Never played ME1 so I don't really know, but we all know that fun little scene from ME2 when you're the little gimp that could. I know it wasn't very pivotal (I guess you can argue that story wise), but I enjoyed it a little bit. Mainly because it was interesting to see the different ways Joker could die... but anyways.

Would anyone else see something like this again? Maybe there could be a point in time when TIM or another villain actually manages to capture Shepard and someone on his crew has to step up to point and save him.

Yes. Bioware has had the precedent of doing it before (evidenced by your example), and it can provide insight on what's going on on the far other side of the galaxy. The Witcher 2 makes use of this to shape the world, and it was brilliantly implemented, even if I didn't like not having the same skill-sets as your main character.

I don't know, on the one hand it could be fun but on the other hand ME is really Shepard's story and any time you spend as someone else is time spent away from being Shepard (it's not as good for immersion either).

It might be interesting to have some DLC that give you short stories with other characters.  Apparently that wasn't too popular in Dragon Age so it probably wont happen but I think it's a reasonable idea (plus, non-Shepard DLC means that ME3 really is the end and entirety of the end of Shepard's story).

I enjoyed the little Joker mission, but for some reason I didn't enjoy the mech run-n-gun in Arrival.

Overall, I'd prefer to be in control of Shepard as much as possible.

Do you mean mean like the DA:O section when you rescue.. yourself from the tower, it seems pretty awsome, would be nice to have a small part of the game when you can play as a different class.

Not really. I didn't like the joker mission at all.

I would like it, IF you played a hero as unlikely as Joker. Maybe Conrad, maybe even Joker again. But I think it would lose the impact if you controlled another soldier kill-murder-machine.

Possibly, although I hated the fact that if you made one wrong turn you died and had to do the whole thing over (which included 3-4 40 seconds of loading).

Would be cool if for some oddball reason that everyone on your crew goes to save... you and they use themselves as a distraction while Joker sneaks through the enemy base to find Shepard.

That part of ME2 was very well done in my opinion.

I liked it a lot. It felt very sobering actually.
It was the only part in the game where you got the pressure of not being allowed to fail shoved in your face.
It also showed you quite well how overpowering your enemies are when the heroes were away.

Even though timers were lax it still worked very well to amp me up, that's for sure.
Not sure how you could reproduce that experience in ME3 though.

I like that part in KotoR when you get captured and you pick a companion to save the day.

I liked that it really emphasized the difference between Shepard and not-Shepard, essentially. I wouldn't mind seeing the world through the eyes of the powerless for a bit.

I wouldn't mind an Ashley/Kaiden mission sans Shepard. It would be a good opportunity to more fully develop those characters and it could be done as DLC.

Hell yeah! I want to play as a Russian Spetsnaz during the Reapers invasion of Russia, then as the British sniper in London, then as a turian soldier on Palaven, then as a salarian STG,then as a volus mercenary,etc...

And space combat,I want to control the Normandy/Joker.

This.

I think it would be fun if it's a mission like the one we did with Joker, which fits into the story without giving the feelinjg Shepard is expendable.

I consider the Mass Effect trilogy as ''Shepard's Story''. this point made I prefer to stay in control of Shepard and always get her point of view instead of someone else.

keep that for an ''Expanded Universe'' Spin off.

I think BW is planing on doing that with Garrus OP they said he will be a playable character so we will be playing as him for a bit while shep is off doing...whatever he's doing.

I absolutely hate when role playing games do this. I don't even really like being able to take control of other characters in squad based combat (ie. switching to other party members to issue orders in Dragon Age). As far as I'm concerned, when I'm playing Mass Effect, I am Shepard. Controlling another character is really immersion breaking.

They did this in KOTOR and JE. I'm sure we'll see it again. I really would like to see some more missions that develop Shepards character more like in LotSB.

Maybe in some other game, but not for ME3.

I definitely would like to have something like the Joker mission in ME3. As long as it is short and funny. Just imagine a helpless Shepard being saved by Conrad or the "biotic god" from ME2. That particular example might be a little over the top but I think a mission like Joker's would be beneficial to ME3 at the very least.

I think a Conrad mission would be hilarious!  I vote for Conrad to strike the final blow against the Reapers!  That would really suck for the folks who got him killed though...

Actually, I wouldn't mind some ME DLCs that let you play as other characters from the ME games: Conrad Vernor, Captain/Councilman Anderson, Saren, Blasto, Biotic God, Urz...
