I think what she's trying to say is that women who use the term tend to be egomaniacs. I went on a date with a "gamer girl" who the whole time was talking about how much she has to offer and how she could meet another guy in a day because she's a gamer girl and soooo much cooler than other girls. They use the term "gamer girl" to say they're superiour to not only other gamers, but other girls as well.

haha. You let her get away with that? You should have pointed to a random guy wherever you guys were and said go meet that guy and get his number. Then you would have been able to enjoy it as she went from overconfident to unconfident in the blink of an eye.

Heh, well I think I sorta know what is being meant here. I saw this a lot when I still played WoW. Some girls pretty much told the group the minute they joined it that they are a "gamer girl". Then they expected special treatment in the group due to their gender. I loathed this sooooooo much.

Playing games has always been a part of my life so I cba to make a big deal out of it. And it most certainly is not what has made guys interested in me in the past. This one guy for starters was outright freaked out when I told him what I do during most of my free time.

It's funny when they say "Hey a girl" just before their ass gets no-scoped.

Oh man same here. Can't stand it. Granted the chick was a good healer but in an mmo it's about playing with friends and she was not one.

What annoys me is that if I'm playing Call of Duty or whatever and a girl joins the lobby she announces it just to make sure everyone knows so that she might have some attention.

If I ever play online, I don't ever let people know I'm a girl. I want to avoid all the sexism, it's just silly. Plus, I'm a redhead...I tend to go ape **** when people start insulting me just because of my gender.

But I just love video games. The art, the stories, characters - it's an artform, and it is the most popular form of entertainment. Also...it's the only form of entertainment that punishes you if you're not good at it. XD

Maybe she's announcing her presence (and gender) to ensure that no one has a problem with her playing. It does happen - sometimes the presence of a gamer who is a woman offsets banter or existing camaraderie, makes people uncomfortable, etc., so she may be attempting to be courteous.

Having not been there for the scenario you described, I'm only guessing and posing something to consider. Image IPB

I'm pretty indifferent about the term, but I find it rather disingenuous to complain about women who identify themselves as women for whatever reason – you are, by de facto, doing the same thing by your anti-gamer girl stance.

But to each his or her own - more power to anyone who wants to embrace whatever identity they choose.

People are allowed to identify as whatever pleases them. I only find the term "gamer girl" offensive if it is used as a derogatory term.
