Only if it's on cable (ie. HBO) and is given proper time and resources. It could be something special if the writing is equivalent to that of the new "Game of Thrones" or "Boardwalk Empire", for instance.

My sentiments exactly! It would be horrible if it was some cheasy lowbudget thing.

I've been saying that HBO is the only company I would trust with a Mass Effect for a while. I'd love to see it, and I would want to see what they'd do with Shepard's story. People are just going to have to get over the fact that you can't tell every version of the story in a non-video game format. Choices would have to be made regarding the story, and as far as a series went, that would be considered (gasp) "cannon". Story telling on tv, and in all passive media, possesses inherent structures and limitations by its very nature that games, as interactive entertainment, are not bound to.

If the community can look past their own stubbornness regarding "their" Shepard and accept that a single narrative be chosen to fit the medium, then Bioware might make moves in that direction.

I'd like to see HBO pull a Game of Thrones with this. Could be awesome.

Agreed.  I think the Mass Effect universe is awesome and I'd love to see more of it, but let's keep Shepard and his gang as game characters.

I say Starz, they did amazing work with Spartacus (IMO) and Id be interested to see what they could do with a sci-fi setting and an established franchise.

I think a tv show would work better than a movie. There's no way you could fit Eden Prime, Therum, Feros, Noveria, Virmire, and Ilos into one movie. But give each one its own episode in a tv show? That would work.

ME2 is even worse suited for a movie. The whole "building a team" arch would be relegated to a quick montage. But as a TV show, it could be pulled off.

The only problem is, all the good sci fi shows get canceled a season or two in.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a season or two of the series if it was done by the same people who did Farscape. (or, sure, Joss Wedon - though I don't know if I trust him with aliens ... they might all end up looking like Buffy monsters)

"The only problem is, all the good sci fi shows get canceled a season or two in."

This is because the Sci Fi genre is hellishly expensive to produce. The use of practical effects can reduce the cost, but that is self limiting. I think that an animated series could be done cost effectively, but TV is a far cry from a video game and the movies have not even been released to gauge audience interest in the story yet.

To do the Mass Effect Universe justice a TV Series would have to be on a channel like HBO's Game of Thrones. After all ME get's a an M-Rating. I would call it "The Citadel". It could take place 10 to 15 years before Commander Shepard becomes the First Human Spectre. This may sound strange but one of the things that I found so troubling about the Novels: Mass Effect: Ascension and Retribution, Is that they were still so good, even though no Spectre was involved.Even though Commander Shepard was not in it.So that bolds well for a TV Series that takes place Pre-Battle of the Citadel ;)

You would honestly need something that in terms of production look would have to be a cross between Farscape(creatures) and Babylon 5, no joke.

It would be an interesting approach but I'd be concerned a little, since its kinda hard to transfer over from one media to another. If it had the right budget and was made like a HBO, Showtime, ect. series then yeah im all for it then. But writing a storyline for a game series and writing a storyline for a TV series involves two different approaches.

It would be interesting to see if they could pull it off.

I've always thought that a TV series would suit this franchise.

Ben Browder to play John Shepard? lol.
Am I wrong in saying that Farscape and ME are similar???

Goddamn, I love how much attention Farscape gets here. Heck yes.

Anyway, methinks I'll need to post my personal spin on the storyline treatment for a potential television series again later. This thread recently got necro'd and I'm sad to see I never posted it here. All the other threads on this had it. Ah well.

If its well directed and has good effects, a TV series will be much better. They could actually make is about the game. The story is too much for one movie anyway.

Indeed.

He did wind up playing a big role in the franchise soon thereafter though, as Cameron Mitchell in the last two seasons (and two follow-up TV movies) of SG-1.

I agree, a TV series would be a better idea for an expasion of the franchise. Bioware says that Mass Effect 3 would be the end of Shepard's arc, but it's not the end of ME universe. The story could be expanded chronologically with new games, novels, tv series, etc.

What about an animation, like Clone Wars?
