The e-mail takes a while to get there. I got it after +/- 1 hour. Mind you, the servers are getting swamped with password requests.mikethor008 wrote...
I got the email, both my EA AND BSN accounts got locked, but when i go there to change the password, the link has EXPIRED. I've been trying at the password page for quite a number of times now and the email it is supposed to be sending never arrives.
So, as of now, EA has effectively locked me out of my own games
And no, the email doesn not show up in the spam folder, and I'm not going to make an international call to a support line because the email password system isn't working properly.

Considering that the original post is from 7 days ago, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks
P.S.: Your e-mail about the breach did look rather suspicious itself (IIRC no @ea.com or @bioware.com address, a rather worrisome (at least for an outsider) Received history; …) and my spam filter diligently put it into the spam folder.

Yeah... I received an e-mail and I don't remember ever registering for a "legacy" account. I don't think I ever signed up for the Bioware forums until I got ME1, and that was to register the game. So I don't think I'd consider that a "legacy" account.
"Legacy site" = anything that predates EA Bioware acquisition and anything that gets registered on social.bioware.com, including NWN, NWN2, Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1 and some other stuff.
(I don't think I've posted anything on this new site yet, and it's been years since I posted anything on the old forums. Hi gang! Anything interesting happened during the n+x years I was gone?

I reckon there should be a little area below the Advertisement Window on the main page, and above Recent Activity page that has the most recent important announcements from BW, and the Moderators on it.
That way you are sure EVERYONE gets to see it without have to specfically go searching.

Can I make the suggestion that this sort of thing be posted somewhere that is a little more prominent than the back end of a sub-forum in a forum at the back end of a list of forums?

I think that would be a great idea, I got the email yesterday and not having seen anything about it on the forums forwarded the email on to Bioware to see if it was legitimate. I know of others who have done nothing about it due to the fact that they thought the email was a phishing scam also. Funnily enough there have been attempts at sites connected with Guild Wars, not only do they have a rather prominant notice of breaches and warnings to change passwords if similar to other sites they also have a big warning on the wiki. Being that Bioware was breached one would think that the notices might be more prominantly placed.

Hopefully Bioware will email us to let us know when they've resolved the CD Key issue... or at least announce it a bit more prominently.

Ya know Gamespy told me almost the same thing. (Gamespy is the host to NWN Multiplayer games) that they "unfortunately no longer has any support. I would suggest contacting the makers of your game for any suggestions".
One of the errors I get is cannot connect to the BioWare Master Server. But, I can't find any support for Bioware. The only thing that pops up is this new store that hasn't a clue about Bioware games and only sells clothes and trinkets. Shame that.
Finally down to who I guess is the publisher: Atari. The EA phone number above will only give you a password change for this Bioware Social forum (a forum is not a game). I'm guessing that EA doesn't know squat about Atari, since they gave me this number for Atari support 1-425-398-3063 and it didn't take me long to have it checked by an Operator, who said it is an invalid number.
Ok, finally I found an Atari support site. www.atari.com/support/atari Over 2 months ago I asked a question here in the forum, no answer, and only a year ago I had two support issues they they marked as resolved which were not and I reopened once but not doing it again. Just don't care to force the issue if certain people don't want to work. But I did add two new support items, so let's see if I get responses.
How can I believe any of these people? Who are they? Bioware, NWN, Atair, EA all seem to pass the buck and say things are getting fixed then slap you in the face with invalid phone numbers and empty promises, or tell you to go ask the other guy.
Oh and guess what, remember the new Neverwinter MMORPG game that Atari handed to Cryptic Studios to put out by 2011? Atari has already divested themselves of Cryptic in May 2011: http://www.atari.com..._20110517_0.pdf I guess we won't be seeing that either.

Yeah. They've been passing the buck with me as well. I told them they are legally obligated to answer our questions. Not only could our CD keys be compromised, but I noticed something else. They have our emails, which I changed the password to my email thankfully, however some people might not worry about that. Which in lies the legal obligation to answer our questions.
To Bioware: We've been waiting patiently, however on edge long enough. Why are you avoiding your customer's questions? You are BY LAW legally obligated to keep us updated. It's almost been four weeks and still more questions than answers, the constant run around with your numbers and tickets with atari whom by the way DOESN'T respond. We want to ensure our gameplay and that our emails, our CD keys which cost us money, and all the rest of our personal information is kept safe.

Ok, I'll bite. First, the obligatory IANAL. Jurisdiction? Statute (would be helpful to quote those)? In the US, the game's EULA and the site EULA constitute contract law. You may wish to review each of those to understand what rights you are actually entitled to.
Is their silence shameful? Absolutely. There's nothing left except to mourn a once great company.

Wasn't directed to you. And I'm not just talking about CD keys. If personal information IS COMPROMISED, by law they are required to let us know WHAT information has been compromised. All I'm seeing is mights and maybes. This goes into more than just contract laws. When personal information such as emails and passwords are compromised, some people don't understand how to protect themselves online. I understand my options because I've investigated by actually getting legal advice, and pretty much, that's what they said. So I'm going to be blunt and honest with you. If you don't have some law degree to flaunt then well, I'm going to trust professionals who do have their degrees.
Here are the grounds we're talking. Some of us have bought things from Bioware's forums specifically. They failed to take reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure our private and sensitive data. Emails, passwords, birthdays, CD keys, and with the actions they performed some of us have lost data that we rightly paid for, not to mention contradicting posts of what is and what isn't. Here it says only SOME, another frankly says that it has or has not. It's enough to file a class action lawsuit which is what the lawyer whom I inquired my options about. Does that mean I am? No. Does that mean others will, possibly. How do I know this? Look at what happened with Sony, and still going on.. Guess what? The Sony Lawsuit is still sticking. They even laid off people due to the lawsuit. That throws the EULA contract out due to what's on the line. They aren't responible for if YOU'RE hacked however if they themselves are... That's a breach on their end which well... Just take a look at Sony. Granted, our credit cards weren't taken, however that still doesn't excuse the fact that people paid money to Bioware for games, mods, etc. online and can't access that information and possibly have that information they paid for on a torrent site somewhere.

The only legislation that I'm aware of that mandates this is HIPPA and I think some more general in California. As a (very tiny) site operator I'm genuinely interested in reading about this.If personal information IS COMPROMISED, by law they are required to let us know WHAT information has been compromised.

Again, they are legally obligated due to the fact it's our personal information they neglected to protect. This is what my legal counsel was telling me due to other things that are factored in. Again, just to reference the Sony lawsuit, not only are they being sued due to the breach of credit card information, but personal as well. And they were a little more vocal than Bioware. If people are going to get the constant run around, they can and probably will take legal action to ensure that their data is secure. Again, does that mean me? Nope. But other people can and probably will.
HIPAA deals mainly with health records which should remain private. However this is not what's being talked about and irrelevant. Websites that ask for personal information are legally obligated to keep us UPDATED on what information was taken and if there are anymore breaches. Not one update, not two, but constant updates as of what information is FOR CERTAIN compromised to ensure that we can protect ourselves. These mights and maybes don't really cut it after almost four weeks which is why Sony is in a world of hurt right now.

I might know the answer...
I recieved the email aswell, but I have a different email address (with different password) connected to EA and Bioware SN.
The email address I used for Biowares old site is an hotmail account.
I tried to log in to that account some time ago and was informed that my account had been closed because they suspected it had been breached. I just needed to change password which (for me) was a pain in the #&%.
