After posting about how it would suck if it came down to either you or your LI dying to save the galaxy (a la DA:O if you romanced Alistair and didn't get down with Morrigan), I started thinking about whether or not I'll bring my LI to the final showdown in Mass Effect 3.

On my first playthrough on ME 2 with my canon Shepard (male sentinel romancing Liara and then Tali), I thought about leaving certain characters behind at the suicide mission for their protection.  I'm not sure what I'll do in the final game.  I can't imagine not going in with my LI, but at the same time I'd hate to be put in a situation where they sacrifice themselves and I have no choice.

Just wondering what other people think on this issue?  When you go in for the final showdown in ME 3, are you going to have your LI by your side or will you leave them out of your party for their safety?

I have a tendency to keep my LI at my side at all times. And I am sure I will do the same in ME3. If something happens I don't want to happen, I will probably just reload my save and do something different. Or go with it and do another play through. I have plenty of files to import.

Only if they are in my go to team. You know what that is, we all have a go to team. The 2 squadies who you'd rather bring with you than anyone else.

In ME1 it was Garrus and Wrex for me. Worked out great. Could fight basically anything, open locks, fix stuff, break stuff, blow s**t up, etc...

In ME2 my go to team was Garrus and Grunt for my first run through. Unfortunately I had elected not to download Zaeed until after I had already beaten the game once, which resulted in a lot of my squadies dying Image IPB

That led me to always bring Miranda and Jack with me for the final showdown in ME2, just because having all that warp to toss around kept harbinger off my back Image IPB

In ME3, I'll bring my go to team with me for my first time, and in subsequent playthroughs I might pick my final showdown squad for reason like them being my LI, or just being funny. Image IPB

Fixed.

In all seriousness you raise a good point, maybe.

But that means Liara is doomed, she was with me all through ME1 LotSB (of course) and will be in ME3, but Jane might love her enough to sacrifice herself.......might Image IPB

That depends on If I believe we'll survive or not... I want a happy ending, but if it looks bad then I'll bring someone else, I don't want Garrus to die!

Yeah, I will. Thane was in my go-to team (along with my Shep's bff, Garrus) and if I can bring both, I'm taking both. If there's a chance we're all going to die, I'm bringing the people I consider family with me. My Shep trusts them both implicitly, and they both know what's at stake here.

Oh man, don't you know? You NEVER let your love-interest out of your sight. The moment you leave them behind, they get kidnapped or killed or brainwashed or eaten by bears.

Even if your love-interest meets a grizzly fate by your side, I guarantee that he or she would've been much worse off back at party camp. Seriously.

I think if BW foresees that as a possible action that a player may do, it may be harder to win and survive. I mean, in real life, the first instinct is protection even if that means you make a sacrifice. Having someone you care about getting shot at opposed to having someone you love in harms way can be dangerous. That could make for a very interesting test of wills against an enemy. If that could be implemented by BW, I think many will get their LI's killed but if you have to fight just a bit harder to make sure they survive, then that can be a spectacular ending. I just wonder, what kind of fight you'd be facing with an LI in your squad opposed to not having the LI? That's the question.

Unless my Shepard had the same/better abilities then her LI (read same 'class') I tended to work squad assignments to include them. While I did have a Go To squad in ME1, it was a lot more fluid in ME2.

As far as leaving them behind 'for their safety', how likely do you think it would be that you would leave the room hale and hearty after saying that to any LI? :P

Of course I'm bringing them! Each shep has one half of team dextro as their LI so they have to come! The only time mshep left Tali behind was because of her past association with the SB Kasumi was left behind for this reason too.

My rule of thumb is to save before each mission, try using my favorite squad (which usually includes the LI), and reload if I think I've screwed up badly enough. Them dying totally counts as screwing up badly enough.

So first playthrough I'll try having them on the team.

In the words of Ashley herself.....

Let's say your unit is in a tight spot. Some bug-eyed aliens are going to overrun the galaxy. They eat babies, smell bad, and don't have elbows. Nasty. You're told to guard the rear. To let everyone else escape, someone is ordered "hold this spot until we're gone." Someone has to be left behind. You think it's going to be someone you're sleeping with?

No, it won't be.

So, either leave your LI on the ship or just don't let them get killed.

You had a chance to kill your LI in ME1 and 2, if you didnt then make the same in part 3.

if its you or them, its your call. I will pick them, in case of DLC.

I always bring Miranda with me on missions. ME3 will be the same (assuming she's perm, if not, I have files from ME1 with Ash). I figure if one of us dies, the other one should too.

I've gotta have my LI/ human battle tank at my side during the final showdown. Ashley also happens be half of my go to team. (Ashley/Wrex alt. Garrus)

So in ME2 it was a lot of Garrus/ Grunt or Garrus/Jack. alt Samara (one of them if I didn't feel like mixing it up)

Anyways I'm excited Ash will be back on the squad for ME3 (the return of my ME1 go to team is 9 months away!) But yeah my LI has definetly got to be on the last mission with me. (Its like a rule.)

I hate to say it but my LI usually stays on the ship making victory PB&J's for Garrus, Wrex/Grunt, and myself for when we return from kicking ass.

In ME2 I was rewarded with bringing the Tech & CQB expert along with the slide-&-handgrab scene, and then was hauled into the Normandy as if she was returning the favour. Can't argue with results (and good skillz is a nice extra).

Ooo...that's harsh.  Might seem sappy, but I'm not sure I could let any of my squad members die for me...especially my LI.  Like someone else said above, they're Shep's family.

Shouldn't all the DLC be pre-showdown anyway since this is the last installment in a trilogy?  Unless it's sentimental interaction with characters I want my DLC to be prior to the big one.

Tali and Jacob will always be my team, from now to the bitter end. Beat insanity with this pair and my Vanguard Shep, we are unstopable.

It's not my choice. I'm sure I won't be able to keep Garrus away from Shepard. He's going to be with her until the end.

I'll definately take Tali (or Liara, in case of my future FemShep) to the final battle, as I've always done in ME2 too. Considered what we're going to face, I wanna be sure that at least, if I'll screw the final mission as I did the first time with the SM, that my Shepard can die in her arms or vice-versa.

Of course I will. It could be dangerous, but it's all been dangerous from the start. Granted, not for everyone like the Virmire incident, but the suicide run in ME2 is way more epic in comparison to me. I can only speculate how the last part of this madness will unfold for Shepard, I assume it will be about 10x crazier than ME2, but the LI always stays with me.

I'll take the risk.

Well I'd prefer to keep my LI by my side, to make sure they don't go off and get killed. It's easier when they're beside you and you aren't worrying about what they're doing.

The last time I left an LI out of my sight, he was kidnapped.
