I don't mean to burst any bubbles here, but Shepard has been gone and presumed dead for two years. Who says Ashley has remained chaste during that time? Is she a nun? For all we know she could have gotten married. Two years is a long time and grunts do tend to blow of steam with physical diversions. How many women would wait for a man to return from the dead for a few years before they began dating again? That just isn't reasonable or fair to Ashley.

Liara is an Asari and her people take a longer view. They live for a thousand years or so and they can afford to take it slow and easy. That may even be why Liara was reunited with Shepard in DLC for the romance to continue. She was preoccupied with finding the Shadow Broker and therefore never had time to get involved with another person.

I romanced Ashley in ME and looked forward to being re-united with her in ME2. It didn't happen. I also don't remember any long talks with her so that she could explain her situation to me either. Therefore, I really wouldn't worry too much about who did what until we know what the score is in ME3.

You may find that your old flame is now someone else's and your "cheating" doesn't really matter because you can't cheat on someone you are not in a relationship with any longer.

"It's been two years"

I don't know if it counted as cheating, but I flirted with Miranda a bit up until the point where you're talking about admiring her looks ("you looked at me for two years, I can't admire your body?"), but then I later said "We can't do this. The mission comes first" and never finished the relationship.

I also continued my previous relationship with Liara after completing Lair of the Shadow Broker.

I hope it doesn't count as cheating. I'm not doing another playthrough again.

Okay in all seriousness I wouldn't say ANYTHING because I wouldn't have to because my main canon Shepard has eyes for Ashley and only Ashley. Every other woman in the galaxy might as well be Medusa, because Cheesenips Shepard wouldn't look at them twice.

That said a 'non-canon' Shepard DID make the transition from Ashley to Jack, so he'd probably have to justify thinking the relationship was over and falling in love with the tragic, beautiful but fearsome Subject Zero. If nothing else though, he wouldn't have a hard time with Ash for her reaction on Horizon.

Ashley will call me weird for doing it with an alien (Tali) and I'll have an awkward time and I'll probably tell her how it was fricken two years and how she kind of dumped me on Horizon but I'm ready to get back together with her (then awkward time with Tali who I do not want to make upset  )
