I've heard that the new combat discourages the idea of getting into cover and staying there. Enemy AI is going to be more aggressive at routing you out and we've seen the guys with the shields that you have to take on from the side.
I'm worried my infiltrator is going to have very little opportunity to put her trademark sniping into play.
What do you reckon? Is the infiltrator going to be at a disadvantage now?

With tactical cloak you will be able to flank them. If you pay closer attention to the shield, they have a viewing slot which a decent sniper will still be able to shoot through, and gain a headshot. You will also be able to arc an incineration blast around the shield, causing them to flail about and drop the shield. You can use a squadmates power like pull to move the shield to the side so you can shoot them.
No disadvatage.

Ok, for the shield, I guess, but they've said that the AI is going to try to dislodge you from cover more aggressively now so I just worry that I'll find a spot, get a couple of shots and then find my position overrun. Hopefully infiltrators will get at least two weapon slots because I'd hate to be stuck with just a sniper rifle in that position!

sniper and smg, or sniper/assault rifle and you should be set.

Sorry, you're not going to be able to beat ME3 by camping a single position the entire game.

Sniper/shotgun might be worth considering, too. Camp. Snipe. Anybody trying to overrun you gets to say hi to Mister Scimitar.

Well, no, I thought I'd stop for toilet breaks

Don't forget all those new transferability options when coupled with tactical cloak you should be able to reposition yourself MUCH easier than before, and get a new position better suited for sniping. And like mentioned earlier, tactical cloak is the perfect flanking power. It also will be good for lining up shots with things that you have to shoot off, like the armor plates they were talking about.
Cryo Ammo should make managing larger numbers of bad guys easier too.
Do infiltraitors get 2 or 3 weapons? Regardless I think the weapons modding will be good for the infiltrator. Scoped+long barreled assault rifles or expanded mag vipers might make very good main guns. I also agree that I think we'll see more infiltrators using shotguns.

I would imagine it depends on range and how fast you can use cloak and ultimately level design. As long as enemies come from long range there is no problem, but when enemies bump at you from close range, like husks in derelict reaper, then there are more problems and you would have to use close range weapon.
When there are multiple enemies and one or few of them carrying a shield I would first take out those without shield and then work on shield carriers and possibly changing fireing positions.

I am just hoping that there will be enemy snipers this time.

Personally, I hope my infiltrator will stop SCOPING whenever I use Incinerate.

it's very annoying when I'm just trying to burn up a varren and I end up zooming in on it's foot

I don't see what enemy been aggressive has to do sniping.
How ever, if defence becomes too good, so that cover isn't needed, then it will affect all range combat badly.

The frustration caused by this bug (it has to be a bug, right?) is beyond measure. I'm surprised BioWare never got around to fixing this. They definitely need another solution for sniper+incinerate in ME3.Jenaimarre wrote...

As far as sniping, I think it's a little early to say since we've seen so little. Despite that, what we have seen in no way suggest Infiltrators will be at a disadvantage. The level with Anderson had quite a few choice sniping opportunities... and I expect there to be even larger areas in other parts of the game.

There is also the ability for stealth kills meaning the enemy won't automatically know where you are at all times.

As an Infiltrator, how could you possibly be worried for ME3?
They've added:
1. Multi-tiered Level Design- i.e. using ladders and such, you can find your way to high ground [bird's nest anyone?]
2. Stealth into Combat - We see this in the E3 demo where Shepard maneuvers through cover, and then silently dispatches the Cerberus Shock trooper with the omni-blade.

...How about just not entering/staying in aim mode automatically when using powers? When I''m using powers while not in aim mode chances are I'm planning on doing something else, non-aiming related right afterwards. If I'm holding down the aim button just keep it there.

The trick is to keep a safe distance between you and the enemy at all times. In both ME1 and ME2, I found this to be the most effective way of playing an Infiltrator (or a sniper in general). Stay as far away from enemies as possible and pick them out with your sniper rifle. I'm sure this trick will also work in ME3, despite what we've heard.

I'm interested in seeing the new infiltrator power and also how tac cloak evolves. I would also like to see enemy snipers back, maybe with a geth hunter-like cloak.
One evolution of cloak I think would be interesting is one that focuses on cqc, specifically melee. Maybe with the high level of cloak, if you kill an enemy with a melee attack while cloaked and not in the line of sight of another enemy the time resets.
Also, pertaining to modding and infiltrators, maybe a "supressor" attachment that allows an infiltrator to shoot a few additional shots before decloaking.

Team mates in front still and you sniping from the back. The AI may press you more, but they will still have to work at forcing you to move out of cover. I dont think its going to be too much of a concern.
