Hahaha, I will be buying Skyrim for fun but come on now folks, let's not get carried away with ourselves.

Look at Oblivion.

Expect more agonisingly boring and annoyingly repetitive, crap NPC interaction and silly unconvincing insistent-upon-itself writing that makes Stephenie Meyer look like Shakespeare.

Expect awesome archery and horseriding, and NPC faces that look like crumpled plastic bags.

That way, you might be pleasantly surprised, and you definitely won't be too disappointed.

It will hopefully be buckets full of fun, but let's not go into it expecting romances and storylines to be written like they are in some BioWare games.

Have you ever read The Host?

Never read the Twilight series, but The Host was effing brilliant.

I haven't, and I've got to admit to a certain level of reluctance to return to her after what I have read of hers. Perhaps I will put it on the list and give it a go - if it were good it might mitigate the time I wasted the first time around.

The healers name was Ford Derp Waters. Because he was a soul, by nature he was all things good: compasionate, patient, honest, virtuous and full of love. Anxiety was an unusual emotion for .................................................................Ford Derp Waters.

Brilliant as ever Ms Meyer.

Back to Skyrim.
Do we get some Dragon lovin?
My one dissapointment with Witcher2 was no Saskia option, or a Sele, or Phillipa, esp Phillipa and her student. Geralt must have been ill that day. I guess thats four, but I digress.

Are skyrim Dragons just big lizards and all we get is another power in the boss drop? If so then the game better have a decent story to prop up the notion.

It's really good IMO. One of the top ten best novels I've ever read, almost as delightful as A Canticle for Leibowitz, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, the Hainish cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin. Not quite at the level of a GRRM story, but still a good read.

We do know:
  • There are some dragons that can talk
  • Some of these dragons that can talk are involved in quests and they won't necessarily be trying to eat us
  • No partying with dragons
  • No riding dragons

This exactly, but I don't think Oblivion and Fallout: 3 fans really understand what good writing is. I've heard several "Fallout: 3's storyline was very deep and epic, but Fallout: New Vegas was lacking because we couldn't side with the Brotherhood" kind of crap." There was also someone on these boards that said that Fallout: New Vegas butchered the series it made me laugh.

Like you, I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm thinking the romance would be something off of Fable where you dance into romances.

Well, it's hard to do worse than Dragon Age 2 in this regard.

If someone is going to use the system to enable Vernon Roche as LI then hell yea!!!

Seriously though, this in a Bethesda game? Ehhh...not a big fan. Not really bothered by it but seeing my LI being stuck inside a door due to an engine clitch would make me feel kinda awkward.

I've yet to see confirmation yet still from a reliable source.

Look at combat, third person and what have you. It isn't a big leap to assume writing has been vastly improved over Oblivion as well.

You are assuming WAY too much from Bethesda. I agree with the head explosion. Don't get your hopes up this is still the Bethesda that gave us some of the most horrible voice acting and dialogue I have ever seen in an RPG in both Oblivion and Fallout: 3. I just hope the atmosphere and music matches Oblivion because I was pretty much sucked into exploring the copy and paste dungeons because the music was epic. Also, don't confuse combat with storyline. I'll admit that Bethesda has some really good gameplay elements, but they can't write a story at all. I keep saying that they need Obsidian to be writing the storyline for them while they worry about the gameplay.

You can laugh, but there is really no disputing it.

I guess its a matter of opinion, but the vast majority acknowledges the reality Mass Effect has better writing. Because it is a reality.

So...it's a matter of opinion, but there's no disputing it?

Right.

Anyway, contrary to what you claim, my own impression of the general writing critique suggests the direct opposite. But eh.

OT: Friendship and romance? If it's true, it might actually warrant a purchase from me. One of the reasons I could never get into Oblivion was that it was such a cold experience. Some recognition of meaningful human interaction might counterweigh that.
