept asking for a body for EDI. I said it was a bad idea, but did anyone listen? Ohhhh no.

Well. Hope you're happy!

Good point. Maybe somebody with twitter can hit up the CH and see if its a combat pet or window dressing.

There's still much time for some horror to be yet unleased in that department.  Unless they use Tricia as her model...

Shepard is just trying to be like Gordon Freeman. Except Shepard's dog looks like a pup.

Why do the mercs in ME2 have Fenrir mechs?

They can get places others can't
They have a low profile
They fall below normal lines of sight
They are good at occupying enemies, allowing you to fire at them while they're distracted
They have many other such virtues.

I'm mostly worried that, if the mech works like your dog in DA][, it's sort of stepping on the toes of engineers.

I hope that there will be an option to turn it off.

My thoughts exactly. The only reason to have a non-combat dog on Normandy would be to give (Shepard and) the crew members the change to enjoy the psychological benefits of having a pet. For that, a real, live animal would be so much better than a mech, even if it is a varren.

I'd buy & play it, but they would contain too much talking for EA's execs to be comfortable with justifying the expenditure on.

Has anyone considered this: Shep actually has the option NOT to romance anyone and focus on the mission instead. Must be very, very, very lonely by the time ME3 starts... starving for some loyal, unconditional, simple love... Well, robo-dog might not be my first choice, but-- what is the miniature giant space hamster was the one casualty of the Suicide mission no one accounted? What if the cute lil ball of fluff is gone fo'evah and our hero is aaaall alone in his room, as the cold, metallic bulkheads start to press down on him, shrinking, moving ever closer, suffocating...

Khm.

OR it's simple marketing. Gotta love dogs. Of every form or shape, apparently.
