And I will cede that I prefer ME1's music. ME2's is okay, but mostly forgettable aside from a few tracks.

BW is completely aware of the fans who were disappointed that the RPG parts of the game got removed. Thus the whole thing with them going and adding it back in for ME3 with improvements.

How are they improving things?

Oh boy the powers now branch into a few more different things. That's my improved RPG elements?

Oh boy i can has scopes for my gun. Thats my improved RPG elements?

Oh boy, side quests are Point A to Point B with little to no exploration. That's my improved RPG elements?

Oh boy, who needs real time experience when we can just have the player automatically level up once after each and every mission. That's my improved RPG elements?

Casey Hudson stated that they're using ME2's mechanics as the model for ME3. There are things that ME2 did right, combat does indeed feel more visceral but do you guys really have to strip everything away and simplify things for the idiots?

Ill agree that he has some points that ME is more RPG-ey. But ME2 is a better game, no doubt. Its not the same type of RPG and if that irks you, well too bad. That doesnt mean that ME is better.

Another hardcore RPG gamer eh? God I wish they would disappear off the face of the planet. And you wonder why they get negatively stereotyped. You're not smarter, or superior just because you play a certain game.

Just b/c the OP is a ME1 fanboy doesn't make him a troll.

@DocLasty Really? That way you're just gonna get a temporary ban. Just ignore this thread if you're in that kind of mood..

Both ME1 and ME2 had their own merits and flaws, now come on, group hug.

Try to get along with anoraks who think RPGs are the only genre worth playing? Pigs would sooner fly.

I liked both games immensely but prefered ME2's combat system. Neither do I miss the erm 'rpg' elements they 'removed' like the god aweful inventory system.

I'm always surprised by the claim ME1 has such wonderfully well-crafted RPG mechanics - do they mean activating Immunity and/or using one or two biotic/tech powers to completely trivalize combat is highly complicated and only the most die-hard rpg fans are able to comprehend something insanely boring like this?

It's quite an achievement for ME1 to be a great game eventhough it has some of the worst gameplay possible. ME2 didn't have the advantage of presenting something entirely new, but gameplay is 10x better than ME1 - no question.

Oh OP, while I agree with you, opening up this can of worms again is not gonna convince anyone.

People who prefer ME2 say: one is less than two
People who prefer ME (1) say: two is less than three (or two is less than one?)

Its just opinions really. I like ME1 better because I enjoy the story, atmosphere, music, and general classic sci-fi look better than i liked those of ME2. However i think that it can be said that ME2 really made the crappy combat enjoyable, to the point where something like pinnacle station could have been infinitely better in ME2. On the other side global cool downs, linear missions, and predictable combat scenarios, bring some of those great combat mechanics down IMO.

That said I've played both games at least 7-8 times each and love them both and really hope that ME3 can take the great combat and better character focus of ME2 and and that to ME1's Music, Atmosphere, Great story that really engages you and fixes the stuff like linear missions and better hiding upcoming battles.

is it really a stretch for people (Like me) to like both games?

Now I play ME1 regularly and Me2 Regularly (Have near 300+hrs logged in Me1 and roughly about the same amount in ME2).

So does that make my opinion clearly superior? No.
I enjoyed both, but gameplay wise I prefer ME2 quite a bit more since I feel BW hit their stride with combat in that game.

And lets not fool anyone here, ME1 is just as much about combat as Me2 is and in that respect I prfer ME2s combat style.

and while i still love ME1 immensely, i also am not going to say it was the best RPG or TPS ever made, because thats just not true, what I like about ME more than anything is the storytelling and the setting.

THus i quite look forward to ME3 especially if their improving on the system introduced ine ME2, the more good the better I say.

Clearly you have not understood the ME1 mechanics properly.
That's because only special people can.
