While I am excited about the use of kinect I feel that there is an application that has been overlooked. We could use the kinect to scan faces/heads for our Shepards. I like to have variation among my Shepards but I always like to have one that looks like me. I just can never get it quite right. Too bad It could have worked if kinect was used that way.
Kinect potential wasted

I'm Glad They're only using it for Voice commands... I don't believe in 'motion' Gaming.
I don't plan on buying Kinect.

I am not excited for Kinect, never will be. But I don't have to use it, and that is fine.
I agree, THUG did it n the PS2 with the Eye Toy, why can't Bioware?

that would be awesome, but it's not enough reason to buy kinect. when they come out with full virtual reality gaming systems that let me see how I handle myself in combat, I'll start springing for this stuff.

I don't think I would trust any developer to do it properly, especially not with Mass Effect's focus on facial animations and quality cinematics. It would've been too risky.

There's a video out that was basically a chat between Notch (head guy for Minecraft) and Todd Howard (head guy for Skyrim). Notch said that Microsoft was really pushing Kinect development. And Todd... he responded in a somewhat dismissive and disgruntled way: "Yeah, we're aware of that."
The way ME3 uses Kinect may have been a way to make Microsoft STFU at them over Kinect.

Ughh. Enough with the Kinect crap. Isn't it bad enough they're already using that overpriced gimmick? Don't get me wrong, as a party piece it can be quite fun, but it should be left out of serious gaming. We don't need it, a joypad is already perfect.

Ah yes, voice and motion commands. A great concept but also a great way to muddle input commands and make a game harder or a player more frustrated with a game.

lol anybody ofyou people actually read what the OP wrote before trashing Kinect? He isnt talking about the controls.
ontop:
I think thats a great idea...however OP I think the problem with that is that it would be a way to "unique" feature only available to a to small group of the costumers.

Oh... this thread had my name on it the moment it was created.

On a serious note, I don't think it would work out too well. While the Kinect can scan your face, you'd then have to covert that image into something that the engine can a) understand and
render properly into the game.
Not so much an issue if you just want to copy and paste your face onto the game, you'd basically be having a blank spot where Shep's head is supposed to be with your recorded face superimposed over it. That would look extremely amateurish and would be more at home with a fun family sports game and not a cinematic third person shooter. Which leads to the next problem - cinematics.
So unless you're able to find a way for the Unreal 3 Engine to properly process and handle scans and imagery of your face, it won't work. It's probably possible, if given enough time and effort. But is the time and effort worth it, especially if it comes at the cost of other features?
Simple answer is no.

Oh please, it was all in the sake of humor. I think the Kinect does have alot of potential.

Kinect? People like that crap? Ugh, just what I like in a game, flailing my arms around like a retard.
The only potential kinect has is prolonging the life of ancient obsolete console hardware so we're stuck with crappy games for the next few years.

I dont think the facial customization is up to par for kinect to scan our faces. Its a good idea and I think it should be something bioware should tinker with in future games, I just don't think they will spend a huge amount of time creating the tech for Me3.
