A toggle for s/s filter i think would be the best option. A lot of straight players would rather avoid any and all awkward situations that would lead to male ****** interactions. The choice is yours if you want it in or not, and its much more convenient to just have an option to block it out. I really don't see all the hate on that option except to avoid hurting the feelings of a segment of the fan base.

Apart from the ludicrousness of filtering optional content...

It's a PR nightmare.

Bioware won't do it. They wouldn't even consider it. It's fine to sit here in a forum and discuss seriously the possibility of a filter, yean, fine -

But in the real world? With marketing and PR and media and attitudes?

They'd be crucified. "Game offers filter for same-sex content" "Game offers segregated paths for gay and straight players" "Game has 'gay mode'"

With all due respect, it is entirely not the best option, nor is it realistic.

People wanting a filter to protect them from unwanted advances might want to think about players who have had to endure two games' worth of unwanted advances without complaining

Ignore the content. Two or three lines in forty hours. It's miniscule.

Indeed. Should homosexual players be given a "straight filter" instead so they don't get hit on and have awkward scenarios?

Of course they damn well shouldn't, the whole concept of filtering optional game content is utterly ridiculous. Hell, seeing as I don't like being sworn at by NPC's Mass Effect 2 should have had a "No Jack filter"... (I actually don't care about being sworn at by a computer ame character for the record.)

Some people really are insecure with their sexualities aren't they...

I'm not the one arguing for a filter because I can't deal with Ashley, Liara, Shiala, Tali, Miranda, Jack, Shaira and Gianna Parasini all throwing themselves at Shepard's feet.

It's easy enough to politely decline (well, except when Gianna gets all kissy-kissy without asking). It's not exactly fun, but I'm not arguing for a filter for optional content.

The point is - I can't for the life of me work out why people find even the barest hint of s/s content in their games so utterly terrifying.

It's literally like four lines. Out of tens of thousands. Just pick the one that isn't dripping with innuendo.

I have this annoying tendency of pressing "X" during conversations...which often leads to me saying things I normally wouldn't... and I really don't want my shep to go gay and me not realize it till the steamy cutscene.

haha it really sounds like your problem and not biowares.

in all fairness, I want this for all potential LIs.  I didn't even like the awkwardness with Tali when I had no intention of romancing her.  I wished she wasn't attracted to Shepard in the first place.

I'm being completely serious. it might result in a broken xbox with me leaping at the power button in a panic.

That's a tad melodramatic.

I'd say that it's kinda sorta maybe your fault for skipping conversations, but it's a problem with Bioware's games generally.

It's fair to say, though, that they've learnt their lesson from a lot of criticism (some of it undeserved) over the ninjamances in ME/ME2/DA2, and in particular the Anders romance.

I doubt we'll see anything similar in ME3. From everything I've been reading (especially the writers' Twitter feeds) they're well aware of the issue.

But seriously, just make sure you read the wheel options when talking to male characters...

... I don't think anyone wants to be indirectly responsible for property damage

I hope they don't make Kaidan bi or gay or whatever. I have nothing against those people but I just don't think Kaidan should be gay or bi. Only new characters should be gay or bi IMO.

I do not agree. I don't think all old characters should "come out" but some of them I can see it as plausible. To be honest I always felt that Kaidan seemed more suited as a gay character, and after seeing the modded version of Mass Effect with Ash/Femshep I can see Ash as a bisexual character.

The others I cannot see it as likely. Garrus and Thane most certainly do not come across as having any homosexual tendencies, nor do Miranda or Jack in particular. Tali seems like she could based upon how a lot of the "hinting dialogue" about how she feels about Shepard still exists for a femshep.

If one or two characters turned out to be Bi, it wouldn't be unrealistic, but if all of them do it will be ridiculous.

There's a guide in the ME1 forums.

Personally, I think if Kaidan were bi it might explain much to me. Not meaning that as an insult, but my main complaint about his character was his indecisiveness. The only time he gets around that is Virmire, which is one of the main reasons I let him make the sacrifice. Its his moment.

But I'll admit I have no horse in this race. If he's straight or Bi, it won't change any of my playthroughs or my feelings on him.

just talk to all your squad mates between missions and don't pick anything that seems like it would lead to a romance, plus it's not that hard to just go back and say you want to be friends...i don't see what the big deal is.

in me1 my femshep was just being nice to ash (i'm always the paragon) and she got all flirty and then i just chose the blandest option or whatever so as not to pursue it...no damage done + even if there was this in no way does anything that affects the game play or missions.

in me2 i decided to romance garrus, but met thane and told thane i had feelings for him, so of course i had to go back to garrus and be all i respect you too much to mess up our friendship...once again crisis averted.

Ash isn't a romance option for Femshep in ME1... sadly.

Didn't you read Casey's tweet I quoted? Unless you hit on them first they won't come on you, not to mention with Kaidan that wouldn't happen anyway since he thinks Shep is straight.
Also, does this mean new guys automatically won't be your bros because they could be bi/gay?

Where in ME1 does KaidAn get THAT idea? IF you save him on Virmire during the deBRIEFing, Shepard can tell KaidAn that "I chose to save YOU (over ashley)!" Now is that is not a 'hint' I don't know what is.

As long as the characters don't clam up and go into endless calibrations when I choose to not go down the romance path, I'm good.

Isn't the wording something along the lines of "I just couldn't bear losing you" regardless of who you end up saving?

Yeah.

I think they're going with full-on friendship paths this time around, which is badass. I don't think we have anything to worry about on that front.

The way I see it any character that hasn't shown any inclanation of being bi or what not should probably stay the same as they were. But hey I've got no issue with retcons(Unless Bioware pulls a D.C comics... then I have issues) but an easy way to not have to deal with same sex mances is by I dunno...

Don't initiate one and they wont make a pass at you? Either way none of this effects me, people do what you want and don't complain about it becuase it doesn't fit your particular preferance.

I'm a little worried after hearing that "Man Shepard" will be willing to board other dude's decks in Mass Effect 3.

Not that I want to deprive some dude on dude action for those who are into that kind of thing. It's just, after playing Dragon Age 2 and experiencing Ander's painfully awkward advances, I'm more excited for him to be a cool character that I can blast Aliens with, and then expect to crack open a cool one and brag about how awsome we are.  I mean come on!  We're both Specters now.

This sounds like something you'd do with Ashley,  not Kaidan...  just saying.
