We can't have the Warden guys. Haven't you figured it out yet? The NewFans won. The protagonist must be voice acted. The protagonist must have quite a bit of predetermined personality so that NewFans can feel like their character is more interesting because they don't like to imagine things. RPG has to fast paced now and the game has to get right into the action. NPC's got big GD yellow arrows over their heads FFS.

Yeah. Not in the larger scope of things, these are just games. In the scope of games though I am having a strong adverse reaction to streamlining and the general direction of gaming. There really might come a point where I just don't play new games and have to play old games or no games at all. As it is I buy very few games and tend to replay older ones and it just feels like the streamlining is just getting started.
I hate mini maps too. Also I don't think my character should have GPS and satellite postioning unless I'm playing Commander Shepard or Mike Thorton.
There's way too much voice acting too.

In fact I don't really like the game to show MY character in the dialogues at all really ... Id rather see what the other characters are doing and how the character I am speaking with is reacting.
I like to kind of 'BE' the character when I'm playing and it has always seemed weird to me to show me my (character's) face during a conversation.
Fallout 1 & 2 talking heads style is probably my favorite conversation style of all time. I remember my first playthrough of Fallout and how blown away I was by the conversations ... nothing has impressed me as much since.
I know my tastes are really not in line with the way games are being made now and I understand I'm just griping about the good old days of games on the internet and probably annyoing people here on BSN and I tend to be a bit melodramatic ...
...what? what's going on over there *hears a commotion in the bushes*
...NewFans?
...Get the scattergun Earl I thnk I found breakfast!

You make a really good point Zanallen ... if the protagonist isn't going to have voice over maybe the game should just go into a first person perspective for the conversation.
That's even worse. First Person perspective doesn't solve the dead puppet problem. I don't know about you, but for example, when I talk I use my hands. Just having the computer screen zero in on a face (not even the eyes) is very unrealistic.

The yellow arrows were part of DA:O.
More generally, imagination has nothing to do with it. The Warden had as much of a predetermined personality as any character, unless you think the predetermined input-output of the dialogue didn't involve a fixed tone. In which case, I have a bridge on the moon you might be interested in.

And if they have a new protagonist that has a dialogue wheel and voice, I'm buying it pre-owned, because Bioware's not getting my money.
But if they either have a new protagonist that is silent, or they bring back the Warden, then I will Pre-order the Collectors edition.
Just lettin' you know, Bioware, i think there are a lot of other people out there who agree with me, even it they don't frequent this site...

What if they voice the Warden?
Anyway, Bioware's made it clear VO isn't going anywhere. So you can write off Bioware for the immediate future.

Given their design values, Bioware's clearly given up appealing to the non-VO crowd.

Yes, i know, thats why Bethesda have now officially overtaken Bioware as king of WRPG's in my mind (Bio. been King all the way up until the release of DA2). Beth gets more sales as far as i know anyway (I don't actually know that, if you can show me facts, i'll be grateful).

VGChartz - and the reliability of the website is debatable, but from what I see and hear it's generally within the ballbark of the potential sales number - says (lifetime totals):
5 376 042 for Oblivion for 360/PS3 (no PC figures).
5 096 476 for Fallout 3: New Vegas for 360, PS3 and PC
6 916 200 for Fallout 3 for 360, PS3, PC.
In comparison:
3 044 877 for ME2 for the 360, PS3, PC.
2 729 873 for ME1 for 360, PS3, PC.
3 737 419 for DA:O for 360, PS3, PC
1 390 525 for DA2 for 360, PS3 PC
Obviously we could play one of these is not like the other with DA2, but you can see that DA2 aside, Bestheda has greater sales according to the same methodology.

Thanks for the charts
Also, when i said Beth are now king in my mind, i meant as in who makes the best games and the direction they're going. So Oblivion and Fallout 3 were mad and i absolutely adore both, but i like KoTOR and DAO even more, so Bio. were King from KoTOR to DAO for me (basically the entire time i had been into Bethesda). I like ME but not as much as all the other series'. After DA2, Bioware have gone way down for me, while Bethesda have released F:NV (Obsidion's game, but produced by Beth.) which i thought was even better than F3, and i really like the direction of Skyrim, and i hate the direction of DA and to a lesser degree, ME.
So yeah, Beth are now the king, you lose Bioware.

Not to mention the whole Old God/Morrigan baby storyline... the Avernus storyline.... the Eluvian mirror storyline.... the Nathaniel Howe storyline in DA2..... the Hawke sibling Warden storyline in DA2.... the list goes on and on. No- the Warden's story is far from finished.
The Warden isn't a requirement for any of those storylines, save for the OGB thing which can be easily handwaved away by the warden dying.
Maybe The Warden isn't a requirement, but I still think the Grey Wardens organization, as a whole, still has a big part to play in the world of Thedas.
DA2 already alluded to this fact during the quest to find Nathaniel Howe and when again when Hawke runs into her/his Grey Warden sibling... somthing big is happening within the Grey Wardens' organization and hopefully BioWare will address this in some future installment.

It could be done like an Origins-style thing, but it would ultimately filter out into the same plot, and I doubt this is what people would want.

Guess you're going to be buying the game pre-owned lol. I can say with %100 certainty that you WILL NOT be getting your silent protagonist back. See the link in my sig if you want to know what I think about you folks pining and whining about not getting your silent hero back.
Just get over it, seriously. Either buy the game pre-owned as you said you were going to or dont play the game at all. You have a %0 probability of getting either your Warden or a new silent protag back. The End. Period. End of Story. Move. The. F***. On!!

Aradace, they can't help it. they love it. its just that we are all in denial of our true love for bioware. which reminds me, if I can play as Hawke in DA3, I wonder if the Warden appears in a tragic brief scene of epic sadness and manly tears.
"Denial" isnt just a river in Egypt apparently lol. Secondly, if my warden (Mahariel) makes an appearance in DA3, he's probably going to get his ass handed to him by Hawke when/if he tries to confront him about killing his clan. In fact, Im pretty sure there'd be no contest there lol.

I never say never, but at this point they'd HAVE to bring back to Warden to get me to care. Pity is, I actually like Hawke, but I don't care for DA2 or Thedas any more for that matter.
I suppose you wont be caring then because the only way you'd get your warden back is if they gave him/her a voice. I understand why you feel the way you do. I dont agree with your opinion, but I understand it none the less.

I feel the same. I think DA2 did break the series down on so many levels that have already been stated. I think they will go with Hawke and the story of DA2."The Warden" will be a footnote in history that is so far inlarge better then what they came to shovel us. DA3 is by in far a bargin bin buy for me and at this point I'am not even going to consider spending my money on anymore of it. Why do I come back to this board, was asked to me in a pm and I have said in a far off hope that they can bring back what DAO had and also The Warden. When I see the details of DA3 or any DLC that helps to clear up the path of this game...then I will decide on what to do....at any rate..not looking good for DAO or Warden fans.

I think DA3 needs the Warden back from a storyline standpoint. Like krissyjf said, something BIG is brewing in the Grey Warden organization.
IMO......David will turn the Wardens to a darker shade of GREY. I think they are after power, not as a entire group but certain power mongers in the order. I think "our Warden" was the last of the good line so to speak. I also think they are after "The Warden and the Godchild.......for pure power and I wonder who would help them witht his hell on earth plot....Architect? I think The First and the Architect are after The Warden and Hawke.......they both are gone..who knows. To use the DNA of "The Warden, Hawke and the Godbaby to clone some horride person that will be their rule to power and end. Again......as good as I think that is..David will just go with some person behind a desk that wants to kill people and make the "Fantasy" of a RPG..moot.
