On Omega you can meet this batarian madman who preaches about the infidelity and inferiority of humans. While his attitude is nothing new, he mentions several things of interest. (Full speech here)

1. Lesser races

"The Protheans cast off the lesser races: the krogan, the vorcha, and the humans. "And so they dwelled in filth, on worlds made of dirt and feces, and there they lay until they stumbled into the skies." The lesser races will be our downfall! "

It is interesting, that batarians assume that the Protheans have "chosen" them among other alien races to be the superior nations. It might be just a propaganda move, stating that the batarians have a special link towards Protheans, however unlikely it sounds.

2. Reapers

""Let none in my sight continue to live, lest their impurity displease me." The Word is clear on this, friends. Humans are the hands of the Reapers, here to commit the galaxy to ruin!”

Humans, the little helpers of Reapers? Such a thing would appear to many people logical after the Arrival incident, with Shepard the evil Destroyer of a star system. Nobody cares that he warned before about the Reapers, all the smart batarians know that he's just trying to fool us all.

3. The Word

"The Word is clear.”

"Draw your weapons for the Word, or face its terrible wrath!”

"The Word makes its demands, and it demands obedience!”

Look like the Bible of the batarian Hegemony. It seems to be notorious, made by fanatics for fanatics. Is it how people think on the batarian worlds about humans and Reapers?

-------

The Word's goal is to ignite hatred and to raise a generation of soldiers who will fight the humans. Nothing new, but I don't think it's just the batarian leadership behind it. If the Reaper introduce themselves as the ancient Protheans who came back to purify the world, the batarians would likely believe it. Therefore, it would make Shepard the "hand of the Reapers", the person who needs to die by all cost.

Batarians as an indoctrinated race seem to be a likely foe in ME3. Personally, I think we gonna have to liberate them and to convince at least a part of them to fight the real threat.

Yep, this statement isn't biased at all. <_<

As far as I can tell the Word seems more like a Scientology sort of group. The funny part is they actually recognize the reapers as a threat unlike most of the galaxy.

Yeah, but they consider humans to be a part of the problem. They're no use to us if they launch an attack during the Reaper invasion.

True, but if they see the reapers as a force of armageddon, they might be more concerned about that threat. I'd say there is 50-50 chance they would fight against the reapers, or join them hoping they show mercy.

Interesting theory.

Personally, I hope we get some way to get the batarians on our side. I don't think humanity is ever going to be able to be friends with them, but fighting the Reapers together (Leviathan of Dis, anyone?) would be a step forward.

It was because of this guy that was hoping the Alliance would turn out to be the badguys in ME3.
