Who is the XO?

Kaidan would be of high enough rank to serve in that role if still living, but other than that it would seem you'd need a new character to replace Pressly. Ashley is not high enough in rank and Miranda and Jacob are civilians, and formerly Cerberus affiliated civilians at that. None of the aliens could serve in that role either, since as aliens, they have no authority over Alliance military personnel and might not know the first thing about operating or commanding a military vessel.

Shepard should be promoted to Captain in my view.

In ME2, Lawson is the XO, although in my headcanon Garrus is behind her for command.
I'd guess since the VS is apparently part of your crew from the beginning, that it'll either be Cmdr Alenko or Lt Williams

Kaidan technically out ranks Shepard, but I see him as the XO. Ash is a LT now, so it would be her as well.

If we have our old crew back from ME2, I'd like to see Kaidan try to pull rank on Shepard. Really.

Seriously, though... I grew kind of attached to Miranda, even playing as FemShep. Paragonning through her friendship talks and taking her to the final confrontation if you aren't keeping the base seriously wins a lot of points for her.

Eh heh heh heh....Kaiden....Out ranking Shepard.....Next you'll say Jacob is a better choice than the two light mechs...
Anyway; assuming you can pick your XO - I have a list.
-----
Infinity#) Zaeed
1#) Garrus
2#) Wrex
3#) Thane
4#) Legion
5#) Mordin
Now I give that list because majority of them (at the end of my pure Paragon runs) proved to me that they were highly intelligent and not very bias. Most of them had the balls to stand up for their right and to learn right from wrong. Most of them lead a team, corporation, or even their entire people - so each of them have experience. Thane is the exception because technically he's a Chaotic Neutral/Good. I consider Thane to be a very good natured person there-fore I think he'd be a good leader even though he's never really "lead" anything.
My favourite characters are Liara/Garrus/Tali (LI)/Wrex/Zaeed/Legion/Mordin -- and I don't care if some of them aren't human; the Alliance bailed on me so this is my ship as far as I'm concerned. They can shove their regulations up their arse. The VS can't be my XO mainly because one is a friggen neo-**** xenophobe with daddy issues and the other is just plain ol annoying on occasion. The two cerberus flunkies are going to be (if possible) booted right out the airlock; though I would boot Miri faster than Jacob only because she sucks off the Illusive Man every chance she got. I'd love for EDI to have her own physical android based body to be my XO but fat chance at that. Annnnnd yeah thats pretty much it.

I'm a femshep player too, and I enjoyed the camaderie you can strike up with her post-loyalty mission. While Garrus is my Shep's bff, Miranda has the practical training, she's cool under fire and I trust her to do the right thing.
As for knuckles cracking?
Maybe.

While your comment was extremely funny, from what I've seen he refers to Garrus as Garrus. And they seem to get along in ME2. He states he doesnt hate Garrus and they have some funny lines they say. I take them everywhere together.LeVaughnX wrote...

Going off the Australian Army model here as it is customary for junior officers to spend time in staff jobs on their way up the ladder. Kaidan has the necessary staff and combat experience to be an effective XO. Certainly he's capable of commanding respect through experience, as Miranda put it.

I know they get a long (strange ain't it?) but you figure since Grunt is still growing; he may eventually begin to think of all Turians as a threat / or just a piece of meat. I mean they did have a hand in screwing his people...>_>...I can see Grunt and Wrex fighting it out for some reason in ME3 too....*Shivers*

Kaidan was promoted to Staff Commander. That outranks Lt. Commander which is Shepard's rank.
EDIT:
Alliance Ranks for Officers:
- 2nd Lieutenant
- 1st Lieutenant
- Staff Lieutenant
- Lieutenant Commander(Shepard)
- Staff Commander(Alenko)
- Captain/Major
- Rear Admiral/General
- Admiral
- Fleet Admiral

Starting to doubt they'll give us the option to choose our XO, if past games are anything to go by.
