I'm a little worried after hearing that "Man Shepard" will be willing to board other dude's decks in Mass Effect 3.

Not that I want to deprive some dude on dude action for those who are into that kind of thing. It's just, after playing Dragon Age 2 and experiencing Ander's painfully awkward advances, I'm more excited for him to be a cool character that I can blast Aliens with, and then expect to crack open a cool one and brag about how awsome we are.  I mean come on!  We're both Specters now.

I just hope that I can make my intentions clear to Kaiden from an early point in the game, and be bro's that have some kind of sense of humor and badass bond.  Heck, let's give Kaiden a chick!  Give me a sidequest where I play wingman to hook my best friend up!

Ander's and I would slay a dragon, only for him to ask me about my feelings.  All the coolness of slaying a rowdy beast went out the window when he confesses his feelings for me, and wines about his problems like a girl.

There are plenty of ladies in Mass Effect that want Shepard's nuts already, but Shepard needs a bro for bro time.  Kaiden can fill that void in Shepards epic tale!  Anybody else feel this way?

Casey confirmed s/s romances are reactive to how you interact with the characters.

twitter.com/#!/CaseyDHudson/status/69833443067969536

Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.

So unless you tell Kaidan how much you appreciate his muscular chest, he won't confess anything to you since he thinks you're straight (it's part of ME1 story already).

That's one, two. Even if he confessed anything to you, couldn't you just turn him down and stick to 'bros only' zone? I turned down Ashely but that didn't stop my Shep from being friends with her.

Third, it's KaidAn. Not KaidEn. "Bros" should know such things/

Yeah, just don't tell him you like the way his rear looks in that armor, and you should be fine.

It was pretty obvious in DA2, as well, even without the heart.

Totally, S/S romance is fine, that's why they made the option, but you need a system that's a step up from ME2 where stopping (or avoiding) advances from teammates was a "terminate communication" hint. But I can imagine having the option to be "friends only" for the people who want it as well, all relationships with the crew are already based on loyalty, just take it a little higher and make them individualized friends. Imagine the diversity of activities your squaddies can do with Shepard one-on-one, or even some reminiscing with the original crew. It would be a nice step to building deeper connections to the characters we already have.

This is all unlikely, since war is no time to be living in the past, but maybe some stuff like playing some Skyllian Five with the engine deck crew was in ME2. Then maybe save the other bigger stuff for a positive epilogue or something like that.

Back on topic, I agree. *ahem*

I dont want my bros Garrus, Jacob, or Thane coming on to me in ME3 because Bioware told them to come out of the non existent closet

I wouldn't mind. I just know I wouldn't go that route with my male Sheps because Kaidan is dead. :tom:

Anyway, it's possible that certain characters could have a re-evaluation of their views on things like sexuality. That tends to happen IRL and it'd be a convenient explanation for Bioware.

As for Shepard's ideas, well, that's up to you, big player dude.

Didn't you read Casey's tweet I quoted? Unless you hit on them first they won't come on you, not to mention with Kaidan that wouldn't happen anyway since he thinks Shep is straight.

Also, does this mean new guys automatically won't be your bros because they could be bi/gay?

The devs said they were working on better friendship paths, and Bioware's said that they won't repeat the Anders thing, so I do believe that means they've gotten the hint as far as ninjamances.

Still, a better idea would be to make an anti-accidental romance topic in general. I think that would be received better than just asking whether Kaidan will hit on you.

Honestly, I really don't think it will happen because the romanceable males in ME2 were blindingly obvious: Thane was trigged by "I want you" (yes, that was the exact words on the dialogue wheel), and Garrus's was triggered by, more or less, "let's work off stress together" after the conversation about him "working off stress" with a female turian. Haven't tried Jacob's yet, though.

Bioware has a horrible track record in seeing the difference between friendly conversation and flirting so that tweet doesnt give me any assurance.

If you pick the "I want you" option, it would be your own darn fault for getting romanced by Thane.

If you pick the "let's work off stress" option right after Garrus tells a story about working off stress with a female turian through sparring and sex, then it is your own darn fault. In fact, Garrus doesn't even get it and you have to tell him outright you mean sex, not sparring.

That's the romance triggers for those two. I doubt Bioware will suddenly make them ninja you in ME3.

Easy, I look at this and then proceed to never talk to her unless its about upgrades or her loyalty mission.

Anders is the only love interest in Dragon Age 2 that will actually initiate romances with the player character no matter what gender they are. You have to turn him down at the very first opportunity otherwise you get rivalry points...

And I hope people that want to be just brosefs with Kaidan will easibly be able to have that relationship, but I also hope that mansheps that want a romance with Kaidan are given the option.

Nice. Gotta love the offensive gender-stereotyping.

Seriously, did you even think before typing that?

There better be clear 'romance indicators' implemented in the dialogue wheel this time, or simply an option to turn certain romances off, as I really don't suddenly want to get hit on by Kaidan, Garrus, Thane or Jacob.

And on the topic of ninjamancing, how do you avoid Ashley's initial romance trigger, the one that leads to the confrontation with Liara?

What, are people really just ASSUMING Kaidan's  suddenly going to swing both ways now? Really? Funny, I don't recall living under a rock for the past month... :?

A few things.

1. Kaidan
2. We don't know if Kaidan is a s/s romance option yet.
3. Even if he were, it would be optional and reactive to player responses.
4. Bioware's writers are well aware of the criticism over the Anders-initiated romance.
5. In all likelihood they won't be repeating the NPC-initiated romance
6. Even if they did, it's one dialogue option to decline it. Out of a 40-hour game. If you have a problem with one line in a 40 hour action-RPG then I suggest re-evaluate your priorities.

7. Players have had to reject romantic advances left right and centre if they had created a lesbian or gay Shepard. Wading through five or six separate romance options and having to reject them isn't ideal.
