I don't feel too strongly about it, so I'd play as either, or a new character.
But if Hawke shows up again, I hope they make him/her more interesting. I found Hawke to be pretty bland, personally.

@Jaldaric - It's a good thing then I got my newphew and neice an E-Book Reader. I'm starting them on the classics.

Nice! I'm not sure they even assign books for reading in schools anymore. Things like Shakespeare, Wurthering Heights, etc. etc.

I've probably have around 300 books or so, mostly fantasy and sci-fi.

An e-reader is a good idea, more kids should have them. My nephew has read maybe 5 books if that in his life, he's 17 now.

Lord only knows why Hawke would be brought back again. A violent retard nobody from a dysfunctional family versus a hero who changed the fate of a nation in every play through.

I would go for the Warden - any one of them, for me the main quest of defeating the Archdemon was a side-effect of unifying the nation which was much more cogent a theme in DAO. There is so much unfinished business. That is what I though a sequel was for (you know the II after the title normally would indicate this), as opposed to an quasi-related Dragon Age:Kirkwall or Dragon Age Chronicles - Hawke type game.

But yeah, Dragon Age:Kirkwall/Hawke Chronicles a.k.a. DA2 did appeal more to a dozen or so folks of the Ritalin generation it would seem. So personally cannot see the Warden returning...

Dragon Age is not about the Warden or even Hawke. Dragon Age is about the world of Thedas. The Warden and Hawke are but players in that world. The world is the centerpiece of Dragon Age.
I want to see more of that world with a different protagonist

What I love is seeing this writer pick on the "Ritalin generation" when he's so off his gourd. classic.

This has been the Bioware position for a long time. This isn't like ME which is Shep's tale. This is about a world and the things that happen in it.

I would expect DA3 wouldn't have the Warden - and really given the dead/not dead problem of the game let alone all the things that could change based on DAA and WH it'd be impossible to create a solid game that makes sense in light of those options.

Unless they retcon or create a story contrivance bringing the Warden back to life making the ultimate sacrifice a hollow choice, the Warden probably can't play any more than a bit part. Do you want the Warden to come back playing only a bit part?

edit: well I suppose if the Warden did the US, they could bring back the Orlesian Warden... and pretend Awakening didn't retcon the US Warden. Or something. Awakening messed things up.

We can't play the warden or any character that can have as many distinct races and backgrounds anymore because the protagonist needs to be voiced. You NewFans won, fully voiced main character and a more Mass Effect experience for Dragon Age. Thanks NewFans!

I'm not a new fan I've been playing Bioware games since 2003 and I would rather have a voiced character than a non voiced

I highly doubt that Bioware made the main character have a voice soley on the opinions and wants of "NewFans", who as you put it, are New and wouldnt have had any feedback to give on Dragon Age: Origins in the first place. Also, remember that you alone arent the judge of whats good and what is not. I'm sure a lot of "OldFans" like the main character being voiced.

As far as getting that voice work done... I dont honestly think that it would be that much of an obsticle. Take a look at Skyrim. Its reported to have around 60 diffrent voice actors vs the 13 or so Bethesda had for Oblivion.

I would really love it if Bioware wouldn't destroy my characters more by trying to force them into a role they very likely wouldn't want, like Awakening.

The Warden talks all the time ... just because you don't hear his voice from the game doesn't mean he doesn't talk. Do you imagine characters in books to be telepathic?????

NewFans aren't 'new' as in new to gaming or new to Bioware. NewFans are fans of the new s***. NewFans like dumbed down, sorry streamlined games. NewFans think the warden was a 'mute'. Most NewFans don't really enjoy books, but they say they do on BSN so they don't sound too stupid.  They are my enemies because it is their streamlined taste and perception that is leading the charge for companies to dumb down games and especially ruin RPG's.

In the large scope of things, gaming really isn't that important and I can go find another hobby. But I happened to enjoy gaming and especially RPG's and NewFans just constantly crap on most of what I found to be really great about RPG's.

NewFans brought us min maps and quest compasses and telepathic journals that know things no character in the game world has ever told us.

The Warden's story is done, Orlaisian Warden story is done, Hawke's story is done, bring on the new protagonist!

With less sarcasm; Dragon Age isn't Mass Effect, it's not about one person's quest to save the universe despite itself. It's about heroes plural not one hero singular. Personally I like the new perspective we get by playing a new PC. Different protagonists enrich the world of Thedas it doesn't detract from it.

That's assuming that most people who say that actually read books. I find that highly doubtful.

You know why Bioware forced every Hawke to the same ending? So that we can keep playing Hawke in future installments. I'm hoping for a new PC but I don't see it going that way.
(This post should be taken as a joke)

Why wouldn't you want the Warden back? They weren't your average Warden, and took a much greater political role than most in the order. Hawke helped to destroy the world (unwittingly), the Warden saved it.

The writers may decide to depict the Warden as a drunk, or a case of post-blight fatigue may set in and he/she turns into a cowering wet sock.
Wouldn't that be funny!
Here people are wishing for the Warden to come back as if this character will be writing it's own story and save the world once again.
Time to wake up! The writers may heed your call just to see the Warden choke in it's own puke in an alley way somewhere! Whatever title they give the new protagonist, be it Hawke the Champion of Kirkwall, Gray Warden Hero of Ferelden, it really doesn't matter.
They could have named the protagonist of DA2 Garrett Cousland, the Mighty Gray Warden, the game would have played out exactly the same in the end.
You want the warden back? Go play Origins and Awakening again.

The warden's story is done, i wouldn't want him back, sure there was a cliffhanger at the end of Witchhunt, but i rather get a quest to find out what actually happened to the warden. I expect Hawke to make a return in DA3 and finish what the started.
