OK, first of all, this is not supposed to be a rant thread or anything like that.
I was just wandering why earth is rather empty when Shep and Anderson make their way to the Normandy.
We don't know how they came into that situation or what happened immediately before the start of the demo but it looks like this is the beginning of the reaper invasion. It aslo looks like we are in a rather huge city. So where are all the civilians that one would expect to run around in panic in such a situation?
THe fall of earth trailer and the invasion trailer show some very nice scenes in that regard but the only other living soul the Shep meets in the demo is the little boy in the air shaft. While we get a great view of rather large terrain, there seems to be no one around.
Ok, there are two husks that might have been humans (rest are battarians I think) and the odd gunship and shuttle crashes but no actual people. I think this scene would have even been more intense if we saw screaming civilians beeing killed or huskified.
I realize there are engine constraints but even seeing it in the distance would have a positive effect.
Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great and powerful demo but that is something that struck me as odd and I hope there is either a plot reason for this or it will be improved before the game comes out.
Why is earth so empty in the e3 demo?

Based on the scene that was in the demo, most likely killed from the reapers/caught and died in the destroyed buildings. Some were probably evacuated as well in the blue sky vehicles we see the reapers shooting down.Plus with all the husks/cannibals/etc running around they probably killed a few off also.

The demo was just a basic build that was used to show at E3, not the overall end product.
Now that i said that, i too hope to see more civilians.

The civilians are in all likelyhood either dead, or husks.

Well, if I were a civilian on Earth when the giant alien spaceships appear in the sky and start blowing things right the **** up, I probably wouldn't be running around outside with all of the cyber-zombies. I'd probably get as far below ground and out of sight as possible. That's just me, though.

Well, I hope it's just because the demo is not finished, too.
If this is just the beginning of the invasion, than they would have been really fast with the evacuation (earth population is about 11.5 billion people after all).
If they are all huskified, why aren't Shep and Anderson swarmed by husks?
I just think it would make for a very intense experience to have more "human" chaos going on around you.
Look e.g. at movies like War of the Worlds (I hate the movie but it did capture the panic and chaos very well).

I got that feeling just by watching the E3 demo
