Can not Proceed to Mission 2

PC store bought box patched to v1.02
PC exceeds min specs.

The game runs fine however after the first mission briefing I cannot proceed.

After the first meeting with the Illusive Man, I exit the level at the dock door to board the normandy SR2 for the first time. I get to the mission summary screen. When I press exit the screen goes black and I can hear by the sound effects I'm still back in the room with Jacob and Miranda. What is going on? I can not find any other posts with this problem... I did have the Steam ME2 demo installed previously is this the problem?

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Ok got me game registered in my profile

Game Version: Mass Effect 2 v1.02

System Details:

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Clock Speed: 2994 MHz

Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
VRAM: 896 MB
Driver Verison: Blank in ME2 Config Utility - Is actually: 266.58
Sound Adapter: Speakers (3- Logitech G35 Headset)
Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later

What is my problem:

No, only thing I can think of is I had Steam Demo installed prior to retail box version. I unistalled Steam version before installing retail box version.

When you uninstalled the Steam demo, did it give you the option of keeping your saves and settings? It does it when you uninstal the full game, but dont know if the option will be included with teh demo. If it did ask, what did you say?
The mission summary screen, is that for Freedoms Progress, or for the Lazarus Project station?

It did not give me any options that I recall when I uninstalled the steam game.

After Lazarus Project Station. I'm unable to proceed to Freedoms Progress Level.

Uninstall the game, the browse through to the following folders and delete any entries you find in relation to ME2 or the ME2 demo.
My Documents\\Bioware\\
Program Files\\Bioware\\

Then use a program such as CCleaner or Glary utilities to search through the registry and clean up any invalid entries it has pointing towards the ME2 demo.

Reinstall and patch.

Great more problems. now when I go the Afterlife club there is no floor in the club.

If I try to go fight archangel the screen goes black and the mission doesn't actually proceed. I'm stuck in the dark, still at the dock. Is the game this buggy for everyone?

Sounds like a glitch with the video drivers. Newer drivers often have tweaks designed to work with newer games, and can often leave older games such as ME/ME2 with some bugs.
Uninstall your current drivers, and try one of these, depending on which version of Windows you have, 32 or 64 bit.

Tried the win 7 64bit driver. Did not the fix the issue. I Still can't proceed.
