 Hi everyone:

Obviously when facing a hacker threat we can’t talk fully about every detail, since as I’m sure you can appreciate we don’t want to give them any advantage, but I can certainly clear up a couple of the common questions I’m seeing here.

(a) Was my credit card/CD key exposed?
As previously stated, there was no credit card information on the servers in question whatsoever… so we’re good there.  We also have conclusive evidence of which specific legacy account fields were potentially exposed:  username, password, email address, date of birth, and country of origin.  No CD keys, and again no financial info.

(B) Should I be worried that I *didn’t* get an email from Bioware?
We have conclusive evidence as to which account records were potentially exposed… so as a safety precaution all  of those folks were notified.  If you were not notified it’s because we have no evidence to suggest your account fields were exposed.  Having said that, it’s always a good idea to ensure you change your passwords on a regular basis, and given all the hacking activity currently it might be worth considering even if you weren’t notified.

© What’s happened to the legacy forums,  postings etc?
We turned off public-facing access to the legacy forums for reasons of safety and expediency but are currently working on a plan to bring them back in a way that ensures your information remains safe.  Look for more information on this in the near future as our plans develop.

(d) I still have questions?
As I said at the beginning we can’t publicly discuss everything we might like to, so if you still have specific questions or issues please directly contact Customer Service at 1-877-357-6007 and they will do everything in their power to help you out.

Hopefully the above clears up some of your questions/concerns.  As I said in my initial post BioWare takes cyber-attacks and threats to your information very very seriously.  We had to move quickly, and we appreciate your patience while we deal with this specific situation.

"No CD keys" This was the only thing worrying me, Thank you for putting my mind at rest. As for the other info, I'm sure they could find it here and there all over the net. And thank you for letting us know so quickly to take precautions.

That's great to hear. Does that apply to guild forums as well? We're very keen to recover the thousands of posts over 8 years on the Bastions of War guild forum.

I'm just glad I'll be getting access to my CD Keys back! That's the main thing that has me worried, that the old forums might remain offline for good. I kinda rely on the old site for storage of my keys. Thanks, Bioware!

Me too!  Plus when trying to build or do things such as scripting there were years and years worth of advice that could be found there.  In fact, I had no idea until tonight when I tried getting to some of that information that it was even down or had been hacked!

I hope they are able to get it back up soon!

What about multiplayer? Will we still be able to play our game online? It's been a while but if I recall correctly we have to use a login name and password to get to the multiplayer game screen. Can anybody correct me here since I am most likely wrong?

You do need a login and password for playing but it has not been affected. I have been on as DM and player all day today.

And All Of This Happened Just Two Days Before I Decided To Reinstall Both Nwn And Nwn2. Man, Talk About Lousy Timing. I Was Afraid At First It Was Something Intentional, But Now Im Glad To Know Its Not,And It'll Be Just A Matter Of Waiting.

I tried this avenue to find out how to change the password on a legacy account that I use for NWN, which is not associated to my EA account here... it was also registered with an e-mail address I no longer use, so I wouldn't have received any e-mail if one were sent.

Unfortunately, after being on hold for close to 30 mins. (multiple holds while they tried to research this), they told me I should contact BioWare directly... except, I don't see any contact information to do that?

Can someone point me in the right direction to get access to my legacy account and change the password?  If I'm not mistaken, that same username / password used to access the legacy forums is used for multiplayer ... so technically, someone could have access to my NWN multiplayer account from this hack.

Can they actually use your username / password to login to your game account without the CD keys? I assume they are all tied in together.

When can we expect the CD key storage page to be up and running again? Silly me for thinking 'Oh cool I can put my keys here and never have to store them on my PC again.'

"We have emailed those whose accounts may have been compromised and
either disabled their accounts
or reset their EA Account passwords."

Here the reason.

Yeah... I received an e-mail and I don't remember ever registering for a "legacy" account. I don't think I ever signed up for the Bioware forums until I got ME1, and that was to register the game. So I don't think I'd consider that a "legacy" account.

The weird thing is that I got the email today - if I had a legacy account it was probably for Mass Effect 1 registration and DLC - but my EA Account password has not been reset, the account has not been disabled, and I can sign in to EA's sites, my EA account page, the Bioware site etc etc just fine.

So was my information compromised or not?

Or is the email now just going out to everybody?

Aaryn, Like the previous couple of folks, I too just got the email today, tho I have known about the breach since a couple days after it happened (I have good people on my server forum who got an email during the first wave of them). Should I NOW be worried about my own personal info (I am not really worried about the CD Keys as I have the disks/CD keys active....constantly...LOL). I have already had a couple of brushes with ID theft over the past several years, including my own best friend attempting it just before he went to jail for other charges back in the late 80's. The more recent one took place just 5 or 6 yrs ago. Lucky for me, my credit was already shot...ROFL.

Please update those of us getting the more recent version of the letter.
Thank you,
GeldrinHor

I got the email, both my EA AND BSN accounts got locked, but when i go there to change the password, the link has EXPIRED. I've been trying at the password page for quite a number of times now and the email it is supposed to be sending never arrives.
So, as of now, EA has effectively locked me out of my own games

And no, the email doesn not show up in the spam folder, and I'm not going to make an international call to a support line because the email password system isn't working properly.
