Not sure where I should post this thread, but move it if need be.

So anyways, according to http://masseffect.wi...om/wiki/Citadel the Citadel population is 13.2 million excluding keepers. Doesn't that seem a little... low? The Citadel is supposed to be the heart of Citadel Space. It's "The nexus of the galactic community, it acts as its political, cultural, and financial capital, housing the Citadel Council, a powerful, multi-species governing body." Also, the Citadel, being so important, seems like it should be much bigger than it is. The heart of Citadel Space is only 44.7km according to the wikia.

Honestly, before I looked at the population & Citadel size in the wikia I expected the Citadel population to be in the billions and I expected the Citadel to be much larger than it apparently is. I just don't see how a place with a population of only 13.2 million is considerd the heart of Citadel Space. Let's look at it like this. On Earth, present day, the Greater Tokyo Area alone has a population of roughly 35,676,000. In the time Mass Effect takes place, the population is probably much higher than that. Of course, the Greater Tokyo Area's population is only one small portion of all of Earth's population and nothing at all in compairson to the entire galaxy's population in Mass Effect. Now then, that said, why does the Citadel, being such an important place, have such a low population and why is it, being the heart of Citadel Space, so small? Even with the current size of the Citadel, it seems like the population should be much greater.

This has been bothering me ever since I found out the population & size of the Citadel and it probably won't quit bothering me. I love Mass Effect, but this really doesn't make sense to me.

That could explain a drop in population, yes, but nowhere near the numbers I'm talking.

No clue, but I'd assume the civilian casualties weren't massive, relatively speaking. I could be wrong though. Apparently the statistics are from a codex entry. From which ME, I don't know.

Well, I did the math, and...

14 388 000 m2 per Ward, for a total of 71 940 000 m2.¨

So, 14,388 km2 for each Ward and 71,940 km2 for all five Wards. If the population is evenly spaced across the entire station, this implies 183* people for each km2.

*Forgot to take the 0.2 into account in 13 million.

Sorry, you made a mistake: it's 183486/km2. It's about 6-7 times the density of New York, and much more crowded than any place in (our) Earth.

Not sure. Washington D.C's the capital of the USA. But does that mean it has more people living in it than in Los Angeles or New York?
