I have to agree. Since the creators of the game don't even seem to be in agreement about the spelling why do people have to throw a fit everytime someone spells it differently? Aren't there more important things to worry about?CommanderJessica wrote...
I think it's a bit petty.. there are alternate spellings of every name.
It doesn't particularly matter if someone makes a mistake.
It would be nice if they could standardize the spelling, but at this point it doesn't seem likely.

From what I see in my country it's also the problem of transliteration - first, into cyrillic alphabet: ME1 and 2 have named him Кайдан (Kaidan), Кейдан (Keidan, the most popular name among journalists here), Кайден (Kaidenand Кэйден (errm, Keid'en? Only TIM uses it). Confusing even ingame, and when people try to transliterate it back, nasty things happen.
The same problem with players have no idea how it will be in english is experienced by Zaeed/Zaed/Zaheed/Zaid, Ashley/Ashly/Ashely, Garrus/Gerrus/Garus, Wrex/Rex, Mordin/Modrin, Thane/Tein, Samara/Sammara/Samora. Oh, and localised version has "Грюнт(Grjunt)" because Грунт(Grunt) is a word meaning "ground"
Ooh, bad loc management... BioWare, if you need an awesome new Loc team member, it is what I do. And I don't stand for misspellings nor inconsistent transliteration.
Oh wait, what am I saying, I've applied to the Austin studio twice now and EA's terrible job application site always screws it up.

Would you feel the same way if people who know you pretty well spelled your name incorrectly on a regular basis? Personally, I would see that as a lack of regard. If the devs can't be bothered to spell a character's name correctly in material available to the public, that doesn't bode well for the attention that character is getting from those devs. I don't misspell the names of people or things I think about.
But honestly, it's been done so many times, it's just funny to point out.

The voice actor is the same, they both are whinny asses at time. And the VA has their voices sounding too close to each other. At first I thought it was Carth. In Kaidan's body.Gunderic wrote...

And I spell Orion1836 as F-A-I-L T-R-O-L-L
Normally I'd find posts like "Fail Troll" more alerting than what Orion said.
He is similar to Carth. I wasn't aware this was cause for some kind of spat.

et tu brut?
it wouldn't be that big of a deal if people who use Kaiden weren't the same people claiming that Kaidan is Carth 2.0 and generaly insulting the character without actualy going talking to them long enough to form informed opinion, or generaly being unfavorable towards his character.
and within the game - its Kaidan.they fixed the genesis so that its also Kaidan. pretty sure at this point they have settled on Kaidan as the correct spelling.

It would be an honest mistake since both are legit ways of spelling the name:
Kaiden as a boy's name is a variant of Kaden (Arabic), and the meaning of Kaiden is "companion".
Kaidan as a boy's name is a variant of Kaden (Arabic), and the meaning of Kaidan is "companion".
This reminds me of a girl who spelled her name DANA but pronounced it Donna and was pissed everytime someone called her Dana.
I'm glad to know the origin of Kaidan's name is likely Arabic, since in Japanese "Kaidan" means "stairs." I suppose Sheps can either view him as a companion or as a stepping stone depending on whether they're paragon or renegade.
Hmm. Wonder if that's also the root for Sten's "Kadan" in Dragon Age.

I can understand dislike of people who make those kinds of comments; they are annoying and usually ignorant. But they are also already set on disliking the character.jeweledleah wrote...

That is nice that they fixed it in Gensis. I didn't know that they did that.
Look, all I am trying to say is that misspelling the name isn't something that I would choose to emphasize as the worst thing that people do with regard to character hate. I also don't think that it is fair to automatically assume that someone who spells it wrong is a trolling hater, since, as I said before, the devs themselves misspelled it sometimes..

Phonetically, -en as a spelling for that sound is much more common than -an. Then vs Than, glen vs bran, Ben vs Stan, and so on and so forth.
I never turn on subtitles if I can avoid it, they distract me from the acting. As such, I always spelled it Kaiden, not Kaidan because the people speaking say it that way.
I also don't really care that you care so much. It is such a trivial and irrelevant mistake that my natural empathetic tendencies are taking the night off. I don't care that it pisses you off. I'm almost willing to spell it wrong from now on just because you care so much about a single letter.
In other words, get over it.

Um, maybe because the way that every voice actor or actress that ever speaks his name pronounces it Kaiden?

I haven't particularly cared about this particularly topic for several months, didn't particularly care about in the first place tbh, it was a slow day and I felt like pointing out a small detail that had caught my attention. But I am frankly surprised that if you care so little, you would even bother to post in a half-serious topic to tell me to get over it....when I was never behind it or on it to begin with.
So...since telling you to go f*ck yourself would be unnecessarily blunt, I would suggest that perhaps you should get over yourself?

Well then, I better get on that. I have a female sexual organ to grow, a ton of yoga to do, and some space to make in my house to accomodate your request.
This may take a while...
