I'm starting a ME1 playthrough as a soldier. Now the bonus talents that are available to me are Electronics and Decryption. Which would be the better for the Soldier?

Decryption...because Electronic is a defensive stat and soldiers in ME1 already have enough defense.
Decryption is hacking, with it you won't be forced to have a Tech character with you all the time.

If you are going to spend points in the bonus talent, then I recommend Decryption. You can then invest in Liara's Electronics talent. This will cover all your unlocking needs, and allows for greater flexibility with your third squadmate, such as bringing Ashley a two-Soldier team.

If you want to be a walking tank by yourself, choose electronics. My soldier in ME1 has that and ALL stats maxed out, except for First Aid and Shotgun, oh and pistol only has six points.
But, if you want to have the ultimate team, you have decryption, that way you don't need a tech expert. Ashley and Wrex or Liara and Wrex, and you truly are better than anything in the game, even a Tresher Maul.

Electronics is way better, it gives you shields, and you can just bring Garrus for decryption. Electronics does double duty. Lets you have a nice tech power, and also gives you fat shields.

I would and have gone for Electronics. It's not really needed, but as a soldier you have the points and it gives you a passive bonus. The only real advantage I see in having Decryption is that you get to bring Liara instead of a tech character, but then you have to have her spend points on tech when I'd rather spend it on biotics. And I don't at all mind bringing a tech character anyway.

Thanks guys for your recommendations. Whatever I choose is gonna wind up being my canon Shepard this round. When I import him into ME2 I'm thinking of either choosing Vanguard or Sentinel as my class in ME2 seeing that outside of the Soldier these two seem to be the natural evolution to the soldier.
