I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who "bonds", for the lack of a better term, with his equipment. My main Warden proudly carried the Shield of Highever trough the entirety of Origins, and most of Awakening, despite there being much better alternatives. It's a big thing of mine in RPGs. No matter how outdated my favorite equipment is, I still keep it.
That said, I disliked that most equipment in DA2 had pernament stats. Origins system wasn't perfect, but at the very least, you could bring up the tier of many weapons and armors. DA2 had none of that. It did have some items that leveled with he player, but it still was rather lackluster. Staff of Parthalan, which I really liked, became nearly useless some time early in Act 2. For weapons such as SoP, with rich lore surrounding them, I just find it wasteful.
What I ask for, is a crafting system, such as trough smiths, to keep our favorite junk up to date. Leveling with the player felt a bit cheap and runes don't really do much to bring the Stonehammer set close to the Champion's. The system should be reasonably priced and offer us several areas to upgrade, such as armor, health, magic & physical resistances, attack, defense, crit. chance, and the like. Not sure about limitations (limited number of upgrade slots perhaps?), but it should at least allow those of us who like their old equipment, to bring it closer to the level of the current stuff. You wouldn't be able to make the Stonehammer set exceed the Champion's set, for example, but it should be a bit closer in terms of overall quality if you upgrade it right.
That's all I have to say for now. Comment away!
