Because clearly, the re-used maps are precisely what he was referring to.

From what I've read, those who were disappointed with the game (myself included) have a few major complaints:

Re-used maps
Combat waves
Poor inventory system
Act 3 is bad

About the only innovative things in DA II are the dialogue wheel and the framed narrative, both of which I thought worked well. Both of which were also, I think, better received by the fanbase than the three problems listed above.

This is just an attempt to downplay failures by saying that the people who were disappointed with DA II just couldn't handle how great it is.

If they fixed those points I would be a lot happier with the game.

People obviously love dead cities, just look at Denerim. Loved it so much in fact they made MODS to make it look somewhat alive!

Except we were not in Denerim throughout most of the game, and throughout a decade.

It was bad, but it was not as bad as Kirkwall. Because we're stuck in it for 7 years.

Kind of sounds like the reason I made my mods...things I felt that were lacking in Origins. Hmm. Good case for a toolset ^_^

I'd add combat to that list. Even though DA2 combat became a bit over the top and had the blasted waves, I still enjoy it. TW2 combat (even more so than the TW1) feels like busywork you need to do in order to proceed the plot.

But I'm sure other opinions differ.

Hmm to me DA:O felt like a filler between story segments. DA2 combat was fun and TW 2 combat was epic for me ( due to the challenge ).

I loved the combat in TW2 once I got the hang of it, I like challenges.  The combat in DA2 was never fun for me I spent way too much time going, ok this isn't strategic or fun anymore, enough with these waves.

I'm just curious and I hope a dev or a DA team member could come forward and give us a list of what these innovations they keep talking about that they introduced in DA2 actually are.

After all, they keep saying the word, they keep saying DA2 innovated, they keep saying that some players didn't like the innovations in DA2, innovate, innovation, innovative.

Well, please, by all means, because I am honestly curious to know WHAT they are. And I would honestly appreciate a Dev member when they have time to come forward and list them. Seriously.

Agree with the bolded parts, yes. There were moments I loved in Act III, but the whole....*Spoiler* at the Gallows....was a letdown. I was actually expecting another Act after the first boss battle which I thought would lead to the end of Act III.

I wanna point out that I have no problem with this post, even though I disagree. Nowhere in here was opinion claimed as "fact" or was the poster insisting that something was wrong with people who disagree.

Exactly.  If you're going to make people spend that much time in one place it better be alive and interactive.  And Denerim was still more alive to me than Kirkwall.  I can still hear the "Dwarven armor, straight from Orzamaar," and
"Magic was made to serve man, not watch over him,".  Kirkwall was dead visually as well as surrounding sounds.

Redcliffe was just as dead. Only place somewhat alive was Orzammar. And I despise Orzammar. (Except for the DN Origin which was LUFF!)

Thing is: Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 are complete different games. They share only the fictive World of Thedas and the Characters nothing else.
Its like Mike Laidlaw said: they made 180 turn and when you make such a turn, the outcome is another genre of game. Were we informed that DA2 would go a complete other directions as DAO did? No, i didnt see any prerelease Interview saying that DA2 would make a 180 degree turn.

And is it really so surprising that a lot of people who preordered DA2 (like me) expected a game like DAO? Dragon Age Origins was the first installment of the Dragon Age Franchise. So i would think this is Dragon Age 1, because if DAO isnt Dragon Age 1, which title was Dragon Age 1, the next title is Dragon Age 2. The second installment of the franchise. Did i expect a game like Origins? Yes, of course i did. I was told that it was about Hawke, no Problem. I was told that Flemeth would appear in DA2, in Fact, she appeared. But i wasnt told that DA2 was turned 180 degree.

Sure its my fault. Nobody said that DA2 would be like Origins, i just assumed it would be. If had enough patience to wait for User reviews after the release, then i wouldnt have bought the DA2. But i was to eager about DA2 (i thought the successor of DAO).

So far there were recently a lot of interviews and posts here in this Forum (like the one of Mike Laidlaw social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/315/index/7475089) where it was said that they would take care of the criticized issues in future installments.

I'm not only aware of the concerns, but I agree that there are aspects of DA II that not only can but must be improved in future installments. And that is precisely our intent.

And in more than one post, developers stated that the next DLC will take care about some of the issues. The upcoming DLC will be improved, not the game, how many people here are just misinterpreting.

So do i give up Dragon Age? No, i wait for the upcoming DLC. The upcoming DLC will show if it has the same criticized issues as DA2 or not.

Just for the records, i love DAO, bought every DLC of DAO, made 10+ playthroughs and started two new playthroughs last month.
DA2, for me its a big disappointment. Do i hate DA2? No, but i cant tell you how much i dislike the direction it went.

Er...no. (And I hated Gorim) Kirkwall had people chatting about the Hero of Ferelden, the Champion, the Qunari, the mages (Tranquil solution etc.) , inviting each other for drinks at the Hanged Man, guards greeting Aveline, sailors chatting up Izzy, elves talking up Merrill etc.

While Denerim didn't even recognise the Hero Of River Dane in my party!

You are not stuck in Redcliffe either and it actually is reponsive to your choice. If you leave it to the undead, you see it's empty and see some people moving in. If not, it has more people.

I loved Orzammar, but I think Vergen is better.

I never leave it to the undead. And two dead places....are better how?

Vergen sure is how Orzammar should have been.

Orzammmar, Denerim, Kirkwall, the Citadel...it doesn't matter. Bioware does bad cities. They have awful physical layouts, they are badly populated and they make no logical sense. You can't poissibly love any of their dead poorly mapped cities.

And that's dead when you compare it to Flotsam. Actually scratch that. It's dead when you compare it to Vizima.
No wait, scratch that. It's dead when you compare it to the bloody outskirts or murky waters.

One is more dead than the other.

And I am not claimign that DA:O did it well. We are just not stuck in Redcliffe.

The best area they did in either game was Ostagar.  You had the mages practicing under the watch of the templars, the archers practicing.  The captian telling his men that darkspawn die like anything else.  The sister preaching.  I remember walking across the bridge after talking to Duncan with all the flags blowing in the wind.  There was stuff going on all around you.

Ostagar was definitely done well, I completely agree. Shame they couldn't follow through on that.

Yea being a propaganda agent is what I do for a living. It pays well.

And I do compare, because as a customer, I have to compare between the products I am buying or potentially buying. If you don't, good for you.

You know I respect your opinion so I really would like to know how these lovely lifeless individuals add life to city?

The NPC characters we could not interact with Origins DID NOT look as bad as those figures above. You have to admit they do look crappy.

Lets not forget about these lovely elves next to the hot elf....

How do these silent 2D creatures add life to the city??

Indeed.
Though the military camp in the prologue in TW2 beats it easily.

And that's why I use texture Mods, my dear. Again, do I think improvements would be neat? Yes. But I'm tired of the extremes.

Want a DEAD enviroment?

"Belief and Betrayal" ........try that game. It's a major Adventure title......or passing as such.

Either DA game is what I said :D

I don't compare TW2 to DA games as far as cities go.  Their mines were darker and more ominous, and their cities were better laid out and more alive, there really isn't much more to say.
