Mabari. And Carver to some degree. All others have their own goals which they value more than Hawke's and may betray or leave him/her.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about, Carvers one goal in life is to get away from Hawke's "shadow," but as far as staying in the fight, he will stay as much as any of the other characters.

No, I agree about Carver.  Besides Varric, every other character can leave during the final battle... but Carver will always come back.  No matter what your relationship with him was (friendship, rivalry, no change) or which side you choose, he will always turn against his fellow templars or go AWOL from the Grey Wardens to help his sibling.  It's actually very touching.

If he was as loyal to Hawke as Varric then he would leave the Grey Wardens the minute he survived the joining, and he wouldn't leave to be templar in case he wasn't brought to the deep roads, i don't think we should compare the loyalty of a sibling to the loyalty of a friend.

And you think Carver has the magical ability to clear his clouded thoughts and feelings about his elder brother/sister in an instant?
No Carver spent that time away because he was finding his own path outside of his older siblings' shadow. But he does truly love his family.

Varric is definitely the most loyal companion to Hawke, even if you're rivalry with him!

Carver, varric and you're Li. They won't leave you no matter what you do or say. Not sure of bethany I never go rival with her, I like her alot.

I like everyone in DA2, well no not sebastian I think he needs more writing before he becomes meredith without the super-sword. And only had him as friend.. going to have to rival him and see what happen.

It's probably a tie between Anders and Isabela.

I think it depends on your playthrough, but over all I'd say *sibling* or Varric.

See, I think Carver is surprisingly loyal. Even when he joins the Templars, he doesn't hand Hawke over, which surely puts him at risk - if it's found out that he is a Templar, with an apostate for a sister, and he's been guarding his sister (or brother, natch, I always say she because my Hawke is always a she) he's going to be in a lot of trouble.

And considering he keeps this secret, even after you shafted him by leaving him out of the expedition, even though he clearly wants to go. Indeed, from the dialouge at the start of the act, I got the impression that joining it was actually his idea, even if its Hawke that they've heard of.

This is a rather odd question since your companions' "loyalty" will be influenced by your actions, and the way you treat them.  Lol!

I guess all of them have the opportunity to leave you at some point if they disagree with your actions; and/or you haven't built a strong enough relationship (as friends or rivals) with them.

I suppose that the only ones that will stick with you in the end no matter what besides the dog are Varric (he has to, considering he's the narrator), Bethany, and/or Carver (assuming you didn't get your siblings killed one way or another).

All the others (Isabela, Anders, Merrill, Aveline, Fenris, Sebastian) you can kill and/or lose from your party at one point.

So, Varric, Bethany, Carver, and Dog aside...

In my first play through, I would say that the most loyal of them all was Anders.  He was willing to sacrifice everything and everyone in Kirkwall (including himself) except Hawke in order to overthrow the Chantry (to utlimately allow mages a chance at freedom).  And then, he put his own life into her hands.  In the epilogue, Varric states that Anders is the only one that never left the Champion's side afterwards.

Then, I would have to go with Isabela.  She's the type of character that doesn't make real friends easily (actually, it's more that she's afraid to let herself get emotionally close to anyone, always expecting to be hurt of betrayed)...  But once you gain her trust and friendship, she'll stick with you through thick and thin.  She even offered both Anders and I a place on her crew!  Lol!

After that, probably Aveline.  She doesn't always agree with what you do, but always treats your opinions with a great deal of respect, and consideration.  She trusts your judgement, if not your methods, and is a true friend and even sister at heart.

Then there's Merrill...  She's kind of a lost puppy that follows you everywhere without questioning too much what you are doing as long as you take the time to listen to her, and help her with her goals.

Sebastian left me when I refused to exact his vengence on Anders.  But before that, I had him at 100% friendship, and he never really opposed me when I brought him along on my quests.

The LEAST loyal of them all was Fenris though!  Lol!  He kept sabotaging my plans (like when he revealed to Meredith that Émile de Lancet was still alive...  WTF!!!  Shut up you idiot!!!).  And, when I sided with the mage, came back to kill me.

Varric. He'll even help you kill Merrill, his surrogate daughter, if she sides against you during the final battle.

My family was loyal (Bethany, Carver) no max friend or rival required

Same with Varric however, he is loyal to his Champion of Kirlwall story more than anything else. He has to see it through to the end

Even though Aveline can quit on Hawke. I really enjoyed her dialogues throughout the game.

You didn't work Fenris, yes even after been Li he still have a thing for magic, not mages well apart Anders and merril, he see that this 2 people will HURT anyone, so he make it clear he doesn't like them at all and he is not wrong about that. Give him credits! :P

I like fenris, he is either Li or friend and he never leave me or try to kill me, tryed him as rival was a mess I was the one getting angry with myself 99% of the time rofl, I won't do that again.

Exactly.  If you have Fenris at maximum friendship and romance him on top of that; he'll be the one who will be the most loyal to you, and will never leave your side in the end.

That's why I found that the initial question wasn't really objective.  Lol!  It will always depend on how you played the game.

First play through, Fenris kept betraying me during quests, was never happy with anything I said or do, and tried to kill me (so he unfortunately died).

Second play through, he's declaring that he can't bear the thought of living without me, is fighting with me for mages freedom, and is still with me even after I've parted ways with all my other companions.

So Fenris himself isn't loyal or disloyal...  It's how you choose to interact with him that makes it so.

I also think Carver. Even though he resents you at the beginning he respects you and loves ya as only a little bro could ;) I love Carver, he's a great character and excellently written.

The mabari lol

LOL, this is the correct answer.

Seriously though, everybody winds up going their separate ways post-game with the exception of your love interest. However during the game, Varric is definitely the most steadfast. Probably because he is the narrator after all, he can't ditch you. So he's with you through thick and thin (even if he doesn't care for your decisions).

Out of all the love interests however, I gotta go with Fenris. Yes, I'm a raging fangirl who would gladly have his broody babies, but I did go through all the other LIs in my playthroughs. His seemed to be the most solidly steadfast.

Side with Mages: "Hawke, why the hell am I here? Jeebus, I must really love you."

Side with Templars: "Hawke, I always told you mages suck. Wow, I really love you."

Yes, I made that up but honestly that was my impression (friendmance and rivalmance alike).

he never betrayed hawke. he acted alone which is very different, but he never made any pretences about his convictions for mage rights and stuck to them the whole game. he is an increasingly desperate man who is pushed into a corner. none of which is relevant for this thread so i'll shut up on the subject.

but you can still run off into the red glowy sunset with him and he stays by hawkes side - so he qualifys for love interest loyalty as much as any of the others
