A non-romance Shepard should have a gun with a name...like Zaeed has Jesse.

During basic training, we were told to give our rifle's a name because while we were there, that was going to be the only "female" contact we'd have for the next 14-16 weeks lol.  I ended up "naming" mine Isis.  My point to this is that this is actually a cooler idea than what may or may not be implied.  IMO we should be able to have an option to actually name our weapons/rifles of choice.  Sure you can "roleplay" that feature.  But it would add so much more to the "roleplaying" aspect of that if you could actually create a name for it.

I too have a data file set aside that has no LI because as it's been said, that particular character has more on his mind than wanting to fall in love etc. what with the impending invasion on the way.  So yea, a really good idea that I vainly hope BioWare pays attention to.  Though Im pretty sure they wont, it still doesnt keep me from actually wanting it none the less.

I have a save where Miranda and I agreed to be friends for now, but this was said about a relationship "Maybe later, after we save the galaxy?"

I'm hoping with that Shepard it gets brought up towards the end of ME3.

In ME2, if you don't romance anyone, you get a little conversation with Miranda where she salutes you and Shepard gets to tell her what s/he thinks about the suicide mission they're about to embark on.
It's nice.
Though the one problem is that players not getting friendship content just because they didn't romance x is a large complaint.

Bumping. I know that people like the romances, but there are reasons to not romance the LIs, too.

I have a few single Sheps as well as ones in romances, and I noticed that the single Sheps get noticeably less content. It wasn't as obvious in conversations in DA because there was a more substantial friendship path to make up for it. ME2 really lacked that with some of the LIs. You couldn't get anywhere with some of them without romancing them.

And prior to the Omega4 relay, single Shep didn't really get any reflection time. The others all had a tender moment with their LI, or a poignant moment with the picture of their old LI. Single Shep had a brief (although sweet) conversation with Miranda, and then hello, we're at the relay. A conversation with Joker before the relay bit would have been nice, something like that. Or maybe a moment of thought in Shep's quarters.

"Do you think that the "no-romance" scenes are substantive, or do you think they're hollow and boring?"

i think the romances in mass effect games 1 and 2 have been a hollow and boring, and mean nothing, just a kiss some making out and thats it,
i know this is a romance less thread, just my opinion!

The pep-talk with Miranda happens with a ME1 LI as well.

I wasn't aware this was just for people 'loyal' to ME1 romances and no romances! I love this pep talk from Miri, from what I've seen of the ME2 romances on Youtube I'd rather have this...

I actually have a Shepard who romanced Kaidan in the first game, but didn't pursue romance in ME2. I'm thinking of having her remain 'unentangled' in ME3, since it seems to be most in keeping with the character concept I have for her. If I do, I hope that there is a satisfying story moment for her. Not everything is about romance, I hope that solo Shepard doesn't get short shrift in ME3.

I can support this thread.
Unfortunately, "no romance" seems to mean no friends or confidants. A totally isolated, and un-rewarding experience for both Shepard and the player.
I would enjoy time with Garrus, Jacob, or Dr. Chakwas (sp?), people who have been through the "meat grinder" with me. A few drinks. meaningful conversations, etc. Heck, even Miranda or Tali.
Too bad BioWare missed this option.

hopefully in ME3 no-romance will not mean no-more-conversation- for -you anymore.

I have 3 romanceless shepards at the moment, and I think 2 of them stay romanceless, so it would be nice if there were valid and varied conversation paths for them

Well, I seemed to bond alright with Miranda and Jacob without the romance aspect.

Even got a buddy hug out of Jacob! :o

And other crew members had similar relationships with my FemShep, so I would guess as long as you can talk to them, there is a friendship to be had.

This.

I want Shep to be a "father to his men" (her men/women/neuters, to be precise, but w/e). The romance stuff doesn't really make sense in a military game in any case, and portraying non-sexual relationships (and relationships between squad members) should really be a bigger priority for this series.

Jacob is the only one to be honest.  Garrus is always busy with his calibrations, Miranda keeps writing reports, Tali keeps fiddling with engines, Jack just out right tells me to f..k off, Thane is...  I forgot O_O, but I believe he's busy too.

there's barely any frienship dialogue at all, there is no legitimate path for professional relationship either.  at least avoiding romances is easier in ME2 without having to either resort to being an arse and then losing most dialogue options, or looking up the key phrases that allow you to preserve at least some dialogue and not sound like a douche :/

I know I don't want much (lawl)  but I'd like the same ammount of dialogue for friendship paths as there is for romance.  I don't want all dialogue options to cut off abruptly once you come to a fork of "yes to romance"  "no to romance"

can we?  please? :crying:

Heh....romances in the game are so addictive. "No romance in all three games " should be an achievement.

I have one femShep who didn't romance anyone in ME1 and ME2. She's come to have a deep but 100% platonic (and hopefully lasting) friendship with Miranda but of course that happens only in my head. It would be nice to be able to express friendship more. It needn't be the same amount of content as for romances, but it should be there.

Same here.

Although I think Samara had a good friendship conclusion. I don't know what it's like on maleShep playthrough for a friendship with Thane, but on femShep, I remember when he says that he likes your visits, or you're his first friend in a long time or something, femShep has the choice of initiating a romance, telling him to go make friends with the others, or telling him you're not friends. I imagine on maleShep the romance option is replaced by an affirmation of friendship.

It is still a space opera primarly, not Battlefield 2142 so IMO romances just fit it

Sure - I think it would be great if Shep had a guy/gal back home that he/she saw on shore leave, or something like that. It's just that the particular romances, with subordinates you have to make life-or-death decisions about, are a lot more problematic than the game seems to think they are. But I wouldn't be annoyed by this as much if the devs hadn't spent more time on the sexual relationships than the non-sexual relationships you can pursue with the crew.

It would absolutely never happen... but I want my Biotic Romance-less Shepard to train with Samara. My Shepard was a soldier to escape the slums of Earth - but his heart has never been in destruction and killing... despite a disturbing knack he has for it.

He longs for the time when he can rest - and secretly fears that it will only be once he dies (which is only compounded by the "silence" between his death and "rebirth" at the hands of Cerberus). He hopes that maybe - through inner peace he can achieve some balance in his life which has known only death.

Yeah - I know... put way too much thought into the "backstory" of a CRPG character.
