First, I thought, after hours of installing/uninstalling and trying to navigate the ATARI website nightmare, I thought that I'd finally gotten the game and add-ons installed and patched, but when I started the game and clicking the "Options" menu link, I found the interface was missing almost all of it's text.
I then uninstalled again, and after pulling out half my hair, I somehow got lucky and found the link to this website, where I found the thread indicating I might need to install DX 9.0c. But, when I downloaded the directx_Jun_redist.exe, it asks me where I want to install it. I have no idea where this should go. Any ideas?
DX 9.0c redis. is driving me insane!

Just run the installer it should know what to do on it's own.

The installer is what asks me where to install it. It says "Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files".

Yeah, that's confusing. It's not actually asking you where it should be installed, it's asking where you'd like to place the files it will use to install. This can be a temporary location--you don't need to keep it around. Once you have the installation files unpacked, you can click on the "setup" file (or whatever similar name) to actually install.
The installation files come packed so that it's quicker to download, that's all. The actual installation will mostly consist of dll's that go in your system folders--windows will know where they go.

Thank you, MasterChanger. That makes sense. I'll get on it, but first I've got a bigger problem, involving the CPU-Z program, which is freezing/bsoding my computer, but is playing hide and seek with me to uninstall it. Yikes!
