Mass Effect 2 had vastly superior graphics to the first game which makes me question just how much more horsepower Bioware can push out of the Unreal 3 engine on current generation consoles.

Is there any room left for improvement even?  What areas in terms of visuals have been enhanced for Mass Effect 3?

As far as I am aware ME3 is using a slightly modified version of the ME2 engine which improves lighting and hair tech (ME2 on the PS3 also used this) so it wont be a huge improvement over 2.

The lighting effects, scenery, polygons, etc will all be improved :) But the engine is still going to be Unreal Engine 3. PS3 users get a glimpse of that tech for their ME 2 version since their version utilizes parts of ME 3's engine. For character models, they'll look slightly better than their ME 2 models, but they'll look very similar I imagine.

Graphics definitely look crisper compared to 2 and its only the beta footage that I'm comparing that off.

And ME2 used the same engine as ME1. Huge improvements aren't really up to the engine, but to how the developers balance out quality against optimization.

ME3 looked fantastic in the demos, way better than ME2 in terms of character detalization (FINALLY!), post-effects, and lighting. It's on-par with today's AAA-standards, we don't need more.

My computer makes everything look good so I don't care.

I would hope so, I'm upgrading my graphics card for BF3, so I'd like to get some use out of it from ME3.

the vegetation should be much improved over ME2's as well, given the new tech put in place by EPIC with the last major update - to go with the lighting it should make a massive difference to the natural feel of certain places.

It seems to me that the game looks a good deal better than ME2. I think it might be partly due to the color palette: ME1 often looked too cold, and ME2 often looked too gritty. ME3 seems to have struck an excellent balance, so far.

the graphics have been vastly imporved as have the physics, bioware has worked with the unreal 3 engine for a good 7 years now and they can squeeze alot out of it the main improvement is in the lighting effects which allow for a photorealistic effect which will look amazing on all platforms, yes thats right you PC elitists even those baby things you call consoles with their distinct lack of 35 USB ports.
ME3 is using unreal 3.8 engine, had they waited a year they could have worked with unreal 4 but thats beside the point.

Basicly very little different, just few details. They use very old unreal 3 engine, over year old. Unless they have desided to use more uptodate version in later of this year.

At least if Bioware allowed PC users to get Unreal Engine 3 with Directx 10 support we can get native AA support.

If you compare Shepard screen captures from ME, ME2, and the Beta versions of ME3, you realize that the amount of detail in 3 is far superior.

if you look at anderson in all three games in me3 he no longer looks like a lumpy piece of plastic I'd say thats a step in the right direction

That has nothing to do with the engine though. It's got everything to do with the textures. Andersons got a new facial texture, as I'm sure all of the characters did.

If devs completely dropped the idea that, consoles are good for business, then the PC crowd could enjoy the best graphical experience available.FULLSTOP!

As for, and way off topic,.......ORIGIN can DIAF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take that E/A, oh and you can DIAF as well!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well in regards to that, I'm surprised that ea is letting dice develop bf3 primarily for the pc, and then port it to the consoles. Would be cool if mass effect 3 was like this.

Mass Effect is a series incepted on the X360. It would be disrespect to the core of the series, I guess :) I'm a PC gamer myself.

I hear that in ME3 we will be able to play games on our omnitools; question, will the omnitool graphics card be able to play Crysis?
