Private Messaging Problem

Hi,

At first I thought it was just a fluke, but I've finally decided the forums hate me for some reason. When I write private messages to other users they are frequently truncated and half the message, mostly the middle, is lost. It can be plainly seen in my sent messages box. It happens when I initiate the message, it happens when I reply to a message, it happens in Firefox and Internet Explorer. I can't figure out what's causing it.

Any ideas from the forum moderators?

EDIT: Solved. The problem lies with the < and > keys. For some reason it looks like a broken(?) version of HTML is in effect in PMs, so my use of certain smilies has been destroying my private messages. Long and the short, don't use >.< smilies :P

Do you think that length has anything to do with it?

Sometimes I type up a message and it gets deleted. Really sucks. I have to remind myself to cntrl +c. Another thing I hate is you can't send messages one after another...it makes you wait like a minute.

This crap only starting happening recently, like around the same time the site started logging everyone out all the time.

About the deleted PMs the moment you post... The same thing happens to comments on posts (in the Recent Activity page and similar pages). I was talking about that to John Epler a while ago and he said he had the same issue (although he didn't mention the PMs) and said that he would contact the site techies about it. These seem to be issues many people have.

I've seen the same issue. So far it's been fairly intermittent and there has not been a discernible pattern to it.

@AFW: I don't see a logical reason why length would be an issue, and my reason for saying this is that I've seen messages much longer than mine come to me without a hitch. I've not seen single line messages go astray, but I just dunno. :/

Nice to see I'm not the only one seeing stuff like this though.

I do not receive any emails from Bioware, they stopped working about 5 months ago so any thread i join i don’t get any emails, have to manually check.

I get logged out of Bioware forums all the time and have to log back in, my account was also broken in to yesterday and had to change my password.

I asked to try to find out if it could be circumvented for the time being. It looks like it can't. I think the issue you've described is definitely important enough for BW to look into.

I've been circumventing it by emailing my private messages if they don't work via the boards :P

Thanks for asking though :)

I wonder if there is news about it, because these are very annoying bugs.

I hit send a couple of times and the reply hasnt been sent even though it tells me it has. Fortunately they were only small pm's.

For my experience I put it down to the log out bug and perhaps that I got logged out as it was sending. May not be though. Just speculating that a known bug is causing other issues too.

I havent had the issue the OP has mentioned though, thats sounds really annoying

I use them a lot. And everything in between two of them gets eaten.

Edit: This broken HTML is also in effect in Groups, so sending messages in Group forums here on BSN will bork if you type <stuff like this, which will get deleted>. <i>italics</i> and <b>bolds</b> will not work, and the <tags> will be deleted. So it looks as though ANY text between <-- these chaps --> will vanish into the void.

That makes a fair amount of sense. Thank you!

This may be a problem with the site not updating right away. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the post/comment to appear. If the post/message/comment does not appear at all, EVER (ie. within 15 minutes), then that is a problem I'm not familiar with.
